Review for network video recorder supports

Price was $159.99. 2017-12-30 - my foscam is not listed as one of the compatible cam manufacturers, so it cannot be setup in its native mode. At least with the nvr's current firmware. Checked the amcrest site for updates, but none were found. 2017-12-31 - it does detect my foscam fi9900p as onvif at the correct ip & port 888, but does not let you go any further. Did enter l/p for the cam, but with no luck. Gives you a red light after adding the cam, which seams to mean not setup correctly. 2018-01-02 the foscam did finally setup correctly as onvif. It went green after going through the web interface. Didn't make any changes, it just started working, after i logged on? . 2018-01-03 setup the new amcrest cam(ip3m-1026w) today. All was well, but it never goes as easy as they say it should, problem with changing the password, but it all worked out. 2018-01-10 connected an amcrest 4mega pixel cam(ip4m-1026w) to the nvr. All went well. Did notice that the amcrest cams wireless connections are more stable than the foscam as onvif. All are connected to linksys router. Two cams are set at 760p and one at 1080p. Video streams to multiple devices are smooth from the nvr, but can slow a lot if any of the cams have to send out a second stream else where. 2018-01-11 the browser plugin seems to work in ie for the nvr & cams. Looks like you have to assign a perminate ip to each in the router setup. It asks to install the plugin after entering the ip that first time, then no more. May have something to do with compatibility mode.

PROS
  • I would first like to thank mr cliff hoyer i was having a major situation which ended up being a minor situation for the amcrest support team. Not only did he take the time to walk me step by step on how to solve this matter. But he was very understanding of the product and any and every question i had he was able to walk me through it and make me a happy man. I would highly recommend to anyone searching for a system to use amcrest nvr system great quality and great customer support!
  • For the money this device is fair. I've looked at systems off and on for years and i've basically been waiting for the poe stuff to come of age and get more mainstream and it is finally there so i picked up one of these and a few cameras. I'd already had one of the wireless cameras and was looking to add a couple more and decided to just jump in buying 8 more cameras and this dvr. I've been working with computers and writing software for realtime systems for 30 years as well as working with a variety of network hardware. So i'm not new to this sort of thing. I do think the average consumer could experience a great deal of frustration with the system. I paired this with an 8 port poe switch and i also have a couple access points dropped off my router in both wired and wireless manners and these cameras are tied to the nvr through a mixture of methods with ost of them coming into the poe switch to which i connected this nvr. I have the nvr connected to the vga input on one of my computer monitors and i have a wireless mouse connected to the usb port on the nvr. That all said here are my complaints:. . 1. The nvr will recognize a wireless mouse just fine. But it will not recognize a keyboard that works off the same dongle - or for that matter a logitech kb400 combo keyboard with touch pad. It sees the touch pad action fine. So you are stuck using the mouse to toggle in text one painstaking character at a time. That is pretty horrible, how much more effort would it take to have the system accept keyboard input ? really ? this seems like an awful fundamental oversight and it nags me a bit. . 2. As some others have alluded to if you lose power it causes issues with the system as a whole because when all your junk powers back up (including your router unless it was on a ups) then everything will get new ip addresses - often not the same ones as before. (after all the lease time is pretty meaningless if the device holding the dhcp leases loses power too) this really hoses up the whole system. I finally had enough of that and sat down and put together a list of static addresses outside the dhcp pool my router doles out. I also set the nvr to a static address. Now i expect that to resolve a lot of my network shuffle issues. But the average user might not know where to start on this. And all the dhcp lovers out there are saying this is not the way to go. Well, dhcp while fine and all is not always the best way to go. This does take some time because the software does not handle such changes well. Switching all my cameras over took me one pretty long evening mainly because the software is quite slow. (i have 9 cameras total with 8 of them on the nvr - 6 poe and 3 wifi) the system is pretty quirky on things like password changes. I found that using the pc based amcrest surveillance pro software is the best way to do a lot of things. It also is not without some quirks of its own and system configuration tasks involving network changes seem to be the hard spots for the pc software as well as with the nvr. On the whole the nvr interface not as good as the pc based one. But the nvr seemed to handle the address changes better, for the low price tag it is fair. The nvr interface takes a little getting used to and the whole lack of ability to use a keyboard thing is a huge gripe to me. They could (and should) fix that with a firmware upgrade. It just hard to believe that would not be something done early in the development process. You can better the software developers did not sit around punching in every character with a mouse. I'd be a heck of a lot happier with the system if they would fix this. I do like having it do the recording because i don't like leaving my computer on all the time. I mean that is the main reason for having this. Otherwise you could just have a pc do it all. Some may prefer that. For the price of this box and a disk drive it is still a decent way to get the job of recording done. . Those are really my main gripes with the lack of keyboard support being my biggest one. The nvr interface while a bit quirky is pretty simple and not hard to use. . The nvr also has this little bug in the mouse driven on screen keyboard that i find annoying. You have to click on a shift key on the onscreen keyboard to mouse in upper case characters. Fine. But the big is the first time in you have to click shift 3 times and then after that 3rd click it works fine henceforth. It's a rather small thing but it is just a nuisance - right along with not being able to use a keyboard - which once again astounds me.

CONS
  • This is a review of the nv4108-hs. It is not the same nvr as the nv4108. Online store has chosen not to separate the reviews for these two devices. Even as i preview this review is says: "color 4ch nvr" i have used several brands of nvrs in the past and this one is very similar to the others. I had no problem setting up five different brands of onvif compatible cameras (amcrest, hikvision, foscam, reolink, gw security). It is interesting to note that amcrest is not included as a supported brand so you have to use onvif for their cameras. I was not able to use the "smart search" feature when viewing recorded video and tech support was not able to help solve the issue. Another issue i have is in playback mode. If you only have motion detection enabled and not continuous recording, you have to click on the narrow vertical lines to select an event. You can spread out the time line to increase the width of the events but that is spread around the event that is currently playing so that if you are interested in something several hours away you have to leap frog through the events. It would be nice if you got the closest event to a mouse click. My biggest complaint about this nvr is that this although it claims to support 3840x2160 on the hdmi output i could not get this function to work. Not only did i not get an output on my monitor, but the android app "amcrest view pro" would not display the channel 0 which corresponds to the hdmi output in any other resolution. To this problem amcrest support says:. . "what i'm going to have to do is get with the team and upper management to see if we can test this out. I was saying lower the resolution for the now till we find a solution. I'm going to put your ticket on a hold so it will not close out. Thank you & have a great day. ". . Overall it is a good nvr, but if i hadn't wanted the 4k output i would have purchased the nv2108 and saved $30.
  • I have not yet used the item so i cannot comment on how good/bad job it does but it came with a european 240 volt plug! i need a us 110 volt plug!
  • So i bought this to record and monitor my ip cameras around the house. I have 11 amcrest cameras which are mostly the 4mp dome cameras so when choosing an nvr amcrest was the obvious option. I quickly ran into an issue where i could record all 11 streams but the live view would stutter as soon as i added a few cameras. If i watched one it was fine but multiple feeds seemed to cripple to box. . I called support and spoke with dustin who without asking a single thing about my network confidently told me it was a network issue. I asked how he could possibly know this since he hasn't asked anything about my network. He told me that the cameras use a lot of bandwidth and my network cannot handle this. . At this point i felt it appropriate to explain i run an enterprise grade network at home since i work from home for an it security company and that i could watch the bandwidth per port and found my peak usage of any camera was running at 3. 5mb/sec (3. 5% of the network adapter of the camera) i then explained that even if all cameras ran at this peak rate that i would be using 38. 5mb/sec total which given the nvr has a 100mb/sec interface its not even at 50% capacity. . Again dustin tried saying it was my network and i got the distinct impression that this is simply their go to answer to get people off the phone. He eventually agreed to escalate it to the l2 technician who called me the next day. Again without asking any questions about my network i was told by dylan the level 2 tech that it was a bandwidth problem on my network. Again i reiterated that this couldn't possibly be the case and showed him the bandwidth consumption on my core switch. He still didn't agree until i pointed out that if it was a bandwidth issue then my recordings would be choppy too but they are fine, full res and smooth, it was only the live view. . At this point he began to agree it wasn't my network and went to check with a "subject matter expert" and came back to advise that the nv4116-hs could only actually stream 4 feeds at 30fps at 4mp. I was annoyed and highlighted on the product description where it explicitly states "playback 16-channel 720p/1080p/3mp/4mp/5mp/6mp/8mp/4k ". He advised this was incorrect and would look to have the description updated. . At this point i attempted to at least view 4x 4mp/30fps feeds and it still stuttered with the maximum number of stable feeds i could achieve being 2. His solution was to simply reduce the resolution which he done without asking as if this was an acceptable solution. I then explained i spent extra money to have the high resolution cameras and this was not an acceptable solution so he reverted this change. He then advised that because i was not using an amcrest switch was the reason why i could only get 2 feeds! i asked why this was and he simply replied that is the issuing statement from his dev team. I asked him to reach out to them and clarify why this was as all switches should work if they adhere to the rfc standard. At this point he infuriated me by laughing saying he couldn't ask them because that is their statement. . At this point i gave up with their support and decided to just troubleshoot with myself and found that the plugin they use for the browser is just horrible! it consumes huge amounts of resources and proved to be the bottleneck. I stumbled across the amcrest surveillance pro software and this has resolved all my issues and streams all cameras at full resolution with no issues. . Tl; dr: support are awful and keen to give you any excuse to get you off the phone and say its not their issue. The web browser plugin is terrible (just look on their forums for the complaints) but their surveillance pro software seems to resolve the issues. Why their support team never recommended this in the first place is beyond me.

Amcrest ProHD Outdoor 4-Megapixel PoE Vandal Dome IP Security Camera - IP67 Weatherproof, MicroSD Storage, IK10 Vandal-Proof, 4MP 2688 TVL , IP4M-1028E Black

I've been testing this camera with a "amcrest nv2108e 8-channel poe nvr" to see what the capabilities are. So far, it's been great. The nvr is a bit wonky, but this camera works perfectly. Literally plug it in to the nvr and it magically shows up. No configurations needed. You will spend significantly more time mounting the camera and running the ethernet than getting it configured and set up. . I have also ordered the 2mp version of this camera and i am waiting for it to be delivered. Once i get the 2mp version in, i'll add a comparison to this review. . But, this camera seems to be great. The quality is outstanding and the night vision mode works really, really well. I haven't tested it fully at night yet, but during the day it is more than capable of capturing enough detail to identify people and read license plates within 50 - 100 ft. You could probably see details even father, but my front porch has a relatively short sight distance. . Depending on how the 2mp cameras compare, i will almost definitely buy more of these cameras. . One last note, the cameras seem to use approximately 500 mb / hour / megapixel. In other words, this 4 mp camera will use about 2 gb of data per hour when recording full time. If you set the camera to 'motion' it will probably use a lot less data depending on how much motion the camera sees. Obviously very high traffic areas are going to record non-stop.

Amcrest Outdoor 4 Megapixel Vandal Security (ip4m 1028eb) FAQ.

Great image quality, poe works great, hiding the cables in a stucco or concrete wall is gonna be difficult and $ you are going to need a big drill bit and they are not cheap. Has been installed for 3 months working great 0 problems so far! the angle of the image may took you a few minutes to set up but once you tighten the screws not even hurricane irma move it. Easy to set up, have blue iris running 24//4 recording on 5 other cameras. On the down side not really a good camera for passing traffic as licence plates are quite hard to distinguish -Notice from R. Hakala, Enfield

- Y. BroylesWhat can i say. Wow. The picture is amazing. The quality is outstanding. The field of view is huge at 128 degree. It covers the entire problem area of our property. I can practically see every blade of grass in the yard. For just over $100 i can't believe the quality of this picture. . Easy setup. Quick and painlessly connected into my blue iris system. I believe amcrest is going to become my staple for cameras. Quality, price, ease and reliability.

The amcrest prohd outdoor camera has a lot of features, and very good video resolution. Paired with a netgear poe switch, these cameras have been rock solid for security. The video stream is highly configurable as well, and you can tweak just about everything to your taste including the video bit-rate, resolution, and brightness settings. This camera is a big improvement over the older generation foscams at about the same price. . I particularly like amcrest providing a 12v input on this poe camera so that you can hook up this camera temporarily to test the location, before running an ethernet cable with poe to the final location. . Only feedback i have is that i would like to see an outdoor amcrest 4mp camera model with a wider lens - 140 degree field of view, similar to some of their indoor cameras. Of course, this should be a lens option, as not all camera locations need such a wide field of view.

Amcrest nvr nv216 an upgrade from previous nvr nv4108 it can handle up to 16 cameras my old one could only handle 8. Very easy to setup just started places hard drive in, hooked it up and followed setup screen up and running in minutes. Cameras can be viewed at higher resolution with this nvr. Took off one point because it is slower to view recordings on mobile phone, not sure if it s the wifi or the nvr.

Installed the 4 gb hard drive i bought and went through a few pages of startup then had to set it aside. So far so good. Unit picked up all 13 cameras on my network. Startup manual says to use a maximum 4 gb hdd. I nearly bought a 6 gb so maybe let customers know at order point. I would also have liked to simply pay for unit with drive installed. Manufacturer or re-seller should offer that option. Who needs more to do when a new box arrives anyway. Sell me a finished product not a kit. Didnthose as a kid. Hopefully when fall yard work is caught up i can finish setup and add more.

Not too bad to set up. The interface is fairly easy and their is pretty good documentation online, but you will probably have to refer to it - got it working after a few hours of tinkering.

- S. OpheliaSetup of nvr and cameras was straightforward and easy, i was up and running within hours. Configuring access to my cameras via the network locally and remotely proved difficult for me because i'm not tech savvy, so i had to call amcrest support. Amazingly, i was on the phone with a person in less than a minute! . Jeffery was very helpful and he got me connected and informed about my situation in minutes, thank you! one caveat, however, i was informed that the reason for my connection troubles is that currently network access to the nvr and cameras works only through internet explorer. This is disappointing given that ie is essentially being phased out. Amcrest, i know you know this is a problem and your poor tech support team has to answer this question. I was told by jeffery that amcrest is working to achieve plugin support for the modern browsers in the near future which would be good for everyone, otherwise, my experience with your product has been great.

Tanya, was awesome ! she helped me setup my dvr onto my ethernet network & phone :) super helpful. The amcrest dvr has been very stable for the past 2yrs i've owned the unit with a great user friendly interface . . Thanks amcrest & tanya

Amcrest Nv4116e 1080p Network Recorder (nv4116e hs) FAQ.

I have been using this nvr for a month, have connected 4 cameras to it. Have motion detection for all cameras. Cliff hoyer helped me setting up the motion in two of the cameras and it works fine. Great product. Cameras works fine. Good quality picture. -Notice from K. Rowe, Essex

Works great. The built-in 8 poe ports work fine for up to 8 poe cameras and it also includes the capability of managing 8 additional non-poe cameras. Of course it works best with amcrest cameras, but it also has considerable functionality for managing other onvif cameras.

- E. MaryThe amcrest nv4116e 16ch nvr replaced my amcrest nv4108 8ch nvr that was damaged by a lightning strike to a nearby tree. The lightning energy traveled into the house on the buried telephone/dsl line and damaged almost all of my devices (router, multi port switches, tv's, dvd players, stereo amp, etc. ) that were hard wired with cat 5 cable to the router. The first question i get is did i have surge suppressors? the lightning energy did not come in on the ac power lines so ac surge suppressors would do nothing to prevent it. Devices that were not connected to the dsl line were not damaged. There are lighting protection devices that do work on telephone lines. I did not have one on my lines at that time. . With over 1 year of working with my amcrest 8ch 4108e nvr programming i was able to do almost all of the programming on the 16ch quickly and without any tech support help except for programing my 3 wifi cameras. The 16ch nvr package only includes a nvr quick start guide. No user manual for the 4116e nvr is available at this time. Reference was made to use the 4108e nvr user manual. The 4108e manual is close to the 4116e nvr programming and is a help and good enough to get through everything except how to program wifi cameras. The 4108e has an option in settings to enable wifi. The 4116e does not have this option. I was stumped and could not figure out how to program the wifi cameras. Carlos barletta at amcrest support set up a pc connection with my pc to go into the 16ch nvr program and show me how to program the 3 wifi cameras. Carlos is a excellent tech and instructor and went through the set up process with me and all 3 wifi cameras are now up and running. . A hard disk drive is not included in the amcrest 4116e nvr package and needs to be purchased separately. The 16ch nvr package includes all of the cables and screws needed to install the hard disk drive. There are instructions and videos on how to install the hd drive on both the amcrest support page, youtube and also in the nvr quick start drive. . The 16ch nvr has only 8 poe ports on the back of the nvr. I guess amcrest did not put 16 poe ports on the nvr was to make it have a smaller foot print and the nvr is small. To increase the camera capacity from 8 ports to 16 ports you need a 8 port poe switch. I used the amcrest 8 port poe switch. You need a network cable (cat 5) from the nvr directly to the router and another cable from the 8 port poe switch directly to the router. There is a cable diagram in the amcrest 4/8 port switch user's manual. Set up with the combined nvr and 8 port poe switch was easy once both devices were cabled to the router and working together on the lan network. Cameras connected through the poe switch to the nvr work the same way in the nvr software for camera device search plug and play setup as if the poe camera was plugged directly into the nvr's poe port. Device search through the switch and lan to the nvr just takes a little longer.

I have 4 amcrest poe cameras and i've decided to get an nvr unit. At first i ordered from online store the amcrest nv2108e, an 8 channel system. I added a 2tb hard drive and the setup was very simple. After using this nvr for several days i was noticing and issue with the camera views. While the images were clear and all the cameras were functioning properly there were only 3 views showing up on the 4 camera view. The same was true for the search function when looking at recordings. Calling for technical support was easy and quick and the ts agent bob was very thorough and knowledgeable. After trying a variety of approaches and taking over an hour in the effort he determined that the issue with the unit was a firmware problem and he sent my case to the next level of support. The ts agent at the next level, jono determined the problem was unfixable after spending 2 sessions and over an hour. He sent me sent me an rma number to return the unit for replacement or refund. Michael in the returns department gave it one more try to fix the unit and ultimately proceeded with the rma process. . The refund process was completed in about 5 days when the unit was returned to amcrest and i ordered the amcrest nv4116e 16 channel unit from I needed a bit of help today when setting up my new nvr. I called in for support today and cliff spent over and hour helping me get the nvr, local monitor, my desktop computer an my phone all working together and me knowing how to manage this system. I believe the my problems with this setup was due to that fact that i had the other nvr already setup and cliff helped me to transition from that to my new 16 channel system. . So while i've only had this nv4116e running for just today my review is more a story of amcrest technical support and amcrest customer service. While i have done a lot of investigation into amcrest (and other surveillance equipment brands) one of the main complaints for all of them have been about poor tech support and customer service. I made the educated choice to invest in amcrest for my surveillance equipment i feel that i have had great experience. The technical support has been available for me in my first call every time and the person taking my call is knowledgeable, thorough, courteous and patient. I will add to this review in the future as i have run this nvr for an extended period of time but so far i'm glad that i have chosen amcrest.

WD Purple 4TB Surveillance Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM Class SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD40PURZ

I purchased this drive to go with my new netgear centria n900 dual band gigabit wireless router with 3. 5" storage bay (wndr4700). I have this set up as an internal wireless lan at my home and store all my video and music content on this drive. With the n900 wireless this does for me more than any dvr out there can since i can access it from any device in my house including my desktop. Great combination. My plan is to add in a couple wireless surveillance cameras to the setup in the near future, and i expect it to continue to work just as good for that purpose as it does for my multimedia streaming.

Built for 24/7, always-on, high-definition security systems. With a supported workload rate of up to 180 tb/yr. And support for up to 64 cameras, wd purple drives are optimized for surveillance systems.

Purple Surveillance Hard Disk Drive (Western Digital) FAQ.

So far so good! i bought this to upgrade the existing wd caviar green drive in our laview security camera dvr, since it was only 500gb. That fills up pretty quickly once you add more cameras and max out the video quality. I picked the wd purple drive since it is described as being surveillance-grade and built for 24/7 use. Hopefully it holds up to that and lasts for a while. I have a caviar black in one of our tivos, and another caviar black in my thinkpad laptop. No problems with wd drives so far. -Notice from D. - . HadleyI have been running this hd on our surveillance system for about a month now. So far there have been zero problems or warnings of any drive problems. Accessing the video later is also not a problem. We have 6 1080p cameras and i am topping out at about 15 days before the video starts to overwrite. For us this is a good amount of time to have access and i don't see a reason to go larger. I am happy with this purchase.

We buy these for our surveillance dvrs with 16 hd cameras. Have been using them since they came out and simply love them. Less expensive than the wd black and very reliable! . We have used 1, 2, and 3 tb up to now. Our software does not support the other large sizes. . We have been building computers since 2001 and find that wester digital is the most reliable and dependable hdd out there. Period.

Amcrest Nv4108e Hs 1080p Network Recorder (Surveilance Systems) FAQ.

Purchased this with a dome camera and a few bullet cameras. Setup was pretty easy. Here are a lot of advanced features that i don t know how to use yet. The first thing i noticed is how loud the cooling fan is. It s not ear piercing, but it s noticeable. It was eventually moved to my a/v cabinet but if this will be in a bedroom, it could be bothersome. -Notice from K. Fabian, Ile-de-France

I had an older amcrest 1080p wifi cam and it worked absolutely flawlessly with this nvr. The only worry i have with it is the password criteria. If you input a wrong password 9 times you have to call and get a master password. Simply resetting the unit wont let you back in. Be careful with that. Otherwise it is a plug an play delight. I am amazed it doesn't need rebooting or tweeking with. I also love the amcrest view pro app. This is used on a limited bandwidth system and the remote view works superbly on my iphone and ipad and android tablet.

- L. EmilyI was having difficulty connecting my amcrest nv 4108e via the amcrest application connection issue- dylan russell was an outstanding technician! highly recommend amcrest nvr and cameras.

okay, i purchased this nvr to start building on my home security. I liked the idea of buying the package deals but for what i was wanting to spend currently, they weren't in my price range. I wanted good cameras and since i don't really need 4 or 8 cameras to get setup, why not buy a nvr that can support that and just buy good cameras as i go. So that is what i have done. I paired this nvr with a i feel that for my needs in getting started, it will suffice, i will go to a bigger hd when i feel i need to and once i add more cameras. So i originally purchased a 4mp gw security camera to marry to the nvr but the camera was doa so i sent it back and just got the amcrest: https:// i decided that for the money it seemed like a good option and just figured why not give amcrest camera's a shot. The camera is great i think with excellent resolution! . So after playing with the camera and nvr in my garage for the last week i finally was able to run some cat5e and get the camera mounted to the front of the house like i wanted. Easy peasy doing all this and i had no problem just plugging the camera back into the cat5 and it working. I honestly haven't dug around to much in the nvr settings, i easily setup motion detection and it works great and everytime a car goes by the house i know get a little recording of it and a snapshot of it alerted to me on my phone via the amcrest app. Okay, lets get into the amcrest app. I love it. Simply put i had the camera image on my phone 3 minutes after downloading the app. No i am no networking engineer or anything like that. I know how to login to my router, i know how to reset a router, i know how to book a holiday inn express. So yes that is about as technical savvy as i get and i had no issues getting all this up and running. I like that when i am out and about i will know when someone is approaching my home when i am not there. I can't wait to add some more cameras to monitor the rest of my property and hope to atleast get a camera ordered for the front door in the next few days. All in all i think amcrest has a good product on their hands for the typical consumer and i will be buying their products in the future. *nope i didn't get a discount on this* *amcrest if you see this, i wouldn't say no to a discount*

I've purchased several of these cameras, and cannot say enough nice things about them. . After trying several other brands of cameras; . * i've found that these are amazingly easy to install. * they integrate well into your pc based recording solutions (blue iris for the ease of use, or zoneminder for the much more adventurous). * the picture quality is much better than other cameras with similar specs. (4mp does not mean 4mp. ). . I imagine they integrate with other nvr, nas and cloud solutions as easily. One word of warning if you're using blue iris, a 4mp camera is going to use 1/2 of a physical core of cpu each on any modern cpu.

Amcrest Ultrahd Outdoor 4 Megapixel Security (ip4m 1028ew) FAQ.

Upgraded from ip3m-954ew to the ip4m-1026ew and the improvement is really noticeable. Wider viewing angle, better picture and night mode is better as well. . Connected to a synology surveillance station using onvif and generic onvif and works great. 2688x1520 30 fps. . This camera is larger than the ip3m-954ew, which was a little surprising when i received them. They are not monster size, but a little more noticeable than the old ones. . For the price, you can't go wrong. -Notice from M. Maria, Texas

I've been using these cameras for a while now. I have to say i've had several other brands, but these have the best picture i've seen yet out of any camera i've tried. The camera itself is just as pictured, it is a well-built unit that only has the cord coming out of the base, there is no sound or wireless. I use mine with poe directly from my network switch, and use blue iris to manage their video streams. To set them up i use an older copy of firefox to set the camera parameters, and then after that connect them to my blue iris server. I'm waiting to see how they fare in winter weather, where i live can get very cold so will update this review after another 5 months or so. If i had one suggestion, it would be to move the cord channel in the base so it points downward, not up. Ceiling mounting this is not a concern, but on wall mounting it does seem like it is the wrong way. I've had operational issues with several of the units i've purchased, but i contacted amcrest and they sent replacements quickly. Great customer service!

- . PearsonI bought the 2megapixel camera set with 4 cameras and the dvr and it is ok, but when it comes down to pixels are everything when you are trying to make out a license plate. This camera has great clarity during the day but at night it isn't much better than the 2megapixel camera. I do like the poe system much more, but just beware you need to get an ethernet booster which gives the camera power. I bought all the tools to make my own ethernet cable ends which makes everything clean. If you do decide to make your own cables make sure you buy a tester to make sure you got it right. It is easy to not get a good connection when crimping ends. The software couldn't have been easier to get it to work on my pc, phone or cloud. I do witch amcrest would come out with a zoom or a camera that has a higher range. You can read a plate from about 50 ft with this camera (during the day). I am really happy with the cloud service, but it is kind of expensive considering 2 cameras is about the same price and a security system service.

Have eight other ip cameras, seven poe, one dc powered. All axis cameras. Aside from the axis p-series camera (that cost almost $1k three years ago), this camera outperforms them all. Now, it is amazing how much cmos imagers have improved over the past few years, however this 4mp camera at $100 is on par with current axis cameras three times the cost. Very easy to setup the camera using an amcrest nvr, using the code scan on the camera label via the mobile app. Absolutely will purchase more amcrest cameras. Also impressed with the ir range, able to light up my entire front yard (60 x 50 )

Great. I have learned how to use these cameras painfully. The adjustment screw is ph1 not ph2. I wish it wasn't 2. 4g and the 5g band is much faster. It's pretty cheap. Support isn't the greatest and (currently returning a defective camera and it is a slow process). Overall, plan on spending a lot of time learning how to set these ip cameras up. Also, a nvr is a must. Sending images to cloud is just to demanding on a network and finicky/unreliable for really any brand. A nvr and hard drive are cheaper than cloud based costs. If it lasts a few years i will be satisfied. . Meh

Amcrest Outdoor 4 Megapixel Wireless Security (ip4m 1026w) FAQ.

I recently purchased another amcrest video camera for our new home. We were very pleased with it. So when a friend purchased a new home and decided to not upgrade with a security system from the builder, i recommended this. This one is very nice - very similar to the one i purchased previously. The quality of the video is good. It works well with the android devices. They said it was little bit tedious to set up (one star deduction), but once they got it going, they are pleased. . Note: i'm reviewing this since i purchased it for them on my account. They said 4 stars because of the set up. This was a good purchase and they'd recommend it if you are looking for an inexpensive decent security camera. -Notice from C. Jennifer, Oregon

WD Purple 6TB Surveillance Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM Class SATA 6 Gb/s 128MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD60PURZ

This drive is designed for constant write duty without spinning down. This mainly happens in video recording systems where video is constantly dumped to disk. This comes at a cost of seek and random access times (reading multiple files from various areas at once is slow). If you are looking for backup, media storage, or network storage, look at the wd red drives. They will perform better in those settings, and are significantly cheaper. . The drive is very quiet compared to many other drives. There is no loud clicking noises, or audible spin up sounds. I have some wd red drives next to this system for network storage, and this drive is significantly quieter than those. I also have some seagate nas drives, but they are so loud i can't even use them in a living space. . Anyhow, this is a great drive. It was installed in a generic low cost network video recorder (hisilicon hi3520d) and it runs fine. Most low to middle end dvr/nvr systems use this chip family and the same software, so this should be compatible with them all. The drive has been saving 4x 1080p streams 24/7, and it has done fine so far through 8tb+ of looped writes over the past few weeks. . The drive does run quite hot in a small enclosure, and most nvr systems do not have good ventilation. To fix this, i just bolted a 140mm fan to the top of the recorder after cutting a hole. This keeps the drive running around 30-40c instead of 60-80, as well as provides cooling to the nvrs processor (which was crazy hot and didn't even come with a heat sink). Most nvrs have a dedicated 12v connector for an optional fan, but if they don't you can always get power from the 12v barrel connector or the 4 pin hdd connector.

Capacity:6tb style:new generation surveillance hdd wd purple drives are built for 24/7, always-on, high-definition security systems. With a supported workload rate1 of up to 180 tb/yr. And support for up to 64 cameras, wd purple drives are optimized for surveillance systems. Wd purple surveillance storage also comes with wd's exclusive all frame 4k technology, so you can confidently create a security system tailored to the needs of your business. Using all frame 4k technology, wd purple drives improve ata streaming to help reduce errors, pixilation, and video interruptions that could happen in a video recorder system. 1workload rate is defined as the amount of user data transferred to or from the hard drive. Workload rate is annualized (tb transferred (8760/recorded power-on hours)). Workload rate will vary depending on your hardware and software components and configurations.

Purple Surveillance Hard Disk Drive (Western Digital) FAQ.

This is an oem hard drive, not the retail one. Oem (original equipment manufacturer) is basically a bare bone unit that doesn't come with all the caviar. It doesn't come with the instruction manual, fancy display box, sata cable, and screws. So far, it's working fine in my video recorder system. Will have to wait and see if it will survive the next three years. -Notice from Q. Harrison, Tennessee

If you're doing a dvr system and aren't using purples then plan on replacing the drives more often than you should be. The purples are specifically designed for video systems and i can attest to their performance and handling. I've put in over a dozen systems with them and always am very happy with their performance. The 3tb size is perfect for what i use them for and will continue to be my go to drive in the future. If you're doing gaming or general purpose stay clear, but for surveillance this is the one to have

- . OpheliaI'm using this in my hikvision surveillance system. So far so good. Plugged two of them in and fired up the machine. Set it to initialize them and they've been working ever since. Just what i needed. . Remember, if you are using hard drives for surveillance systems, you will need to get something like this which is specifically designed for constant write access. If you want one for your computer, this isn't needed. Just get a regular one.

I got this to increase my recording capacity for my directv dvr hr44/500 along with the anker usb 3. 0 & esata to sata external hard drive docking station the install was a breeze, just slide the wd purple hard drive into the anker or the docking station of your choosing, connect the esata cable from the anker/docking station to the directv dvr esata port (make sure dvr is turned off by unplugging it), turn on the anker/docking station, then plug in and turn on the directv dvr. You'll see the dvr find then format the new drive and you're all set. If you have any issues after you restart the dvr just press the small red button (reset button) located behind the small door on the front right side of the dvr hr44/500 where the access card slides in. This should fix any issues you may have so try this first before trying any thing else. Now enjoy the extra storage capacity. Why do it this way instead of buying a standard external hard drive? most external hard drives are not designed to run for long periods of time but the wd purple drives are designed to run 24/7 and it also handles video and multiple streams of video better than the standard external hard drives. With recording multiple movies/shows at a time and hours of recording and playback this setup will last a lot longer than the standard external drives. If you read the reviews for external drives that are being used with dvr's you'll find a good many of the bad reviews complain about failures occurring within the first year. After a lot of research for something that was dependable and verified to work with my directv hr44/500 dvr i found this setup on several online forums along with numerous recommendation for the western digital red and purple hard drives. Just keep a couple of thing in mind. First when you press the power off button on your dvr you just put it into standby so recording and guide updates can be done. That's why you need to unplug the dvr or you can run into issues. I do recommend using the reset button after you install and format the drive just to make sure everything is working as it should. Also the internal dvr hard drive can not be seen or used while you have the external drive connected to the dvr. The internal hard drive content does not get deleted when you install an external hard drive. To switch from the external drive to the internal drive you need to unplug the dvr, turn off the external drive, then restart the dvr. Now you can watch whatever you may have on the internal drive. Keep in mind anything you record will record on the internal drive until you switch back to the external drive. This setup is not just an economical alternative for a standard external hard drive but it's far better than any standard esata external hard drive you could buy in this price range. One other tip i learned is the only thing that seems to fail on the docking stations is the power button. Many recommended to unplug the docking station instead of using the power button. I have mine plugged into a battery backup with surge and it also regulates output to a consistent 120 volts so i'm not worried about causing any issues by unplugging and then plugging it back in rather than using the power button. You could use a power strip and turn off the power strip instead of using the power button/switch on your docking station.

Amcrest ProHD Outdoor 4 Megapixel POE Bullet IP Security Camera - IP67 Weatherproof, 4MP 2688 TVL , IP4M-1026E Black

Amcrest products are easily accessed via their app for android. They also have a nvr software package that can be downloaded to use on a windows computer. Both of these things are value added. . The look of the camera is pretty standard, but they do provide the choice of white or black which is very nice. The mounting screw are provided along with a stencile to help you align the installation location. . This camera is slightly wider angle than most, which in my applications is a positive. The edges of the picture are slightly distorted, but this is the property of the lens, not a defect. In my opinion the night vision, clarity and color picture produced by this camera are excellent at this price point.

Amcrest Outdoor Megapixel Bullet Security (ip4m 1026eb) FAQ.

I bought the 2megapixel camera set with 4 cameras and the dvr and it is ok, but when it comes down to pixels are everything when you are trying to make out a license plate. -Notice from K. Linda, Saarland

The amcrest prohd 4 mp poe bullet camera is a rebranded version of a camera manufactured by dahua technology (based in china). Dahua makes some great hardware, but they seem to have little inclination to support their products after they sell them. Amcrest provides that missing support, and also provides a cloud service for people who don't want to hassle with a dvr or computer to save the video. In addition, amcrest provides firmware updates (best of luck getting those from dahua). I have already downloaded and installed one firmware update for this camera. . The web-based interface is well designed overall. Not every feature is documented, but you can figure out most of the important settings on your own fairly quickly. At maximum resolution of 2688 x 1520 pixels, video quality in both daytime and nighttime is excellent (see the attached photos). There's a little distortion along the edges, but for the price i have no complaints. . One thing i do recommend - if you're going to buy this camera (and you'll probably wind up buying more than one), set up a computer running blue iris or security spy to record the video locally for maximum quality. Most dvrs and nvrs will downsample the image, resulting in loss of image quality, while amcrest's cloud service requires a monthly service fee. Bite the bullet and set up your own home video recording computer system, which will also let you monitor your cameras via a smartphone. . My only complaint about this camera is that amcrest ships them with a default 3. 6 mm focal length lens, which results in some "wasted" pixels due to too wide an angle of capture when you're trying to record from a distance. This camera can accept up to a 6 mm lens, and it would be nice if amcrest sold these cameras with an option for higher focal length lenses, or at least sold the lenses with instructions on how to replace them.

- I. CindyThe video quality is good but there are some problems with the hardware and software. The hardware seems like it would be nice, but mine has a screw loose inside it clicking when i shake it, since it's a fixed mount i didn't bother returning it, but that's a ridiculous defect. In the software i'm trying to setup the profiles and it works as expected except the night vision setting doesn't save along with the rest of the options, so the schedule is useless for controlling that. I went looking for a new firmware and there is none available, so it seems no fix for this. Also note this model has no internal sd and no microphone. . -. Edit, i bumped it up to 4 stars from 3 because it's running smoothly and video feed working great. That's the primary goal of the device, so i feel like 3 stars was too little.

amcrest has really been branching out recently and unfortunately some of their newer products have been getting mixed reviews on online store due to uninformed consumers. This prohd line is what i would call a prosumer line of products it s a topshelf consumer product packed full of features normally found on more expensive enterprise equipment. Take some time to do some proper research and you ll be able to understand why some of these cameras are getting undeserved negative reviews. You ll also be able to appreciate the truly awesome products amcrest is putting out. . This camera has a rich feature set including a sony imx322 image sensor, ambarella s2lm chipset, and ip66 weatherproofing (can handle some massive downpours and dust storms but you re not going to want to take it scuba diving. Be sure you use the included ethernet weatherproofing if you re installing it outside! ). . First thing you need to know is that this camera does not include a power adapter to plug in to your wall. This camera is intended to be powered by what s called poe (power over ethernet which i ll explain shortly). There is a socket on the camera to utilize an ac - dc adapter (12v 2a), but you will need to provide your own adapter if you wish to directly power the camera utilizing an ac wall outlet (it is worth noting that the dc power socket on the camera does not include weather-proofing while the ethernet socket does). . This camera is what is called poe which stands for power over ethernet. If you re a little bit tech-savvy and know what you re doing, this makes installing and maintaining a camera network extremely convenient! if you re not tech savvy and you order a standalone poe camera, it s a bit of a recipe for disaster. This is not a plug and play camera. What makes poe convenient is that the power is delivered to the camera through the same cable that carries the network and video signals. This is different from other types of cameras that can require multiple cables. The downside is that the overwhelming majority of consumer networking products do not support poe. What s that mean? it means if you just plug this camera into your home router it s probably not going to work, because it won t be getting any power! . . There are a number of different ways to deliver power to the camera: if you have a poe compatible nvr (network video recorder), a poe compatible network switch added to your network, or a poe compatible router (chances are that router you bought at best buy or the one at&t gave you when they installed your internet is not poe compatible). Alternatively, you can supply power directly to the camera as i described above and then connect it to your network using an ethernet cable to run the video and network feed. Probably the most common option to power a handful of cameras would be to buy what is called a poe injector which will plug in to your wall and then power the ethernet cable to run to the camera. . The camera comes with a quick start guide and there are a number of different options to get the camera up and running, as well as a number of different options to view and access the camera once it s up and running. This is another area where amcrest has been reaping some unfortunate negative reviews. It extremely difficult to make software that attempts to make things easy and automatic for the user because there are some many different variables in the user environment, things don t always go as they should. An advanced user can usually go in and figure out what went wrong and tweak it on their own, while the non-advanced user is left wondering what went wrong it was supposed to work on its own! just remember microsoft s plug and play which computer techs used to refer to as plug and pray because it failed so often! . . Thankfully amcrest has offered multiple ways to set up and access the cameras. I ve never had to use their support because i ve been able to figure stuff out on my own, but i ve read that they have stellar customer support give them a ring if you re having trouble! . . The image quality on these units is stellar. The resolution allows for a truly useful digital zoom on most monitors since the resolution exceeds most consumer monitors. The camera housing itself seems solidly constructed. Nearly every component of the housing is comprised of metal. The articulation arm feels built like a tank. It took me a minute to figure out how to control the yaw loosen the adjustment screw a little extra and you ll be able to crank the yaw around the base with a very satisfying click of each angle before you lock it back in to place. . Overall i am quite pleased with the function and quality of this camera. I can see how some may have run into issues with setup, installation, and maintaining usage, but if you have the know-how, this camera offers excellent quality in a solidly-constructed housing. . I provided an honest and unbiased review of this product and the manufacturer/seller was kind enough to provide me a monetary discount. I strive to stand by the "honest and unbiased" goal. I will always point out what i deem to be negative aspects of the product, and ding stars accordingly. I'm just a regular dude that likes to write and geek out on tech projects.

I originally purchased a ctronics that was on clearance for $50. It worked but it would drop cameras at times for 5-45 min. The phone app was horrible sometimes 5 min before it loaded and buffered. So i bought this amcrest. Wow what a difference. Very easy setup and phone app loads quick. I set it up in like 20 min from pulling out of box and installing harddrive. Only issue was remote view. I didn't read the instructions. I work nights and was unable to view my cameras, but if i was onmy home network it was fine. When i got home i looked at the instructions, well i google the issue and it went to a setup video from amcrest and showed how to setup remote viewing. 10 min later i was golden. Love this recorder. Highly recommend

Easy to setup. The only reason i gave it four instead of a five was the price, which with the hard drive was close to 250. 00. Also this unit doesn't have a alarm.

S. Lisa, Iowa

The nvr and camera is very nice system. I had to contact amcrest customer service to help set up for email notification. Customer service chester did an outstanding job with helping with the setup. Thanks amcrest cs. Great job. Thanks, alan d.

O. Donna, Oxfordshire says

Good quality product. The software is intuitive and easy to use. After a month i could not remember the password to modify the system and the customer service from amcrest helped with a temp password right away. Good customer service. You will need to buy your own hard drive and make sure it is for security or designed for continuous loop. They just work better.

I have a 4mp camera and have been using these cameras for a while in my home. Cameras works great. Live view works perfectly in my computer. Cliff hoyer from amcrest support helped me in setting up my cameras in my nvr and made the motion detection up and running and solved the harddisk issue

. Walsh, District of Columbia says

I got this and paired it to two amcrest ip 1080p wireless cameras. Setup was very easy. It took me about 30 minutes to set up and install a hard drive and have everything running. Lots of options that you can have for recording and access from your phone. Love it so far.

T. Guest, Sutton

I've installed my share of dvr's. This was my first nvr. I can't imagine anything nicer for $99. 00. I regularly paid 3 or 4 times that for dvr's. Purchase a $49 wd purple 1 tb hard drive and you are off to the races. The free amcrest surveillance pro client software is intuitive and easy to get up and running quickly. That's worth $99 bucks right there. The amcrest nvr recognized my reolink cameras without any fuss. The ptz was as easy to configue as the fixed lens cameras. They popped right up without any difficulty and were easily configured for lan and remote viewing. I didn't have to specify they were onvif cameras. The amcrest just recognized them as such. On a side note, i've been very happy with the reolink camera line and owe them a review as well. The included instructional booklet is well written and gives some helpful hints for various scenarios that could pop up. I recommend buying a stand alone poe switch as opposed to the nvr with built in poe. You don't have to do "home running" (individual ethernet cables) back to the nvr that way, and the stand alone poe switches are more robust. Most professional installers opt for the stand alone poe switches. You also get an nvr that is capable of up to 8 cameras for $99, and you buy the poe switch with the amount of ports that you need. Start with 4 and upgrade to 8 later if you like with the same nvr in place. Hats off to amcrest for making an nvr that is flexible with other ip camera brands, nicely packaged and so far a great performer.  amcrest nv4108-hs 4k nvr (8ch 1080p/3mp/4mp/5mp/6mp/8mp) network video recorder - supports up to 8 x 8-megapixel ip cameras 30fps realtime, supports up to 6tb hdd (not included) (no built-in wifi)

U. Alice, North Yorkshire says

Product works great! it took one cal to tech support to set it up. Answered immediately. Evan was a great help, very patient in setting up the cameras, web access and nvr.

G. McCarthy, Nevada

Was able go bring all mt cameras together im one unit. (make sure your cameras are onvif compatible) out of the box had a couple hiccups. Default passord woild not work, irritating but melissa jones at amcrest helped me work them out. I have a lot of miscellaneous ip camera equipment, i have never had a brand be so easy to contact. If you keep it up, i'll continue to buy amcrest.

V. Whiteman, City of Bristol says

It saves me a lot of wiring since it work like a server, good to acceptable ios and android phone 4g lte monitoring, works on win 10 and mac os x. Will require a poe switch to network your poe bullet ip cameras, i use armcrest switch. Connect your nvr to the modem, connect each poe switch to the modem then spread your cameras from there. I use jennov ip bullet cameras, better picture, more compatible, so much cheaper, easy to detect in the network; i mute the volume since i have no mic. I returned the armcrest bullet cameras, it's too slow, mediocre image yet more expensive.

P. Olga, Wirral

Works great. Set up however is a bit tricky instructions should be clear in user manual.

R. Melissa, New Jersey says

Added 5 hikvision ip cameras to this with a 3tb drive. Works flawlessly. Awesome app and web interface. Had it up and running in an hour.

M. Lawrence, Virginia says

i purchased amcrest nv4108 1080p network video recorder to store local recording for my amcrest ip camreas. Amcrest does offer cloud storage but there is a monthly fee if i want to save longer video from more than 1 camera so the most practical choice would be getting a local video recorder. The package includes amcrest nv4108 nvr, usb mouse, network cable, power supply, user manual, and quick start guide cd. For initial setup, a monitor or tv with vga/hdmi port is required. Do note that vga/hdmi cable aren't included in the package. In order to save recording locally, a hard drive is required and should be supplied by the user. The unit is usable without hard drive and the only thing missing is recording. To setup nv4108, i connect network cable, power cable, and my monitor to it. Note that default resolution for nvr is 1280x1024 so make sure monitor/tv in use can display this resolution otherwise there will just be a blank screen. There are poe ports available in the back of nv4108 if you're using poe cameras. For me, i'm using wifi ip cameras so i only need to connect to my network. After booting up, nv4108 have new user setup to walk user through initial settings such as reset password, set ip and time. Etc. After that there will be a screen to setup existing ip cameras and if you own amcrest or foscam ip camera, nv4108 should be able to find them automatically. User can also setup other ip camera supporting onvif standard manually. Please see my video for gui walk-through. To control nv4108, user can either use the on-device buttons or the included mouse. Pros:. - easy setup for amcrest ip camera owners. Nv4108 also supports "amcrest pro view" app for live view/ video playback. - nv4108 supports 8 ip cameras at 1080p/3mp/4mp/5mp resolution. It provides a neat overview screen and user can adjust 1/4/8 cameras per page or a tour mode which works like slide shows. There is osd for each camera to display camera name, time, motion detection, video loss, lock, and record status icons. - camera settings and controls are accessible through nv4108's gui. This saves time as i don't have to manually log into each camera to make adjustments and ptz control. - motion alert notification will be shown on the overview screen as well. Recording, ptz, tour, video push, email, ftp, and buzzer alarm modes are available. Note that motion alert signal is sent from camera, not by nv4108. - once initial setup is done. I can simply login to nv4108 through web browser on pc or app on android/iphone. Nv4108 can be stored inside closet and become hidden. All it needs are network and power connection. - quite operation. I didn't hear much noise except hard drive spinning. There is no fan on the device. Note:. - this unit requires ethernet connection. There is no built-in wifi. - somehow i can only get ie to work with the plugin to log in nv4108. Chrome doesn't respond to it when i tried. I'll try more and report back. - the network port only supports 10/100mb speeds. - the usb port can be connected to external hard drive but it's only used for backup configurations/settings/existing recordings. Nv4108 can't record directly onto external hard drive.

F. Alexia, Bury

I highly recommend amcrest product and their support division is fast and efficient. Spoke to owen lucas who got me running up with my cameras real quick.

C. Guest, Bretagne says

This needs a hard disk installed inside 4tb max if you want to record. An external drive can be used to back up only. The documentation isn't great but tech support is, specifically jared who was very helpful.

E. Rose, Champagne-Ardenne

This review is posted across all the products in this system because this is a system review rather than just one of the pieces. . I purchased the bullet camera, in black, from a deal of the day to see if it would be a good candidate to replace my 7 year old lorex system. I have since purchased one dome (956) and two bullet (943) cameras in white, along with their 4108 nvr. My application is for outdoor use only to monitor my property. I like them enough to replace my 640x480 wireless lorex system that had a dvr and three cameras. Going from 640x480 to 2304x1296 is a gain of about 9x in number of pixels. The colors from amcrest is more saturated and is adjustable but i've left them as they came. . These are the things i don't like about amcrest:. 1. Setting up the cameras is always a lesson in frustration and it may be partly my fault since i keep thinking i need to use the password i want to use instead of the default first. I always start with ethernet configuration but the wifi name never seem to be listed. So i switch back and forth between ethernet and wifi configuration until i get to work with ethernet. 2. Lack of clear documentation sucks. Plain and simple. This leads to most of the things i don't like about the system. 3. The event/motion setup on the android mobile app setup is confusing. The meaning of the icons is not obvious. The "hand" one doesn't seem to do anything. So i just use the pc or mac surveillance pro program or the the nvr setup instead which gives me four mask settings. 4. The interface between platforms isn't in sync. A. There is limited functionality in the mobile app as compared to the programs and nvr interface. B. Rotation of the camera view on the mobile app is a nightmare with its confusing icons. Clear in surveillance pro on the pc. Clear via the nvr interface. Missing on the mac. C. Night vision enable/disable is clear on the app but does not seem to be available in surveillance pro on the pc or mac. It's available on the nvr but is more complicated. D. Main video stream disable/enable is only available on the mobile app. , but for some reason while setting the video stream parameters on the mac, one of my cameras' main video stream was disabled. I only found out that was the problem using the mobile app because i can connected to the camera but get no video on the nvr, which defaults to the main video stream while the mobile app defaults to the substream video and i get video on the app but not the nvr! . E. Because my purpose is for outdoor applications, the motion event blocks are too large. I wish they were smaller. So my threshold setting is low, 1 - 4 most of the time, depending on how close i want to trigger a motion event. 5. On the dome camera, because there is the dome, car or street lights create a streak in the image. Headlights will set off a motion event. 6. On the dome camera, limited angle adjustment vs. The bullet camera. I mounted mine upside down on a horizontal surface so the angle will only give me so much sky because of this limitation. Your mileage may vary depending on how it's mounted. 7. No mobile, 2. 5", hard drive mounting capability in the nvr. 8. Event viewing is a bit clunky across all platforms. Worst via the nvr interface. But i've learned to deal with it. If there are any glitches in the playback, it's in how it was recorded, not the device's fault. Verified it when i extracted the video and played it on the pc. 9. Selecting the camera to view as the main screen during playback on the mobile app can be challenging. Must be the sensitivity of the app. This affects the bottom disappearing menu that doesn't seem to have a clear way to display in landscape mode once it goes away. All i do is turn the phone to portrait to get it back before rotating the phone back to landscape. . No system is perfect but i love my new amcrest system. The one problem i had initially was with the mobile app but it turned out it was caused by the crowded 2. 4 ghz channel my router was using. Whenever i added a camera, the app would only connect to the latest camera. Very frustrating. When i was away, like at work, i couldn't connect up to any cameras. So with a free network analyzer app, i found that in my house channels 1, 6, and 11 were the crowded channels. After setting my router to use channel 3, all my connection issues went away and have been perfect ever since for over a week. . These are the things i love about amcrest:. 1. Storage of recordings the way i want. On microsd or nvr, or both. My number two on the list. 2. Files storage is very efficient. Over ten days with four cameras, it's used 29 gb of space with aggressive motion detection. I have a 160 gb mobile hard drive in the nvr. I won't need to purchase terabyte hard drives for this application. I use mobile hard drives because they are quieter than desktop hard drives. 3. High resolution. Much higher than my lorex cameras. 4. Clear, saturated color picture. 5. Ip67 with all the o-rings and gaskets included. The one for the antenna is to got outside on the male end rather than inside the female end. But i've used it in the female end just fine. I also use silicone tape to make sure everything is water tight. 6. Wide view at 100 degrees, much wider than my old lorex, which was less than 60 degrees, i believe. 7. Ease of mounting. Dome camera came with a template. Bullet camera is all connected as one. 8. Reasonable price. They are about half the price as my old lorex cameras which were prone to disconnection. No disconnections or resets have been required thus far. 9. Cameras can be set up to auto sync for time at an interval of your choosing. Same with the nvr. 10. Cameras can set set up to automatically change for daylight saving. Same with the nvr. 11. Auto-maintenance to reset the the cameras at an interval of your choosing. Same with the nvr. 12. Auto-maintenance to delete files at an interval of your choosing. Same with the nvr. I set mine to delete after 30 days. 13. Customizable almost everything like bit rate and frame rate, video flip, mirror, and rotate, color saturation, night mode auto or off, color or black and white. Hard wire ethernet or wireless. Naming of the channels, though it's a little obscure and one field is local to the application used rather than a global setting. Again, documentation will go a long way in understanding how that actually works. 14. Although playback is a bit clunky, it's much better than my old lorex system which was in list format over multiple pages. This is in a timeline format much like you'd see with the nest but not as easy to select. 15. Not affected by the brightness of the sun. My old lorex camera would go on the fritz just with the sun reflecting off the lawn, with most of the picture showing solid blocks of color, triggering motion events continuously. It was worst with snow on the ground. 16. Solidly built cameras. Feels very high quality. 17. Most importantly, it's reliable. Every morning when i turn on the monitor, there are my four cameras working with synchronized time. . I have a four camera system because i liked the cameras and picture quality so much. With the lorex, three cameras was all i could put up with. Plus, they were expensive. It was a "good enough" system. Now i have a great system that's pleasing to view at a great price point.

I have three wifi outdoor bullet cameras in total and have been using these cameras for a long period. Cameras works great in my nvr, live view works perfectly in my phone app as well from the computer. Cliff hoyer from amcrest support helped me in setting up my cameras in my nvr.

Not sure why the drop down shows this as a 4 channel nvr, it's got 8 channels. Setup was a breeze. I just plugged in the hard drive, connected it to my router, and just looked at the connected devices. I then logged into the nvr using ie. I got everything setup pretty quickly. The ui is a lot more responsive than the hdview 9 channel nvr. Also, the screens actually make sense. Honestly, it being made in china, the internals look almost identical to the hdview. But the embedded ui is 100000x better with the amcrest. . Also, amcrest has a chrome app so you don't have to use ie to login. This is a huge plus because no matter what, i can't download video clips through ie. It just refuses to download and says there's an error. I'm running win 10 and ie in admin mode. With the chrome app, it downloads correctly. This is a great little nvr. I also got confused with the hdd and network lights. They turn on when there's something wrong, not when they're working. I thought this was kind of backwards, but it's ok since i'm not going to be looking at the box as it's hidden away. I really enjoy this nvr!

Have installed multiple different models and this is the best performing yet. . Hard drive installation is straight forward, just remove the screws to open the case, plugin the cable, use the provided screws to mount the hard drive into the case, close it up and you're done, then simply plug it into power and network. . I love this model specifically because i can put this nvr anywhere as long as it has network access. With the integrated poe models, you need to put it wherever the cabling to your camera's terminate so they can plug directly into it. With this model, you plug your cameras into a poe switch on your network and then you can plugin the nvr anywhere else on your network. This makes have a usable dedicated live feed monitor very easy and conveniently placed. . Configuration is simple via the web interface. Make sure you use internet explorer. Can't emphasize this enough, this unit will not play nicely with edge, chrome, firefox, etc. Need to use ie for the web to operate properly.

Almost there. This works perfect and as specified in the product description. . Easy to setup, easy to connect, works as described. But excellent for the price. . What i would have loved to have is dual hdd slot and dual nic connection as backup.

Z. Alma, Wokingham says

The only realistic complaint i have is the native dos like interface. It's not real intuitive but it serves it's purpose (thus far). It works well with it's branded (amcrest) cameras, appears to work fine with my dahua camera but simply won't work with my hikvision (which is apparently not following the onvif standard interface); this will be a pricey throwaway. It would have been nice if there was a manual configuration mechanism in the amcrest software that would permit me to code access but such is life; i'll live with and follow in the future with onvif 2. 4 compatible or better cameras. However, on the bright side, there is a desktop application that permits you to effectively bypass that dos looking native interface. If you have a large investment in cameras already, make sure they are onvif compatible before you invest in this nvr (or make the decision to upgrade to that compatibility. . *edit* the nvr is a specialized computer and the language it uses may not (especially in my case) be clearly understood. I need to correct my statement about not working with my hikvision camera. It does work! it's not perfect but the nvr displays, records motion and performs everything i needed it to do. I can always simply log into the camera directly and "configure" those odd elements if the need arises. I increased this rating from 4 to 5 stars and will not give demerits for that "dos" like interface; the demerit belongs to me for not "thinking" clearly while reading the instructions. For those that use any non-amcrest cameras on their system, if your camera says it's onvif compatible, select that name (onvif) from the manufacturer's list when you manually add the camera; it's easy to miss and that choice registered my camera properly. Thanks. . * update *. After a month of activity, my system is working just fine. It took quite awhile for me to figure out how to "configure" the system to record events only. You can use desktop software to review those events stored on the nvr. You can also export those recordings in either the native format or avi. However, the avi format is very poor quality, at least in my situation. Fortunately, there is a viewer automatically downloaded with that export that will permit native format viewing but any 3rd party (e. G. Police) receiving that file may take exception to or be nervous about launching an unknown executable file; i know i was. . Finally, this product is highly technical and requires quite a lot of patience. If your experience is limited to opening emails and web sites, you may want to consider finding someone to help you set this up.

I had a small problem after i did a factory reset on my android phone with the amcrest pro smart phone app, it would not show the camera outside of my home network. I called amcrest support and spoke with neil roberts, and he had it all fixed up within minutes. Very pleased. Now to add two more cameras.

Best addition to my home amcrest wifi camers! no issues and it has been recording for 7 weeks straight, restarts fine after power outage. Now i need to buy an ups for my nvr and cameras. . The wife uses the hdmi gui and ie and android gui. I did try the windows amcrest application but i prefer the web gui. . I am able to download videos from 7 weeks ago at 1080p with no issues both locally and over the internet. . Setup was easy enough for the wife. She installed a 4tb hard drive and plugged it in to our home network. After that i took over remotely from 3, 000 miles away by first with a remote login to a networked pc at home and using ie browser to login to my home router to get the ip address of the nvr. Then i used the nvr ip to login with the default username/password. After i was connected to the nvr i added our 3-1080p wifi cameras (updated the login info because it defaulted the password that was set by the oem. I also update the internal and external ports (i didn't like the default ports). Setup port forwarding in my modem and then my router. . One note: i had to change the audio that my cameras provided. After that i was able to hear. Don't forget to change the default user name and password for your cameras and nvr. Also the android app is nearly plug and play. Enter the serial number in the app and it will connect via p2p. ( i'm not sure i like the p2p method). . Fyi: the ie11 web gui needs some work if you don't use the default 100% zoom settings in windows. See attached photos. . Comment if you have questions about the web gui

Initial thoughts:. Quickly setup and linked to three amcrest ip2m-842e 1080p bullet cameras and a amcrest ip2m-841. The initial setup was quick and easy; however, the detailed setup can be a bit confusing and the nvr software is not as streamlined in areas related to recording and storage. Nevertheless, we had the hdd in and the three bullet cameras recording within 15 minutes. We're still playing around with the device and will update the review when we have more info. . We used a wd purple 4tb for our hdd which offers great read/write and limited playback buffering. Checkout the bottom of this review for all products that we used with this nvr. . We are very happy with the product and would quickly purchase again if needed. . Notes:. *important* when adding a camera to the nvr and adjusting its configuration, the nvr will not be able to access the config if you are logged into the camera directly via its web gui. This is at least true when you are using the same credentials the nvr is using to login to the camera. -no hard drive included, i liked this as i wanted to install a wd purple anyway. -set the address of your nvr and subsequent cameras statically. . Pros:. -quick and easy setup. -great playback. -easy camera management. . Cons:. -nvr software is a bit clunky in some areas, not as streamlined as standalone amcrest camera software. -the configuration of my initial camera does seem to always save. -alerts are confusing to setup. . Products used in conjunction with nvr:. -wd purple 4tb x1 wd purple 4tb surveillance hard disk drive - 5400 rpm class sata 6 gb/s 64mb cache 3. 5 inch - wd40purx. . -amcrest ip2m-841 prohd 1080p x1 amcrest ip2m-841 prohd 1080p (1920tvl) wifi ip security camera, black. . - amcrest prohd outdoor 1080p poe bullet, ip2m-842e (black) x3 amcrest prohd outdoor 1080p poe bullet ip security camera - ip67 weatherproof, 1080p (1920 tvl), ip2m-842e (black). . *notice: we purchased these items directly. Top network video recorder supports Review

Disadvantage and Critical reviews

M. Patricia, East Sussex says

I have to tell you that i'm very frustrated with this nvr. For me (at least) it was a bit of a struggle getting the nvr on line with three wireless cameras, but now that all appear to be working properly. My current issue is exporting the files so that that can be sent to law enforcement, if need be. . For some reason, the amcrest folks designed this unit so that its native file output is in the dav format rather than including the software to convert the outputs to avi (etc) as other nvr vendors have done. To solve this (self inflicted) problem, amcrest offers a support program called smart view into which one can supposedly load the exported files for conversion. I'm having two problems running this program. . First of all, i can't program the nvr (nor the cameras themselves) to deposit the dav files right on my desktop, even though i have programmed both the cameras and the nvr to direct the files there. Instead, all this information is apparently over-written somehow like this c: users administrator webdownload liverecord. I've tried this many times with the same result. Amcrest is supposedly looking into this right now and today promised me an e-mail reply. . I would appreciate any suggestions. . Secondly, i can't get smart view to work properly in spite of the glib instructions offered in their self-help youtube video. . To me, the file extraction and conversion process is very clumsy, at best.

I've had an amcrest ip2m ptz camera for 2 years now and it produces a really nice image but is glitchy beyond belief. Constantly sending emails for no reason, constantly resetting image adjustments and recording settings back to default while for some reason maintaining email, wifi, and other settings, also won't record to sd. Now for some reason i still ordered this nvr. Not much in the way of competition out there it seems. Anyway, this thing is "decent" but not for it's price. It also won't keep certain settings like motion zones and alike. It does however record manually around the clock so far which is most important to me for now. It also has less options than the camera, like not being able to create certificates for authenticated sessions. The picture on the website doesn't match the model, it seems swapped between this and the nv4108e-hs and this one has no on/off, or any buttons or switches for that matter. Hopefully software shutdown doesn't park the hdd head on the platter when you have to unplug. Supposedly it can handle 8x8 megapixel cameras but video is choppy with 1 1080p and 2 960p cameras so far. Fortunately handles my other 2 onvif cams and controls ptz on them. Playback stability is rough and choppy with even with only one cam up. I'll probably edit this review later and sum things up better and simplify because there's a good sized list of things that i hope can or will be optimised with future firmware.

The firmware version installed on this device does not match the documentation or any of the setup videos. They talk about using p2p it says right on the box "p2p qr" but that is not an option in the network settings. Documentation and videos also reference quickddns, but again that is not an option in the network setting menus. In network settings, they show a url that you can use for rtsp streaming, but when i type it into any of my working rtsp player applications, it does not work. Why claim rtsp streaming if it does not work with vlc, ffmpeg, ipcam android app? is any of this tested at all? the firmware shows the last update is april of 2016, so it seems this device support has been discontinued? the browser plug-in will not install so cannot get it running in chrome. Also, how do you use an android browser? you can't as far as i can tell.

I used to write video surveillance software for a living, so i'm no stranger to these kinds of devices. I needed one for my home security system and already had an amcrest camera that i was happy with so i figured this should be perfect. I couldn't have been more wrong! i wasted several hours trying to get it to connect to the camera but was unable to. (remember, this is an amcrest camera trying to connect to an amcrest recorder; should be easy, right? ) i finally gave up and returned it, but i'm still out the cost of the hard drive i bought for it. . Based on other reviews here, this box seems to be a crap shoot. It either works right away or it doesn't work at all. If you're willing to take a chance, have some time to waste, and have another use for a hard drive if it doesn't work, go for it. As for me, i'll be staying away from amcrest in the future.

We bought this in january 2017 from online store . We have 7 amcrest cameras and one foscam. It was very easy to set up and has served us well until now (11/2/17). A few days ago the message came on screen "no disk. " assuming the disk had failed, i bought another, also a wd purple 2 tb unit. Once that was mounted we continued with the "no disk" message, and the disk is not recognized in the software setup. We are now frustrated because it seems impossible to actually find an amcrest tech support number. On that point alone i would downgrade the unit. We now have two disks that are probably ok, and one dvr that isn't. Sad, because it really seemed about perfect for our needs.

Amcrest systems are a complete waste of money and time. I have spent countless hours rebooting, installing, searching, and dealing with technical support that hardly knows how to turn a computer on. These systems are not plug and play as advertised. If you use the app, the computer connections go out. Navigation of which step to do first is virtually impossible because their representatives all tell you different things. I bought multiple components: nvr4108, 2 amcrest prohd 1080p ip2m-841, 1 outdoor 1080p ip2m-842, and 1 seagate surveillance hdd 4tb after speaking at length to their customer service representative and reading all the reviews for these products. Once you establish one thing and think it's working fine, the system reboots and knocks out all the ip addresses so you have to continuously go back and add your devices. Buyer beware as their support is horrific. They want to access your computer locally or tell you to add other programs that are questionable and could compromise your security. Unless you are an it expert, save your money and buy a system from bestbuy, lowe's, or home depot. I'm out about $580 on this garbage. Wish i had more of these issues during the 30 day return period. Their customer service is less than helpful after than window of time. Tired of wasting my time with inept technical reps while resetting and reinstalling cameras.

Its just bad. The second star is because they have the right idea of what an nvr should do but it just does not work. . Setup:. 4 amcrest 1080p cameras. Connected over a hi-capacity wifi, nvr connected to 100mbps ethernet (cable). . Results:. I can see each camera one by one no problem through a web browser, i can see them all at once on 4 different browser panels at the same time no problem on my mac with safari (only safari). . However this nvr always and i mean always has an issue seeing all 4 cameras at the same time. Not just live view but nothing recorded either. . Maybe its network capacity was weak i said. Went down to 3 cameras. Same still 1-2 camera missing. So i reduced the bandwidth (quality) of the cameras, still same. I reset the cameras, i re-updated firmware of the cameras. (no firmware available for this nvr). No luck. I did all combinations of remove all cameras and re-add. I compared camera configs to see if it was an issue on the camera side. No avail. . Interestingly it would pick up the name of the camera and show as if its connected to it but no video.

+++++ updated review ++++. I initially had a good experience but as i started using i noticed few issues with this one. Especially this one begin such an expensive system. Customer service was aweful. . Cons:. 1. Night vision sucks. 2. Recording simply decides to skips fraction of seconds constantly. 3. When there is a motion, it is recorded in fast forward motion sometimes. . ++++ old review +++. Its packed with nice features. I could've given 5 star but mobile app has eaten one star. System is great and has tons of features to fully customize however you want but app is not that great.

When i received the unit i purchased and installed a 4 tb survalence hdd and then followed the instructions to "upgrade the firmware" which rendered the device a door stop for my application. Had many email conversations with acrest and they insist the would not help me restore the old firmware . Claiming it would break the nvr". . So now i am stuck with a device that is useless ! . . I feel i stepped back into the 1990's with this product. It's not set up to output video via hdmi out of the box, only vga. I don't use any vga cables or devices anymore, so setup was a royal pain. Fortunately, i had an old monitor in my office closet to use, but had to go to the store to buy a cable. Then you can turn it on and see what you're doing to change the settings to hdmi output. The interface is clunky, difficult to use, and visually unappealing. This is a very cheaply made product in every aspect.

Update: modern firefox, edge and google chrome do not work with this unit anymore. Requires to download a plug-in which isn't enabled anymore and therefor doesnt work. Only works with ie original. Latest firmware update did also not fix the issue. Forums aref ull with disenchanted users. Can not recommend anymore. Seems customer service is subpar. Using it with foscam fi8093p outdoor cam and an internal foscam. Needed to play around with settings quite a bit to get it to work, but now it's ok. It does not recognize foscam under the foscam label, instead you have to use the onvif menu. (update. There is one foscam it doesn't work well with which is the fi9803, others actually do show up as both foscam and onviv) unfortunately under onviv or foscam you can only do continuous recording, as it won't recognize motion triggers provided by the camera, which is a major bummer. My motion triggers work as i have the cam set to transfer snapshots and video by motion trigger to a nas via ftp protocol so i can compare. So if you plan to use this with foscam's and use motion trigger i can't recommend it. The amcrest has it's own motion trigger settings, but they do not work well with foscam and even at highest sensitivity miss most of the action. Also setting 'motion trigger' zones is hit or miss, as it doesn't show the actual picture when setting it up. When you record only action activated video, it tends to skip quite a few in the playback. If you plan to run continuous recording loop it works fine, but you need to add a sata hard drive up to 4 gb yourself. (easy to do. Most of the housing is giant empty space). Without hard drive you can still see video and access it via internet. When it comes to internet access with the amcrest app. Update: works well now, but tooks some major tweaking to set firewalls, ports etc. I like the amcrest app, both on iphone and android. Hard to configure for sure, but now working great (using built in ddns. Do not use p2p as that opens your network up for hacking). Tip: use 2mp cams or higher. Especially outdoors 1 mp is not giving you enough resolution in the distance, so it looks fuzzy there. I like the foscam 9900 sooo much better then it's lower resolution cousins. Upgrading to 4 stars. To get 5 stars they would need to be able to read motion triggers from foscam. Should be doable. No?

Horrible product, horrible tech support. After installing this with 5 amcrest wireless cameras, i had nothing but problems and could not get it to work. I could not get all cameras to show up, the message in the space either said "could not connect to the network" or "offline". I set my wireless cameras up using port forwarding and had no problems viewing them on my iphone, ipad & computer when i disconnected the nvr from my network. As soon as i re-connected my nvr to the network, i was not able to view my cameras on my devices. I called their tech support 4 times (acutally 7, because i was disconnected 3 time and each time i had to start over with a new tech). The first issue was the language barrier, difficult if not impossible to understand what they were asking me and telling me what to do. They attempted to change things, but nothing worked. They then blamed my router and/or internet provider. I have a brand new linksys ea 7500 router and a docis 3 cable modem. I did call linksys and had all my settings checked, everything was fine. After 5 days of changing settings, re-installing and attempting to get it to work, i gave up. I just now use my amcrest cameras to record with the built in micro sd card which is working great.

A. Adrienne, Portsmouth says

This product is a great idea in concept. Unfortunately, the execution is fatally flawed. . The idea is to provide an inexpensive universally compatible network video recorder that can record off of network cameras using open standards that make it compatible with a wide variety of network cameras. Unfortunately, amcrest made several fatal mistakes in the implementation of that idea. . 1. While the unit itself supports open standards and allows recording off of a wide variety of networked ip cameras, it does not support open standards when it comes to remotely accessing the unit itself. The unit could have been made to be accessible using open html standards, i. E. A standard web browser (i. E. , google chrome, internet explorer, firefox, etc. ). Instead, they crippled this device by requiring that you access it through a special plug-in that must be downloaded and installed on your standard web browser. There's no technical reason for this requirement. Google allows me to view videos on youtube without any kind of plugin, and other nvr manufacturers don't require a plugin either. . The problem with using a plug-in are two fold. First, installing a chinese made plug-in onto your web-browser exposes your computer to all manner of security risks, including the risk that the chinese plug-in maker has included malware and the risk that someone else may figure out a weakness in the chinese-made plug-in that they can exploit. Second, and more importantly, plugins invariably become of out date as the web browser is updated and they stop working. . That's what happened to all of my second generation foscam equipment, which i can no longer use because the plugins don't work with the latest versions of ie or chrome. Interestingly, amcrest is the successor to foscam, at least in the u. S. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. This is going back! . . 2. There is no way to factory reset this unit. That's right: no reset button. Instead, they have some kind of master password, which you must request from them, in order to reset the unit to factory defaults. That means that amcrest (and anyone else who knows the password or the method of determining the password) has a backdoor password into your system. More importantly, if you lose the password (or if the default password does not work as was the case with me), you cannot access the system until amcrest is open and bothers to respond to your request for the master password, which they'll only give you if you give them a litany of information that would not be required had they just given the unit a reset button.

Major issues :. This thing is a pig to set up. The software is obtuse; it has difficulty recognizing its own cameras, and it does not work and play well with most browsers (firefox is a no-go, edge is a no-go, ie worked for a while but not any more, chrome will work, but only with amcrest's special plug-in). Now, after 5 months, this thing has decided to stop recognizing that there is a hard-drive installed. I verified that the wd 2tb purple is ok in a separate rig. Tried formatting it in both ntfs and ext4, but the nvr still fails to recognize it. . Minor issues :. Nothing comes out of the vga output to my monitor. The power/hdd lights on the front never worked.

I was running blue iris on my pc and wanted to off load the work to dedicated hardware, and thought this might do the trick. Spent several days trying to get features such as motion detection recording and e-mail alerts to work as i had setup with blue iris. What this product lacked was a centralized configuration of connected ip cameras. I had to log in to each camera and set the e-mail alerts and motion detection on the cameras. With blue iris, i setup the e-mail server config once, and then configured the cameras with the blue iris application. When i tested the e-mail alert on each camera, i would get an e-mail, but when i tired triggering the camera with motion, the amcrest would not send e-mails. The web interface for this device was really sluggish, and the overall size of this product is way bigger than what is actually inside the box. It could really be almost 1/3 the size.

E. Kathlene, Bolton

Let me start by saying that i did not use amcrest branded cameras, i have at least one hikvision, foscam, and dahua that i had tried using with this nvr. Allow me to go through the functionality or lack there-of for each. The biggest feature that i was hoping to use was motion detection recording which is the biggest reason i'm disappointed. Other features such as using the amcrest app or viewing it in a browser were either broken or severely hamstrung. The only browser that you can use is internet explorer (not edge, firefox, chrome, or safari). Good luck if you have a mac or iphone, might only work from the nvr's video output depending on the camera. . Hikvision: the nvr detects it on the network and sees that its an onvif camera. You add in the user details and it lists the camera as offline for like 15 minutes, you keep trying stuff, why is it not working then suddenly it's working. This camera is viewable in internet explorer, the nvr video output, and the amcrest app. This is the only camera to have configurable regions for motion detection. I tried configuring regions, sensitivity and thresholds for quite some time but i couldn't really ever tell a difference when it was going to detect motion or not so tuning was a pain. I eventually got it to work fairly well for daytime detection but nighttime basically needed totally separate settings because it detected so much movement from anything that would reflect infrared like dust. As a note, zoneminder which is what i was trying to replace did not have this issue. . Foscam c1: the nvr detects it on the network and sees that its a foscam branded camera. You add in the user details and it list the camera as offline, never going online. You have to switch the config setting from "foscam" to "onvif" and change the port to the onvif port then it'll be able to see this camera as online and you can view it in internet explorer, the nvr video output itself, but not the amcrest app. The amcrest app never worked with these cameras. As far as motion detection, i was unable to set regions for these cameras at all and the only motion detection setting was "sensitivity" which even when cranked all the way up never detected any motion. . Dahua: the nvr detects it on the network and sees that its an onvif camera. You add in the user details and it lists the camera as online immediately. This camera is viewable in internet explorer, the nvr video output, and the amcrest app. Again, unable to configure motion detection regions or get the nvr to ever detect motion with the camera. . I don't want to go out and buy a totally new set of cameras though when what i had was working properly with zoneminder. The main reason i wanted to switch was to get h264 video instead of mjpeg without switching to the h264 branch in github. I figured this appliance might do what i needed but that was very far from the truth. Do not get this nvr if you plan to use non-amcrest cameras; if you do get amcrest cameras then maybe it'd work.

Comparing this to my synology survellance system product is a no-brainer. First, you have to make sure you are using an app in chrome to even be able to view this thing on a pc. Really? its a clumsy system compared to the other products i have used. I am still trying to get it going well but it just doesn't look like it is going to work. And the dumbest thing on this system, i have several amcrest cameras. When doing an add for cameras guess what brand isn't there? looks like they found the cheapest thing they could and slapped their name on it.

Although this product seemed to to fine at 1080p, one 4mp reolink camera was causing a lot of problems for live view, and recording. The recorded video which skip seconds even at 15 fps. The ui for the nvr itself is really clunky and hard to use with just a mouse. However the app and the windows software are really nice and once connected to the network make it easy to configure the other settings. It wasn't an easy setup for a non-branded onvif, but i was able to figure it out with my it background. In the end the box could just not keep up with the processing and was a disappointment. Returning the product to try something else.

I bought the amcrest nvr to go with the amcrest cameras because i couldn't get the gw nvr to work with the amcrest cameras. I think the problem at this point is with amcrest products in general. Still waiting for gw cameras to confirm. Major issue for me was having to install plugins for the pc and the browsers. And support for chrome, my usual browser, did not work at all. Actually, none of the browser plugins worked. Either for the cameras or the nvr. Oh yeah, and the installer cd hung, too. I don't think anything went right. I am not a fan of having to go to an external web site in order to see my video feed if i'm home. With this, it seems as though everything was going to be through the web site. They need to modernize their app to be browser-independent and plugin-free. Then use the web site for away-from-home access, if desired. Since i'd rather not expose my system to external sites, then i simply wouldn't use that aspect.

Returning it back to online store will not work just keep's wanting me to install a dumb plugin that i have installed 20 times trying to get this system to work . Have tired chrome, firefox, edge

Update: after several hours of tweaking both the camera and nvr settings i got motion detecting kind of working. The connection to the ap got faster and more stable somehow, still not sure what changed there. Web interface is still a fiasco but if i use the amcrest surveillance pro, software instead locally it works well. Camera display still lags on the box, but not with the software on my computer, weird, must be a low processing power thing with the nvr. There are way better options out there but at least it is almost doing what i bought it for. . Starting with the good:. 1. I did get it set up easily. 2. Most of my onvif cameras are displaying. 3. Hard drive was easy to install. . However the bad was a bit much:. 1. Will not set up motion detection correctly. 2. Will not upgrade firmware. 3. Camera display lags probably because it is only a 10/100 network port. 4. Camera display has constant artifacts. 5. Online support took 10 minutes to respond, transferred me four times and then told me to call. 6. Phone support was less enjoyable or productive than just eating the box would have been. 7. Apparently if it is not their camera they don t support it even though they say they support all onvif. 8. Ddns does not update. 9. Both web and local software is clunky and prone to errors. 10. Constantly fails to load camera config. 11. Web interface for ie requires the install of several plugins. 12. Web interface for chrome requires a plug in that does not even have a back button. This is a pain when downloading the firmware update as you can t go back to your camera. 13. Web interfaces do not store either the cameras address or the username and password. These must be typed in manually every time you open the addon or page. 14. Android interface takes forever to connect, assuming it does not fail, and if you switch cameras it will take forever to display the new camera. 15. Nonstandard file format for recorded video files. . I have had this for one day and am already ready to toss it in the trash. This is supposed to be a security camera system. It s not just about getting the cameras image on screen. If my security alarm or motion detector goes off i need to be able to log in fast, page through all the cameras i own and pull video or snapshots from the system for reporting it to the authorities. With the way this unit works an intruder could have robbed the place, burned it down and rebuilt it before i had a chance to see my back yard. This unit is not an inexpensive alternative that you should expect to make concessions for. It is less expensive because it does not include a hard drive or poe ports. It should provide a quality unit that simply lacks the items i already have so i don t have to pay for them twice. It needs to do what it advertises and does not.

Meme: software is like a joke- if you have to explain it, it isn't any good. For the price break, i guess it may be four stars. I'm a computer and networking professional, and this was not easy to figure out how to use. The documentation is horrible, even the download from amcrest website. Motion is not effective for constant motion records jagged video. I had to record all the time with one-hour overwrite upon full disk. I do not recommend using a real hard drive for your selection. The enclosure may be huge, but frankly the electronics inside could fit in your shirt pocket, and i doubt the internal power supplies' ability to power a full hard drive. I had an intel 650 gig ssd laying around, so i installed that and from a hardware standpoint it works great. I have this paired with two amcrest wi-fi cameras, and the video is fine. Search recorded video feature is useless. Fforward works good though, so 6 hour video review took about 30 minutes. Overall, the software and documentation could use some review, but with youtube, you'll figure it out.

I bought this unit to replace a micro computer running blue iris with a number of cameras around the property. This functioned perfectly for many years but needed to be replaced and i wanted a low power replacement. . Initially, i was quite disappointed that it would not function well with foscam interior cameras. After replacing these, (purchased but obsolete) older cameras with new amcrest cameras, it seemed to work, "a bit" better. But no where near close to what it should be capable of. . This unit should be sold with a reliable large-cap surveillance hard drive. I don't see the average user doing this and rendering the unit unreliable. It should come from the factory equipped correctly. . The user interface is, "meh" at very best and i don't believe that there is enough processor headroom to offer much more. This is unfortunate and leads me to look elsewhere once this starts to disappoint as much as it has so far. . What this unit needs:. . - better software security. Special characters in passwords are not permitted $& %. Passwords are weak. - remove the lan wan selector from the login and deal with the security before that. - complete control of cameras. Iffy at best. Two cameras will still not mirror image even after re-assigning three times. - the web interface is "clunky". If you authenticate log in, select a default camera view, you shouldn't have to open separate camera steams. - the playback is very delayed, even on lan. The combination of the ui and the data appears to overwhelm the cpu/gpu. - the attention to "bells and whistles" is very high, but basic functionality and reliability is quite low. - user accounts need to be clear. Cannot add users with admin rights with any consistency. - device settings will occasionally reset themselves causing a lot of phone data traffic. - phone app is poorly designed and has limited capability. This needs a lot of help and cannot be relied upon. . This is a basic shell of a good device. But it could be a lot better. It feels like it was designed to, "just do this one thing". It needs to do more. Even if it costs more. Please do this right. It has potential. . Update 3/2017: update to a master password crashed the entire unit and locked it out. No longer able to recover unit. But then again, i'm done trying to "baby" this thing anymore. Tried to get a master password, but the unit is no longer reliable. It's going back. . Please buy this at your own risk.

Its falsely advertised. I connected four amcrest 4mp cameras and the system freezes. Connect only 3 and it works. Contacted support and they told me to turn down the resolution of all the cameras as the nvr system would only work with 1080p on 4 channels. I payed a lot more for 4mp cameras to be told to turn the resolution down? . . Do your research on the bitrate of a system before you buy it. Listing states 80mbps but the 4108 is only 56mbps. Each 4mp camera takes 16mbps so you can only run 3 at full settings. The "16 channel" still only has 80mbps and would therefore only run 5 cameras at 4mp. It's a widespread problem on online store and the internet. Manufacturers are intentionally leaving out the max bitrate of their nvr systems because they are too low to support their claims of x amount of channels at high resolutions. . I have added the actual specs as images for the nv4116 and nv4108

Ben larson did a good job resolving issues with nvr setup. So far nvr is working as it should. If i have any further i'm sure ben will be able to help out. (this is an update on nvr operation since last review 3 weeks ago. The same problems that that prompted my last call to tech support resurfaced multiple times. That is very erratic connection in and out of local network. I had done set up many times and had it working and then odd things would start happening. Tech support has redone and got it working fine as well then various erratic behavior and the need to call back. Most recent was unable to login using same password that worked fine locally but would not work offsite. I'd go into local computer using remote desktop control and was able to login using password consistently. Try again remote multiple times but password rejected. Another problem is when i changed passwords in all cameras using their address's using ie browser. Logged out and back in fine. Logged into amcrest surveillance pro. Waited for cameras to come online. Then one by one started receiving login password errors for cameras. After a few minutes all camera returned messages that there were locked. From then on could not login to cameras individually from browser or anywhere else. Fortunately after about 15-20 minutes they unlocked. While that's not uncommon after several failed attempts at passwords. I hadn't done that. I'd only changed the password once, re-logged back in no problems. Then for whatever reason the software jumped to failed attempt mode and locked everything up. There have been other glitches as well. All in all things have not gone well. Customer is quite frustrated and needless to say not happy. If i could return system and go with other mfr i would. Now just trying to resolve these bugs to get customer site functional. Having said all that. The only thing i cannot complain about is the quality and support time provided by amcrest tech support. Each and every call they devoted as much time as required to get issues resolved. Unfortunately, at least from my experiences, there are issues with certain ip products that are going to require their same effort time after time. )

Nvr stops recording every couple days with the error message "cannot connect to network host", will not record again until i manually reboot the system, delete all the cameras, and re-install them. A few days later, deja vu. This has been going on since i got the device 8 months ago from the amcrest website. When i was run off the road on my motorcycle and crashed in front of my house, the nvr didn't record it and the guy got away. When i discovered my pet murdered in the backyard, the nvr did not record it, leaving it a mystery as to who or what did it. Every time an incident occurs in view of the cameras, the nvr fails to record it. I have contacted amcrest support, but they do not have a solution. I have discovered there are many others out there who are experiencing the same issues with the nvr, but haven't gotten answers. What good is having an nvr if it doesn't record the important events? not worth the high maintenance.

Had to return it do to the problem(s) with it. Bought this unit and two ip cameras of the same brand to ensure compatibility. Setup was really easy for the unit and the cameras. Admittedly though i am a software developer with a degree in networking so i know how to deal with these kind of products. . Initially the only problem i had was the lack of support for modern browsers. Be advised that current versions of internet explorer (edge) and chrome do not support the plugins needed to view these cameras or the nvr from the browser. You can download and use firefox though which does support them. At the time i am writing this the current firefox version is 45. 0. 1 and it works fine once you install and enable the plugins. This is a headache for people that don't realize this or want to use firefox and needs to be addressed by the company but i was willing to live with it. . But then the other problems started. Every day i woke up to find that all the cameras had been disconnected from the nvr sometime overnight. I would have to reset them all to get them to start streaming again. Another headache and one i was not happy with as overnight security is the primary reason i bought this. . Then around 6pm on day four the unit started beeping. I went to look at it and it was "upgrading" so i left it alone and went away. But a little later when the unit was still beeping every few minutes i went back and watched it. It appeared stuck in an upgrade loop that went like this:. . 1. Unit would shutdown and restart (beep). 2. Immediately show a "upgrading firmware" dialog with a progress bar. 3. Progress bar hits 100% and unit would shutdown and restart (beep). 4. Immediately show a "saving data" dialog for about 10 seconds. 5. Repeat from step 1. . This went on until 11pm when i had had enough. There was nothing i could do but unplug the system to get it to stop. The next morning i boxed it all back up and returned it. This is unfortunately not a stable enough product / manufacturer for me to trust with my home security. I replaced the system with a hd-tvi tribrid system and so far it has been exceptional.

This is the 3rd (! ) amcrest nvr (2 x 4108e w/ poe and 1 x 4108 plus an external amcrest poe switch) i bought and still cannot get it to work! i am using all amcrest equipment (poe switch and cameras) solid core copper cat 6 cabling and the nvrs's will not see the cameras! i called the help line several times over 7 days and 'a senior tech will call you back' after hours of troubleshooting. If you aren't there when they call - you have to start all over again (as they leave no return phone etc. ) i am familiar with switches ip addrs etc. And still no help. Ironically i tried a netgear poe switch and it all works fine! the problem is i don't want to buy a seperate switch for $150 with only 4 ports with poe - the 4108e (remember - i bought 2! ) should work as designed! i am still waiting for the 'senior' tech to call (seemingly at their leisure) to try to address my issue! i have never been so frustrated!
