Price was $59.99. These cameras are great! picture quality is excellent and setup was a breeze. Paired with poe switch makes wiring clean and easy. I bought 6 of these paired with an amcrest nvr.

Preface : Amcrest Outdoor Bullet Security Camera (ip2m 842eb)

I bought four of these to replace a cheap 8 camera dvr system that was about $300. The four cameras plus the blue iris software i bought for it cost more than my entire last system and it was well worth it. The pictures are crisp and clear and the night ir works quite well. $100 per camera of these is a greate value in my opinion. I didn't really play much with the default software packages. I used the amcrest ip configuration software to give my four camera specific ip addresses. I also used the built in web confit page to change some of the basic settings, mostly turning off the text it displays. My blue iris software takes care of time stamp text on the footage so i disabled the cameras built in text, i found it was constantly drifting off after a few days. Of course while i was in the web configured utility i doubt the option for network time sync which would have prevented this drift, but i still have my dvr software write the time stamp. I'm moving to a new house soon and i plant on buying several more of these cameras. #Amcrest Ip2m 841 1920tvl Wireless The Best prohd outdoor poe bullet ip security ( Sep 2019 ) | Amcrest-Surveilance Systems Review Benefit Amcrest ProHD Outdoor 1080P POE Bullet IP Security Camera - IP67 Weatherproof, 1080P (1920 TVL), IP2M-842E (Black) Superior hd 1080p (2mp) video resolution at 30fps. record and playback using an amcrest or onvif nvr, ftp, or blue iris. optional amcrest cloud video recording service is also available.. Amcrest Prohd Outdoor 1080p Poe Bullet Ip Security Camera - Ip67 Weatherproof, 1080p 1920 Tvl , Ip2m-842e Black Review (ip2m 842eb)

We installed three of this camera about three weeks ago. Love them so far. The picture is fantastic. Even in pitch black. You have no idea the camera is on you and it captures every detail on your silly face! . The software built into the amcrest is great to get you started and create dedicated url's for each camera. Then i moved to blue iris. Bi has a learning curve and now that i think i have it down, i love it. (watch the youtube's and just experiment. ). . I hardwired all my cameras, poe, to a switch, which i had to buy. I have had wifi security cameras and they are not worth a nickel if the wifi blinks out. Yes the attic crawl was super fun, but it is done. Yes, they are stiff and hard to position but once they are in place, you don't have to re-adjust at all. . I can't tell you how good it feels to know you can see if your packages were dropped off at the front door or just tossed against the garage door. (yes, for real. ) then you can text your . And have them pick up the package for you before it walks away. . Advice - change the password on each camera to make them your own and unhackable! it is very easy to hack anything if they kept the admin password on the unit. -J. Alma

PROS
  • I bought three of these and connected them to a tenda tef1105p poe switch. I'm using blue iris software to record and monitor. I have three other types of cameras on my system and these are the best so far. I really like that they include a waterproof connector for your cable. Very clear picture and the nightvision is awesome. Every other ir camera i've used has limited nightvision area and they're basically useless at night except directly in front of the camera. These really light up a good area around the camera. You can't view the live video without a plugin, which means you're pretty much limited to internet explorer if you want to view the live feed directly from the camera. I don't know why so many cameras make that mistake, but using blue iris or your phone works great. Tinycam pro can see the live feed from the camera and from blue iris also.
  • Kudos to amcrest for providing a zoneminder howto video on youtube! they've done something that other companies simply refuse to do by not alienating their non-windows users. I had it up and running in zoneminder in less than 5 minutes. I'm happy with the camera so far. The angle is good but has a little fisheye effect. The only reason i knocked off a star is that their web plugin for chromium simply doesn't work. I installed amcrest webview from the chrome app store but still cannot get a live stream from the camera's web interface. Since i'm using zoneminder, i can see the stream in zoneminder's interface and i don't really care that i can't see my live stream in the camera's configuration interface but it would be nice for the on-camera config. I've ordered a second one and will probably get more after that. I try to reward companies that are linux-friendly by giving them my business.

CONS
  • Camera works well, but was a pain to set up as it was delivered with the default password reset to something other than the default. Not sure if this was a fault of the manufacturer or supplier. Had to unmount the camera and disassemble it to reset to factory. The instructions to reset did not match the actual hardware which made the job more interesting. Works with my synology just fine. Android apps are functional.
  • Don't buy these cameras unless you love to spend days upon days upon days troubleshooting. Every time the power goes out which happens a lot in my neighborhood, something gets completely messed up and i spend days and days fixing it again. After spending the entire winter troubleshooting all my various problems, i'm still stuck with cameras that won't email me when there's movement (tried everything), and i've never been able to get the app to allow me to view the live feeds unless i'm on site. Yes i've read everything out there on the internet about how to fix it, yes i've talked to customer support, yes i've tried this yes i've tried that. With my latest power outage, the entire system changed ip addresses on me which took me hours to figure out, and only one of my three cameras i've set up has come back online. The app is completely down now and no amount of resetting is fixing it. I'm now going to need to spend money to hire a professional to come in here to sort out these problems. . When they work, they're very helpful and i feel very secure. But dang, what a giant pain in the but these are.
  • I like the video performance, but the mechanical design is so so. Unfortunately, the product support is not good.

Click to see NoticeAmcrest Outdoor Bullet Security Camera (ip2m 842eb)"I purchased 4 of these camera to place around all the exits of my home. A few years back a couple of guys tried to break in to the house and the wife has been asking me to add security cameras for piece of mind. I also think adding cameras around the house act as a great deterrent again intruders. At night the soft glow of the led night vision lights also a great warning that they are on camera. . I went with poe cameras since even the wireless ones still need a cable for power so i bought a 8 port poe injector ws-poe-8-48v60w passive 10/100 power over ethernet poe injector for 8 ip cameras, voip phones or access points, 48 volts, 60 watts total power which connects via cat5e to the cameras and the dlink switches for the house network. I used blueiris added to a media pc i already had to act as the control center for all of the camera which i can access via a web page or using their mobile app. . The first camera was a little tricky to setup since it was the first but after i figured it out the next cameras took about 60 seconds. I do recommend setting up a static ip so if there is a power outage they don't come up with a new ip address and you can't find them. Video quality during the day and night is very good. Impressed how far the night vision can reach although my primary concern is without 30-40 feet of the entrances. . I think the physical quality of the cameras is good. Previous reviewers have talked about two small wires hanging out. I think they have gotten rid of this now. On this model there is the ethernet connection which comes with outside water-resistant connectors and another smaller connector which looks like it could be used for external power. Not sure how you would reset the cameras now. I did wish that it was possible to be able to disconnect their 8" or so cable and just plug the ethernet right in to the camera base. On one of my camera their cable is inside the wall but its visible in the other installations. . So far i'm very happy with the purchase and we will see how they hold up against colorado weather."

(0) Question: Can you mount this camera to a wall?

(1) Question: Can this camera be configured to sync time via an ntp server?

(2) Question: I want to be able to record the footage and review it later. can i record the stream on my pc? do i need to purchase a separate dvr and if yes camera?

Amcrest ProHD Outdoor 3 Megapixel POE Bullet IP Security Camera - IP67 Weatherproof, 3MP 2048 TVL , IP3M-954E White

I purchased this camera to overlook the driveway and monitor the mailbox. I wanted something small and unnoticeable. I have several pan/tilt cameras in the house, but this was my first outdoor amcrest camera. When i first got the camera it was smaller and more discrete than i thought, making it more than perfect for my install. . Once i had it installed i didn't know that the camera rotated on 3 axes inside it's housing. It has one axis that rotates left/right 360*, one that controls pitch up/down 180, * and another that rotates the entire lens. The lens axis is hard to notice, but it rotates like a puck on ice. I wasn't happy with the fisheye direction at first installed, but sliding the lens 90* fixed the small sliver view to a nice wide angled view of the whole driveway and mailbox. . I used amcrest ip config software for the initial port configuration and added the camera into my ip cam viewer app. There is a web based gui, but it can be a little glitchy. I would give this 5 stars, but documentation on the camera is pretty limited and i had to search their site for the ip software. Other than that, this is a great camera in a small package.

Amcrest Outdoor Megapixel Bullet Security (ip3m 954ew) FAQ.

I have had a couple different security cameras and have a wireless ip camera inside the garage. I was unhappy with that one because it only stores video on the onboard sd card which can only be accessed by a cell phone app. I wanted something a bit more professional with storage on a remote windows pc. . I decided to try the amcrest prohd outdoor poe camera for this even though it is not wireless and uses a regular cat5/6 ethernet cable to transport the signal. . Installation. . My setup is probably different to most but is only slightly more complicated. . Poe injector (required). . Before i begin, i should explain that poe stands for power over ethernet. So you need a separate peripheral called a poe injector to inject a dc voltage that powers the camera through the ethernet cable. The injector uses one wall outlet to provide power. . Powerline network adapter (my optional addition). . Since this camera is going on the far corner of my garage looking down the driveway, i didn t want to have to route an extra ethernet cable from the study in the house all the way to the garage. Instead, i used a powerline network adapter i ve had for a while now. The adapter uses your standard household ac wiring to create an ethernet/lan connection. You need your router hooked up to a transmitter plugged into a wall outlet and a receiver in another outlet in the remote location. Since power to the garage comes from the house, the signal is transported just fine. . The powerline receiver in the garage ac wall outlet has an ethernet cable to the poe injector input. And the injector has a ethernet cable + power from the injector output to the camera. . This worked flawlessly with a 50 foot cable routed around the garage from the injector to the camera. . The only slightly tricky part was drilling the hold for the camera cable to pass through into the garage. I made a single hole behind the camera. It had to be quite large because of the stumpy ethernet socket in the camera lead. I ended up drilling a 1 inch hole to install the camera with no wires visible on the outside. Once the wire was passed through i filled the remainder of the hole with silicon caulk. . In use. . Mobile devices. . The easiest way to view the camera is from an ios or android app. You install the amcrest view pro or lite app. When you start it up it will ask you to scan in the qr code on the label on the side of the camera. Change the login or password (which should be done so your camera can t be easily hacked) and voila, you can monitor the camera on your phone. The pro version offers more functionality including setup of schedules and motion detection. . The camera. . The camera seems very well built with an all metal case and sliding hood if you need to cast shade over the lens. It s more compact than many i have seen. The body of the camera is connected to a base by a ball joint. The base has a plastic covering with three holes and a channel for the wire which exits the base at the center. A foam gasket is permanently attached with the cutout channel for feeding the wire along the wall. I simply drilled a big hole center to the case for the cable to fit through the wall. . The face of the camera has a small lens centered with an array of leds for night vision surrounding it. It looks nice but isn t too conspicuous. It has a decent angle of view which you can see in my screenshots. A lead exits the back of the base with an ethernet socket at the end. And what appears to be a round single pole dc input. No power supply is included since typically you would use a power over ethernet injector to save on wire clutter. . Windows desktop. . I installed amcrest surveilance pro and amcrest ip config on my windows 10 pc. Rudimentary instructions come with the camera in the form of a small leaflet. But the amcrest website has a full pdf manual and various help pages with animated diagrams and sometimes videos illustrating how everything works. . I used amcrest ip config to find my camera on the network and set the password. I don t have a static ip from my internet provider and noticed that if there is a power-cut, the camera has to be registered with the new ip the network gives it. Amcrest ip config is the easiest place to fix any basic network issues. It also lets you view the camera through a simple interface. . Amcrest surveilance pro is the security suite that gives you access to the full power of the camera. Another utility called pc-nvr is installed alongside it and is used to channel the camera s video stream to the storage on your home pc hard drive. Pc-nvr is a start up app that runs in the background; all the setup is done from within the main amcrest surveilance pro. . The software has very easy to setup schedules with features like general video recording, motion detection, alarm and a smart combination mode of motion detections and alarms. . The software uses a windows style desktop with icons for different areas. So it is pretty intuitive. . A devices icon when clicked, opens a window showing available camera devices. Mine was already available; i just had to change the password for the camera to match the one i gave it on the android app previously. Then it worked flawlessly. . The pc-nvr icon then opens to show you all your computer hard drives and other storage devices. You just pick one and enter how many gb you want to allocate to the selected drive and confirm your setting. The software restarts seamlessly and you re done. . To set up the camera, there is a devices config icon. Clicking on that you are given a separate desktop for your camera with its own set of icons. Here you can set up all the camera s functionality. All your cameras are listed in the left column, once one is selected all adjustments effect that camera alone. . Video detect icon. . This opens up a window that lets you set up motion detection. A checkbox enables the feature while the zone set button lets you adjust the settings. It shows a live view of your camera overlaid with a grid. You have four color presets with which you can paint the grid. Each color has its own sensitivity and threshold sliders you can customize. You can also give each one a name. You simply color in the grid where you want motion detection to work. Your color preset determines how sensitive it should be. Leaving areas without any color masks that area from motion detection. This is useful if you don t want some areas to register like in my case street traffic at the end of the driveway activating the recording. I included a photo to show you the motion detection grid. . Video recording. . There is another icon called record that lets you set a schedule either by day of the week or globally for the whole week. You have horizontal timeline bars in different colors showing at a glance what modes your camera is set up for during different times of day. Each day can have 6 user defined periods. . I experimented and played with general video recording green and motion detect yellow. There is also a red alarm where you can set up an alarm that sounds when motion is detected. There seems to be options for emailing or texting alarms too. . I included a screenshot of this section. Once set you can leave your camera to do its thing. In the end i went with motion detect only, so the camera only records at those times that it senses motion. . Playback. . To play back your recordings, on the main homepage/desktop there is an icon called playback. This is a video player. You select your camera and press the search button and it will show you all the video stored for that camera. I have included a screenshot showing this in operation. All video currently stored appears on a time bar on the bottom left of the screen. It s color coded to match the colors used when setting up your schedule. Regular recording is green, motion detect is yellow. You can slide the timeline along the bar in real time to scroll through the video or change to event mode where it lists events in text when stuff occurred. Clicking on an event plays back that segment. It s all very intuitive. . Conclusion. . This camera is excellent. It takes a bit of time to set up. But setup was easy and the software is pretty intuitive with plenty of online animated tutorials. . The image quality is very good. Easily as good as a cell phone with good detail and color. It may even be better than most cell phones since it doesn t change the exposure drastically with bright lights and the night vision worked very well the length of our driveway and across the street to the neighbors house. . The software too is very good. If you are used to video editing it s pretty intuitive though it did take a couple of hours for me to find all the info and work out how video recording schedules and playback work. Once you figure out it s quick and easy. . If there was one thing i didn t like about the software it s that there are delays when setting up. I m not sure if the software communicates with the camera and updates data on the camera but there are fairly long pauses when scheduling and motion detection grids load and also when they are stored. The only reason i can think of is that the software and the camera are having some kind of discourse behind the scenes. The delay is between 15 and 20 seconds. . Areas that don t involve setup are a lot more snappy. Once it s up and running it takes some time to fine tune motion detection recording. In my case a spider created a web nearby and one windy night a section blew in front of the camera triggering a video recording. Leaves blowing across the driveway, likewise. But after some adjustment of the sensitivity in the motion detection grid these niggles were ironed out. . I was also very happy that the camera works well over my unconventional powerline network which was a big plus saving the trouble of routing ethernet cable from the router in the study across the garden to the garage. I only have the one camera currently, but plan on adding another to monitor the front of the house too. . Disclaimer: this camera was provided in exchange for an honest and fair review. The opinions expressed are my own. -Notice from G. Mahood, Georgia

I've installed the nvr and cameras in a test environment, waiting for flood repairs to be completed to my house. Everything is working fine. . I deducted one star because the included printed instructions are lacking. There were two "amcrest nvr quick start guides. " one was seven pages and had only simple line drawings of the nvr and didn't thoroughly represent or describe my device. The second guide is 82 pages with useful photos and instructions. . The setup was challenging using the user app built into the nvr. From my point of view the challenges were mostly due to the very large number of required vs optional settings. I haven't yet dived into the multitude of detection settings. . I find the management of recorded views to be difficult and inadequate. It seems you can't delete a recording of a specific camera or for a specific time period. You can allow the oldest recording to be overwritten once the storage is full or automatically delete those beyond a specified number of days. There is available a detailed schedule for each camera, but i haven't tackled that yet. The only other way to delete files is to "format" the hard drive - scary. . After some trial and error, i was successful in getting the amcrest view app to provide local and remote access to the system with my ipad and iphone. Lots of options. . Amcrest has a lot of documentation and video online. My first experiences with their email and phone support have been marginal, but ultimately successful. They couldn't help with my inquiry to connect my old foscam cameras. Direct contact with foscam resulted in a very quick offer of a "significant" discount on a new amcrest camera. I haven't followed up on that yet.

- L. BarbaraExcellent system but to avoid problems use with amcrest cameras if you can. . I bought this system with 4 more 3mp cameras for a total of 8 cameras. The first impression unpacking it, is that this is a quality product, well packed and built with good materials and the finish and quality is very good. . The nvr comes with a 2tb hdd power supply and a thick manual (which is good). Cameras are a little bit heavy because of the solid metal it is built with but not too heavy. . 4 ethernet cables are included, 2x 60ft and 2x 100ft. The cameras come with a waterproof connector if you want to build your own cable. . Installation is not difficult, just connect the power on the nvr, connect the cameras with the provided ethernet cable, connect the nvr to a router and that is it. You can view the video feeds on your tablet or phone using the amcrest view pro. In the app, scan the nvr qr code and if everything is connected properly you should not have any problems. . Excellent video quality with the 3mp cameras i'm using. . The nvr has so many possible configurations is a little bit confusing sometimes. This was not a bad thing for me but can be a problem for some users. For example the recording schedule is set to default to record at all times. You have to change that otherwise it is going to use a lot of storage space, and to change it to motion recording only is not intuitive. . The only problem i found is the limited camera support for not amcrest branded cameras, if you can make a different ip poe camera to work with this nvr great, if not, amcrest support says: "sorry, nothing we can do". . So make sure you not amcrest branded cameras work with this nvr before you even try to run your cables. . Another thing about this system is that it creates a separate segment on the network, so it becomes a subnet. It is good for amcrest camera connectivity for bad for others. One way to overcome that is to connect the cameras to a poe switch and have the nvr find the cameras on the network. . The amcrest view pro app works very well, push notifications works fine and email notifications as well. . If you received a coupon for online store use it before it expires, they don't last long. Or you can purchase directly from amcrest. Com and they will give you 10% discount if you ask nicely.

I really can't say any more than what's already been said by everyone else. They are good cameras for their price point. I have two of these cameras and they work well. But longevity is the bigger question. And i'm wondering how they'll do. During the frosty winters. . I run two of these outside; one for the front door/entry way and the other for the driveway. I'll be adding another for the back yard/back door eventually. . Here's my equipment config that's working well so far:. . 1. Two of these cameras set to 1080p. 2. Tp-link 8-port poe switch (4 poe / 4 regular). 3. Rt-n66u asus router set to wireless media bridge mode. 4. Rt-n66u asus router set to wireless router mode. 5. Old dell dimension 9100 pentium d 2. 8ghz w/4gb ram. 6. Blue iris software set to record "direct-to-disk". . My setup works decently well. Cpu usage stays around 50%-60% during the day and around 30%-40% at night time (black and white). Adding a third camera though will most likely require a computer upgrade. . The cameras have good color during the day time and during the night i switch them over to black and white. The ir range on them is a bit limited but is adequate for i use them for. One word of caution, to get the most out of the ir don't have something in the cameras field of view that is bright in color as it will wash out the picture at night time and cause darker areas to be even darker. Using the ir in my driveway looks far better than the ir in the entry way that is surrounded by yellow siding from the house. But, the camera app software does provide you with enough settings to tweak to get the image almost where you need it. . This is my first foray into security cameras and they seem to do the job perfectly. But, how long will they last?

Good quality product. The software is intuitive and easy to use. After a month i could not remember the password to modify the system and the customer service from amcrest helped with a temp password right away. Good customer service. You will need to buy your own hard drive and make sure it is for security or designed for continuous loop. They just work better.

Amcrest HDSeries Outdoor 1.3 Megapixel 960P POE Bullet IP Security Camera - IP67 Weatherproof, 1.3MP 960P 1280 TVL , IPM-743E Silver

Update: i reviewed too soon. I purchased two cameras and within 24 hours one of them started sending really pixelated and unusable video when in hd mode. I swapped the broken one with the second one and it works fine using the same cable in the same location. I will see if it fails too. I'm returning the broken one unless amcrest actually responds and knows a fix. -. This camera works great and is easy to setup. The nightvision isn't 98 feet. Like other cameras the nightvision specs are exaggerated. Take a look at my screenshot at night, which is about 30-40 feet of good nightvision maybe. But the stuff you can see is really clear. Other than that the video looks good, setup is a breeze, and it works great with blue iris. The android app works well too if you can remember what all the icons mean. I'm using these with a tenda tef1105p poe switch. . For those wanting to access the live feed in a browser other than internet explorer, try entering this address: 192. 168. Xxx. Amcrest Hdseries Outdoor Megapixel Security (ipm 743es) FAQ.

Great camera. Does exactly what is expected. I am replacing several foscam outdoor cameras that recently went bad all at the same time, and decided to go with these as they were similarly priced. . They have a great web interface, and it was really easy to set them up. They can run either on poe power, or dc adapter. I have some running each way currently. . Night vision range is great. They have been up for about a month now, and no problems at all! . . The only negative i can say is that if you want to view these outside of your network with tinycam monitor, or something similar, you do have to port forward both the tcp ports and the rstp ports rather than just one port like i had to on the foscam's. . Oh, and they work great with blue iris! -Notice from S. Kelly, Durham

I initially had problems with this camera, but amcrest replaced it after they agreed it was defective. The replacement camera was set up with their help and so far has been working great. I want to mention that my contact with one of their help desk people by the name of mario romero was great. He knew how to evaluate a problem and explained clearly how to correct it. It was great to work with him. These are reasonably priced cameras. I gave this a 4 star rating because the first camera failed, but just so you understand, mario deserves a 6 star rating.

- G. ReedGreat value camera. Not a high res or crisp as some of my more expensive cameras but hard to beat for the money. Only been installed for a couple of days but i would give this a great thumbs up for the value

I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out the best way to get cameras deployed around the house - i looked at wifi cameras but finally decided that i was better off with poe cameras since every place i wanted to put a camera would have required me to run either an outlet or cat5. I concluded that it was going to be a lot easier to just run a cat5 and have the stability of a wired connection. These are also much smaller and less obtrusive than the wifi systems from foscam i was looking at. . I have this system tied with an amcrest nvr and have been really happy with the combined system. The nvr has poe ports built in so i have run the cable directly from the camera to the nvr and have a very stable system running now. I have not tried to access the individual cameras through the web portal since the nvr has its own portal where i can see all the cameras at once.

Amcrest Nv4108 Network Recorder Built (fba nv4108) FAQ.

It saves me a lot of wiring since it work like a server, good to acceptable ios and android phone 4g lte monitoring, works on win 10 and mac os x. Will require a poe switch to network your poe bullet ip cameras, i use armcrest switch. Connect your nvr to the modem, connect each poe switch to the modem then spread your cameras from there. I use jennov ip bullet cameras, better picture, more compatible, so much cheaper, easy to detect in the network; i mute the volume since i have no mic. I returned the armcrest bullet cameras, it's too slow, mediocre image yet more expensive. -Notice from R. Donna, Berlin

I originally purchased a ctronics that was on clearance for $50. It worked but it would drop cameras at times for 5-45 min. The phone app was horrible sometimes 5 min before it loaded and buffered. So i bought this amcrest. Wow what a difference. Very easy setup and phone app loads quick. I set it up in like 20 min from pulling out of box and installing harddrive. Only issue was remote view. I didn't read the instructions. I work nights and was unable to view my cameras, but if i was onmy home network it was fine. When i got home i looked at the instructions, well i google the issue and it went to a setup video from amcrest and showed how to setup remote viewing. 10 min later i was golden. Love this recorder. Highly recommend

Amcrest ProHD Outdoor 3 Megapixel POE Vandal Dome IP Security Camera - IP67 Weatherproof, IK10 Vandal-Proof, 3MP 2048 TVL , IP3M-956E Black

Camera is pretty interesting to set up, lots of customization options. However, this specific model does not have micro-sd support. This means that the only local storage options you have are the nvr, if you choose to set that up. This is perplexing as the user manual on the amcrest site for this model has the guide to configure sd card recording. Never does it exclude this model from that feature. And there actually is a slot for it on the camera. Even more confusing. Tech support that maybe in the future this option will be enabled. This camera is not new. Its at least 1- 2 years old. When the hell will it get that. All other features are great. But for the security minded, local (or in network) recording is the only option, so you'll have to get the nvr. This makes the cost of the camera add up really fast. No longer is it a cheap $100 camera (with potential sd card cost) . Now you either pay for the cloud (free is only 4 hours worth) or you build out an nvr. The latter can run you into the $300 range. With time to setup.

Amcrest Outdoor Megapixel Vandal Security (ip3m 956eb) FAQ.

I had a foscam ip camera that was 3 years old and continually having to be physically rebooted (unplug, replug, reboot), so i upgraded and went with a poe and nvr setup. This camera works much better than my old foscam and it was a significant upgrade as far as resolution and ease of getting electricity to the camera so i am happy with that. I work with computers so i was able to get my poe, nvr, and poe switch set-up eventually, but it is not for the faint of heart. The software for the camera and nvr is beyond terrible (it's the same software for the camera and nvr). It is worse than the old foscam software and i thought that was terrible. To say it is not intuitive is an understatement. The instructions make no sense. Getting the nvr to recognize the camera took multiple reboots. The amcrest nvr does not even list its own amcrest cameras in the pull-down camera selector. My laptop was so horrified by the security issues in the software i had to create an exception to allow the pages to load and the gui looks like it was built by a high school kid in 1998. I knew that for the price it would not be awesome software but wow. This is amazingly bad. They've added a lot of variables and "functionality" to the software that just add to the confusion and most don't work exactly how you would think. It took me about a week of working on the setup and the software a little bit every day to get it to do what i wanted (record motion to the nvr and send motion-triggered images to my email) but i think i have it working well enough. So at the moment i am happy enough with the camera but i would not recommend it for someone who has not worked with terrible software before or who wants a camera up and running immediately. -Notice from . I'm building my home surveillance system piece by piece and these are a worthwhile addition. In my opinion these are very well-built cameras, and i plan to order more of them to complete my system. Heavy-duty cast aluminum case, and glass dome is heavy and seems sufficiently thick. Sealing arrangement is very good. The o-ring is arranged so mounting holes are outside of the sealed area, and a small bag of desiccant is fastened to the wires inside to absorb any moisture that finds its way in. Documentation consists of a quick-start guide (in decent english! ) which provided enough, but not an abundance, of information and a small cd with the configuration utility. I didn't use the cd and instead visited the maker's web page and downloaded the latest version. The utility s/w quickly and easily found the 2 new units i added to the network and it was easy to re-name them and change the pw and network settings and to update the firmware. The camera supports a web-based viewer that i tried out but won't use use for anything than verifying camera operation and adjusting the lens position. It required several add-ins/plug-ins be added to the browser (i used firefox) and frankly the picture quality wasn't good and at first i was disappointed. . However under blue iris it is a different story. Blue iris has the config file included for these and they integrated perfectly with only a click or two. Resolution both day and night under blue iris is very sharp, clear, and well-focused and i found no reason to change the default settings. The ir illumination is sufficient but seems a little weak compared to the bullet-style cameras i have in my system (but maybe i'm expecting too much from these rather smallish cameras in a dark outside location. ). . My only real complaint is the lens will not move more towards the horizon than the picture in the online store listing shows. I mounted one on a low roof overhang (no other mounting options, unfortunately) and although the cam works fine, i wish i could move the lens more towards 90 degrees from the mounting plane to better view the area i want to protect - as it is i see a lot more of the ground than i like. The camera/lens body moves around easily but there is a pin that stops the lens if trying to move it towards the horizon. I cut the plastic pin off but still couldn't move it much further because the lens assembly then bumps the circuit board, and i will probably replace it with a bullet cam in the future. If mounting the cam on a horizontal surface the cam needs to be elevated otherwise you will have a lot of ground in the picture. Not the cam's fault certainly but something to consider when planning your cam's placement. . There is a slot for a micro-sd card on the camera's mb but i didn't try it out and don't recall it being mentioned in the documentation. Just noting that it is there. Right next to it is the hard reset button if you forget your password or screw up the configuration. . Overall i am very satisfied with these and plan to add a few more around the house as the budget allows.

- . AndersonGreat camera for the price. Note that if you need / want 30 fps you can only use it as a 2mp (or less) camera so in my opinion for personal use there is no point of getting a much more expensive 4mp camera, also it takes too much space if recording in continue (3m has a max of 20 fps). Night vision is ok but not great though i do not have other cameras to compare it to, i find that ir mode is not good because if there is light around it will trigger all the time with bugs flying and rain. I turned off ir and use color vision at night it works much better, as long as there is enough light around.

Based on about 2 weeks worth of usage:. . The video quality is excellent. The night vision is pretty amazing. I love the fact that i can stick the nvr in an out of view corner in my basement but still view the video from the computer in our kitchen. You can even configure almost all of the settings from the computer. . I initially couldn't figure out how to remotely connect to the device (needed to use ie instead of edge) so i contacted amcrest's customer service. They were very helpful and responded in a reasonable amount of time. . My only complaint is that the user manual isn't really worth reading. It's basically just a book full of screen shots with short descriptions that don't help me understand the purpose or functions of the features. I can pretty much guess on just about everything so it's not that big of a deal, but when i do have questions, the manual isn't helpful.

Amcrest ProHD 1080P POE Power Over Ethernet IP Camera Pan/Tilt, Two-Way Audio, Optional Cloud Recording, Full HD 1920TVL 30FPS, Wide 90 Viewing Angle Night Vision IP2M-841EB Black

I searched a few before i bought this. I wanted a reasonable webcam to put in an owl box. This works great. I teamed it with a tp-link poe injector and a tp-link powerline network extender. I put my outdoor plug in a 10 x 10 pvc box, plugged in the powerline extender inside the house (to connect the ethernet wire from the router) and 1 in the box outside. I connected a small ethernet wire from that to the poe injector. I ran the wire in pvc from the poe injector 100 feet out the yard and up the pole to the camera. Pics are daylight view and night infrared view. The app works perfect on my iphone 6s. Can view it from anywhere.

- X. ColleenThe amcrest prohd 1080p poe is a solid camera for it's price point. The camera has a great picture and the motor for the motion is smooth and quiet. The install for the first unit can be a little challenging due to the sparse manual; i managed to integrate it with my synology dvr under 30 minutes. . This one is installed inverted on the ceiling and it provides full coverage for the large room. The orientation can be changed in the admin screen; remember it hit save! the admin tool also configures the motion detection periods. . I recommend you plan out the install before you permanently place the cameras. I got everything working locally in my office with a just the supplied amcrest applications. I then integrated them into my synology san unit which required a few installs. Finally i configured remote access manual since i don't use dnlp for security reasons. Once remote access via browser was working, i then played with several mobile apps including amcrest view (non-pro) which will meet most of your beeds. . With support for power over ethernet, a single ethernet cable will provide data and power for the device. If your network switch doesn't have the required poe injector, i would recommend the unit from texas wifi. I ran a single ethernet cable to a closet with access to power to support an 8-port switch and the injector. All of the cameras are wired back to this area keeping the install neat, out of the way, and easily expanded.

Great cameras. Excellent quality. We finally found a solution for our network baby monitors! we can now be over at a neighbor's house and still make sure our kids are sound asleep. (you don't even have to be connected to any wi-fi network, the amcrest app automatically port-forwards your network cameras to be viewed on your mobile device and works great even on a basic 4g sprint network! ) the best thing about these cameras is that there are dozens of 3rd-party apps that work with amcrest cameras. We purchased tiny cam pro app because we liked the feature it had to play sound from all cameras simultaneously, a must for baby monitors. The regular app is great, it looks nice and is easy to use. Occasionally, it takes a few moments to display all cameras right away when opening the app. But we haven't received any drop-outs or lag once the camera is loaded, a must for baby monitors. When we are downstairs in the office and the babies are napping, we can view/listen to the cameras on our desktop computers in any open web browser. The quality is fantastic even at 720p and we've found ourselves just grinning at how cute our babies are! . . The reason for not giving 5 stars we were having issues with the cameras not detecting the light correctly in dim/dark settings. The cameras would constantly switch between day and night vision modes. The good news is the amcrest community forums are excellent, and we found a temporary work-around for this until they fix this in a future firmware patch. You have to go into the camera's settings via web browser/ip address then set the shutter mode to manual and speed set to 1/30. This prevented the auto mode from trying to find the perfect shutter setting in low light conditions. . If you're like us and need a network baby monitor that works no matter where you are in the world, and are frustrated with wi-fi baby cameras that cannot provide the reliability of a hard-wired network camera, these are the cameras for you. Absolute peace of mind.

This is a great unit and works like a charm. Very easy to setup and use. Software and interface it uses is pretty decent and doesn't feel clunky or cheap. Easy to setup with a router to get multiple wifi cameras or wired cameras using ethernet cables. The only thing that could make this better is a built in rack for the hard drive with a simple fan, or multiple drives. As it is the hard drive just rests on the back plate held in by screws as most units do. Shouldn't be a problem if your using purple wd drives as the heat doesn't build up as much with those hard drives as others do which would cause the drive to potentially burn out by overheating.

Installed inside my house facing our back door which has glass in the top half. I was surprised to see how well the infrared on this camera works in the dark! the camera is about 10 feet from the back door and up by the ceiling. It can see outside through the glass very well and pick up my face when i look in the window, as well as animals that walk by the back door at night. Then in daylight the picture quality is very good as well. I've only had it for about a month now, but i'm very satisfied. Also, the build quality is very good; the housing and mounting unit are very sturdy. The only negative i could say about it, which doesn't affect me since i have it installed inside is the shield on the top of it. By loosening the screw on top, you can move the shield forward or back, and it is made to protect it from the elements, but it doesn't extend a whole lot past the front of the camera. Granted, though, you'll probably be installing it angled at least slightly if not a lot downward, so i doubt it would be an issue for many people.

Amcrest Outdoor Megapixel Bullet Security (ip4m 1026eb) FAQ.

I have two of these cameras installed at a remote off the grid location and they work well for remote monitoring of water tank levels and intrusion detection. If you thought about paying thousands of dollars for tank level alarms, just set up a simple float level and camera and check it twice a day. . If you are using linux, the live streaming video direct from camera won't work, because of a video licensing issue (this is common for all the inexpensive cameras), but it works fine from mac. The software in the cameras is not the greatest and mostly works, however, the best way to use these cameras is via the amcrest cloud service. That's what these cameras are really designed for and it's obvious the company spent most development resources on the cloud. You get one camera, with limited cloud data storage for free, additional cameras will trigger monthly fees, which don't seem unreasonable for what they are doing. These cameras are a lot cheaper and more reliable than hiring someone to drive around a property, it will definitely pay for itself in better security and labor savings. . Pro tip: to connect to the cloud, if the camera is connected to the internet, the first two hours, it will "phone home". You have a two hour window from power up to add the camera to your cloud account. If you miss that, power down the camera and restart it, it will "phone home" and you can add it from your phone or desktop amcrest cloud site for the next two hours. -Notice from P. Cunningham, Oregon

What can i say. Wow. The picture is amazing. The quality is outstanding. The field of view is huge at 128 degree. It covers the entire problem area of our property. I can practically see every blade of grass in the yard. For just over $100 i can't believe the quality of this picture. . Easy setup. Quick and painlessly connected into my blue iris system. I believe amcrest is going to become my staple for cameras. Quality, price, ease and reliability.

- U. ElidaOverall i am very happy with the camera. I have had one running for about a week with no issues, and i am about to install 7 more. The one big issue is with the description on online store as well as the manufactures web site. They say it has a 92 degree viewing angle, but the packaging says its 84 degrees.

These new 4mp prohds are really nice. I've been using amcrest cameras for the last couple of years and they are all really nice. The user interface for the old foscam cameras was always so clunky, but the interface for these new foscam cameras is really, really nice. These cameras are really easy to configure and they support chrome! the old activex controls for viewing live video just aren't useful when 90% of the world is using chrome these days. I can verify that the chrome plugin works great on these cameras! well done amcrest on another great camera! . . One final note. There are a couple of negative reviews on the "black" version of this camera. One review talked about camera reboots. I had this happen on an older model amcrest camera early last year and the amcrest support team was awesome and replaced the bad camera promptly. Turns out, it wasn't even their problem! i was using an aftermarket poe injector that was flaky. After amcrest changed out my camera and i still had the issue, i switched out the injector and all the problems went away! flaky power converters can definitely cause regular crashes! the other review about the cameras being counterfeit really seems like someone just trying to trash amcrest. These are really great cameras folks! you can't beat the quality for the price!

F.A.Q. for amcrest prohd outdoor 1080p poe bullet ip security camera - ip67 weatherproof, 1080p 1920 tvl , ip2m-842e black

Love this unit! recently installed one inside a dwelling for a client and most recently (today) two more, one under a covered porch and the other on the outside of a house. These are power over ethernet cameras that plug into a switch or router and are completely independent and do not require a dedicated recorder necessarily. You get 4 hours of free recording in the amcrest cloud and then it loops over. You also have the option to get emails, push alerts through the amcrest view pro app for motion detection and video tampering, downloading to a nas or through an ftp drive, built in night vision up to 100 feet as well plus many other options. . Basically the camera is physically mounted by unscrewing the top white ring above the word "amcrest" in the product photo there you have four screw holes to use provided phillips screws and drywall anchors if needed. Then feed your cable through hole in side of the structure or into a junction box if you're mounting it on a electrical junction box (a 2"x2" junction box works well for this. ) one side note here, if you are putting the cable through a structure or junction box for a clean, flush install you will need a 3/4 inch paddle bit. The ethernet end of the pigtail connector is significantly thick. A 3/4 inch hole fits the connector perfectly. . If you do not wire through a wall/ structure/ junction box, the 8" pigtail connector can be routed out from under that four screw base which has four slots to slip cable under. After you have mounted the four screw baseplate and have decided where you're routing the cable, the cameras has the middle section that you can see below the product image's word, amcrest. The camera sits in this and this is what is screwed in with ring that has "amcrest" printed on it. The camera can be tilted only manually, no motorized pan tilt zoom or one/ two way audio. . This camera can be powered via two methods: a 12 volt power supply right at the camera if you're fortunate enough for a convenient outlet near by. However most the time when in an attic or conduit, etc. This is not the case. Most often people will use poe or power over ethernet. Poe will input the correct voltage for the camera over the ethernet line you are running for the data/ router connection. This is extremely easy and just takes plugging your ethernet cable from camera into a "poe injector" or poe switch, both of which can be found here on online store and then from that particular device to the router then you're set! . . Overall this is a great camera and you get a lot of functionality from the webpage (gui) after finding the ip address through the provided software or your router webpage. These cameras are ip66 water and dust ingress protected and with the cast aluminum body these are not cheap feeling in the least. I love this model and brand of cameras and would definitely recommend them. . Disclaimer: i did not get a discount or free product in return for my honest review. I am just a nerd at heart! thanks!

This has a great picture and a very wide viewing angle! we bought it on sale to keep an eye on the kids playing in the backyard, and was the first of probably a few camera's we'll end up buying. The app connects in seconds and will you view a total of 4 cameras at once. Power for this comes from a 4-port, 48v, passive poe injector. It would have been great if the camera came with one, but unfortunately that was an additional expense. Because of the wide viewing angle and high resolution, you can zoom in digitally. You lose the detail, of course, but not so much that you can't see the image. This camera also has a ring of near-infrared lights around the lens. You can see them at night, but not near as brightly as they appear on camera or as bright as the image appears.

I currently have 3 of these dome cameras, 2 of which are being used and the 3rd about to go up. They are great cameras very clear. The infrared shoots a long distance. I have one at the front door and it lights up the whole area on camera and the other is just under the eve of my second story watching the back yard. The infrared on the back yard lights up the whole area i am monitoring and its easily 20+ feet in the air. These cameras should work with any d/nvr that follows the onvif standard. . Comes with a pattern to ensure you drill holes in the right spot before hanging. Base has 4 screws to connect to the wall and a clamping screw around the whole camera that holds it in place very well. The camera is kinda built to give a downward angle just like the picture. If you mount it and try to get a horizontal view the cable at the back of the camera will hit the edge of the mount. Be sure to mount the camera a little higher than what you want to monitor and you wont have a problem. . Great cameras, synced right away with my amcrest nvr which is poe so i didnt have to run any extra cables other than the cat6

This is a fantastic product. I have tried lots of different brands - very happy with this wired product. . Pros:. Outstanding picture clarity. Real-time preview. Easy to see past recordings. Excellent customer support. High quality cameras that can be adjusted to any viewing angle. Easy to preview live on pc, and monitor connected to nvr. . Cons:. Must use ie for computer access (no chrome or edge support). Android app is poor - way too many options and most don't work. Just show me 2 things: live preview and easy to access playback! . Nvr ui is not user friendly - you have to call support for pretty much everything. . I just went from wireless (flaky, unreliable, unstable) to wired. Wired is the way to go. . Fortunately they have excellent customer support. I am pretty sharp in the tech area, but with the poor nvr ui and manual, i had to call them several times to get everything figured out. . Using this with amcrest nv4108e-hs nvr, and amcrest 5-port poe+ switch: amps5e4p-at-58 (so i could run 1 cat 7 to garage). . Even with the cons. I highly recommend this product.

I'm really impressed with the video quality, ir lights / night vision range, and ease of setup. Don't get me wrong, running an ethernet cable through the attic in the middle of summer isn't fun. But i'm really glad i installed this camera. . I have added three images, the camera is about 40' away from an 18' diameter above ground pool. 1. The first picture is in bright daylight. 2. The second is at dusk but honestly looks like a black and white video stream in daylight. 3. The third is at night with the ir lights on. . I'm sure the picture with the ir lights on would be better if so much of it wasn't reflecting off of the house.

G. Eva, Northern Territory says

These are pretty easy to set up and the video quality is is good both in the day and night modes. . That said i will mention some observations:. There's a few different ways to go about the initial setup on these. Sure you can use a phone and that is one way to do it. I found the amcrest surveillance pro software to be my favorite way. You can also use the amcrest ip config software or the nvr interface if you are using the nvr. Having used them all i like the surv, pro sw best. One big reason is this. As some users mentioned one problem with the cameras is that if you lose power - not just to the cameras only but say to everything - including your router, they are subject to getting different addresses when everything comes back. This can be problematic. I decided to simplify my life in this area by switching my whole system over to static addresses. Once this is done i think the power outages will have less impact (they happen here with annoying frequency). I found making these configuration to be easiest using the surv pro sw. . I think this resolution is a good balance between good video quality and network performance. Sure you can get better resolutions but with ip cameras that comes at the cost of more traffic and higher bandwidth needs. Now i have 6 of my 9 cameras run poe directly into a switch connected directly into my nvr so most of the traffic on mine is not going over my wifi network. And the 3 wifi cameras i have of the same resolution perform well too. And i find this resolution fine for my needs. . Now for the physical side - you have to be careful how you mount the base relative to where you want to aim the camera because the screw channels can interfere with the camera's ability to point downward. The base has 4 screws and if you have one of those in line with the downward tilt of the camera you will not have the full range of motion and will not be able to tilt it down very far. You want that cable on the back side of the camera to roll up centered between those screw channels. Otherwise the camera will not tilt down very far into that little semi-circular notch in the bracket. I noticed this after having to undo and remount the first one i mounted because i was not paying attention to this detail. And one of the ones i got was so tight in the base i had to put a strap wrench on it to unscrew it from the baseplate to allow me to mount it. A machine must have screwed that thing together. Once you get past these small details they are easy to mount. I love the poe - so much easier to deal with than the old style. It is why i have waited until now to install a system. On the whole i've been happy with these so far.

. Powell, Alabama

I bought 2 of these 3mp cameras along with the amcrest nvr. What i really like about them is that all of the guts of the camera are completely sealed in the "ball" with the lens. You adjust the entire ball rather than take off a dome and adjust the lens where the camera is looking. The lens are also separated from the ir leds so there is no issue with nighttime washout or ir reflection back into the camera. Not the most powerful leds but sufficient for the task; makes be believe these leds will live a nice long life. I will be ordering more of these cameras once i get my security layout finalized. Price wise, these cameras give a much bigger bang for the buck and that works for me.

U. April, Lorraine says

This camera is a great addition to my home monitoring setup. It was very easy to install (using the template provided to locate & drill holes), and when i plugged it into my trendnet poe switch it immediately powered up and i was able to configure it and set it up with my network & security system. It works without a hitch with blue iris, which is what i use to manage all my ip cameras (and the same can be said for all of the amcrest ip cameras i've tried & use). The field of view on this camera is spectacular - i have it semi-inside, it's mounted above the entry door in my 2-car garage, and it's able to cover the entire garage plus get a good view of anyone entering or exiting any of the entry doors. Because of its location, i'm not using it where range is an issue, but for the range in question ( 20ft) the picture is great - more than good enough to recognize a face, read a license plate, etc. It's fully and easily adjustable, which is nice when you're up on a ladder with cell phone in one hand (looking at the camera view) and using the other to aim the camera. The only feature this one is missing is a vandal-proof dome - if they'd had that on this camera i'd have another one of these surveilling the driveway outside. But that's a very minor nitpick - for my needs this camera is perfect, and i would recommend it without reservation.

I. Ross, City of Bristol

I have three of these and all have performed great with no issues. Two are outdoors under eaves and one is inside the garage. The cameras that are outdoors do get exposed to rare rain when strong wind blows it at an angle and this has not caused any issues. We also had some extremely humid weather for several days and this did not cause any issues either. . These cameras are smaller than i expected. I went from old foscam bullet cameras that were larger than a soda can. The old foscam cameras had a few rows of infrared leds so i expected this amcrest camera with one row to not have as good of night vision. However, this was not the case. This camera does just fine after dark. Seems like the led technology has improved. . The firmware used with these cameras is quite good and much more polished than foscam cameras. Amcrest also offers free surveillance software that works quite well. I believe amcrest purchased my favorite surveillance software blue iris and it may have been the base code for their program (this is just speculation). However, the amcrest program is much more basic than blue iris and i believe it will only work with amcrest cameras. All of this is fine with me since it is free, works well, and i really like amcrest cameras. I have used amcrest cameras and software for others and it is working flawlessly. . All this would not make for five stars if the picture was not good, and it certainly is. I know there are higher resolution cameras, but 1080p is just fine for most uses. I mostly view my camera remotely, so that feed is not 1080p and it looks good. I am amazed at the video when i view it from the computer running blue iris. I think it would be hard to find a better camera for the price.

Y. Carolyn, South Dakota says

I bought this to monitor my front door. It works very well. It has a web interface to configure everything. If you point it to an ftp server, you can have it record video. It even does motion detection recording right on the camera. I like the poe (power over ethernet) feature because it means i only have to run one network wire to the camera for power and network (when the other end is attached to a poe switch).

F. Theola, Bolton

I've been using high-end panasonic ptz security cameras around our home for more than 10 years. The panasonics cost about $800 each when new. They were great in their time, but resolution is 640x480 and low-light sensitivity is limited. . I decided to get some new cameras for our retirement home, but could not afford to spend nearly as much money this time around. My 30 year-old son recommended this amcrest camera. I got one to monitor the front door, to see who is there and to keep an eye on the online store package deliveries when we're away. . This camera has great sharpness, resolution and low-light sensitivity. The poe makes it easy to set up since only one cable needs to be run for both power and video. Because it is an ip network camera, there are many flexible viewing options from desktop computers, laptops and many types of portable phones. It can record sharp video and still photos to a local hard drive or to a remote network drive or to the "cloud". It can send you alerts when something moves in the field of view to let you check remotely to see who is at the door. . Basic camera setup is pretty easy. Step-by-step instructions guide you through. . Setting up for remote access using a pc is complicated. It helps if you have some experience with internet protocols. I had to get help from amcrest phone support. It took about 10-15 mins before i connected with a technician, but tina was very knowledgeable and customer-friendly. Using the teamview remote access software (downloaded from amcrest. Com) tina worked quickly through a bunch of screens and got remote access running through the amcrestview. Com interface. . All in all, i'm very happy and impressed with this camera. It has a fixed field of view, but for keeping an eye on the doorway, that's all i need for now.

. Shawna, Northamptonshire says

This amcrest camera turned out to be a good bang for the buck. Installation was easy, and it works well with blue iris software. I've used logitech, vivotek, trendnet, and other cameras, and even if the amcrest isn't the best of the bunch, it is certainly the best value for the money.

. Allen, Nevada

I had purchased an off brand system and my installer advised me to check on an amcrest system instead. Easy set up and good product support. The picture quality is perfect and using a mobile device to view system is really easy.

Q. Bertie, Manchester says

I am buying a series of these cameras to upgrade an older analog system with zoneminder. They are fantastic replacements for my old analog setup; not too large, easy to install and set up (hardware and software - though i'm technical so i may not be the best person to judge), and so far they are working beautifully. . A few things i've noted:. . The ring can be tough to tighten and loosen. A piece of rubber in your hand can help grip to get it loose the first time. I took another reviewer's idea and put a little grease on the threads and worked them back and forth - a lot - and that seemed to help. You'll want to do this because fighting with that ring while you're up on a ladder or reaching up on the ceiling isn't fun. . One flaw is that the back of the camera (where the cable comes out) maintains the spherical shape of the camera. What this means is that when you mount the base, you need to take into account where the cord sticks out of the camera based on where you want to position it, because there are some positions you can't reach with the camera as the cord hits one of the four mounting points inside the base. You'll know what i'm talking about after you open it up if i'm not being clear enough. The solution is to figure out which way you plan to aim the camera and be sure to mount the base such that the opposite direction from that aiming point is between two of the mount points inside the bracket. I've had better cameras which allow for "infinite" adjustment once mounted, but that is definitely not the case here. . I like that the software forces you to change the password as soon as you set up the camera. This is a good practice and will go a long way toward preventing devices like these from becoming hacked or part of iot botnets, provided these cameras don't have hard-coded root credentials that we're not aware of and are accessible through a firewall. . As i mentioned, these cameras work nicely with zoneminder, and having poe is awesome. I put poe switches on either end of the house so i don' have to run wires nearly as far, and running cat5e is so much easier than dealing with those combined av/power wires on the analog cameras. If you go poe be sure to buy plenum rated full copper cable. Don't use cca cable; it's risky with poe applications. I read on the box that these cameras draw up to 4. 4 watts (i think); i have yet to see them draw that much even with ir on, but i'm only using 720p, a fairly low frame rate, and i turned off the sub stream, etc. So maybe i'm saving some power that way. . Image quality is great (coming from analog, though, i know there's a huge wow factor, like when you got your first hdtv and saw your first ota high def broadcast. There's a bit of fisheye effect toward the edges, but i really like having the wide field of view.

. Joanne, Swindon says

The product seems sturdy and quality built. Comes with a dongle containing both a cat5 connection and ac adapter connection. I only used the cat5 since i was using it for poe, and taped over the power plug. Also comes with a little sleeve thing to cover the connection of the cat5 cable. This sleeve is about 3/4" diameter, i was able to fit it through the hole i drilled with a spade bit in my soffit. Also comes with four mounting screws, however i used different ones of a bit higher quality. The camera is fully adjustable, the ball can be moved in any direction and the "holder" for it also spins around. Picture quality and color are good, however the night vision seems lacking. I'm not sure it actually makes the full 98 foot claim, but i also haven't exactly measured it. See the pics and judge for yourself (screenshots from the amcrest view android app). . As i said, i set it up poe with an amcrest nvr and it works perfectly. Was just plug n play into the nvr. Then i was able to view the live cam footage on my phone through the amcrest app which is nice. I believe this camera can also be connected directly to a router for live streaming, however you wouldn't get the extra features or recording capability of an nvr. . My only real complaint is mounting the thing. There are zero instructions provided in the quick start guide in regards to physically mounting the thing to a surface, and i also was unable to find an actual manual (besides the quick start guide) on the amcrest website. The quick start guide is very detailed in the use of the cam's features though. Anyway, i planned to mount the camera on the underside of my vinyl soffit but of course that's impossible to do with the ball in the way of the mounting screw holes. So i figured the ring that holds the ball in comes off. Nope, it just spins around forever. Some of the metal inside the ring actually ground off just by the spinning and force i put on it trying to disassemble it. Turns out, you can just apply downward pressure on the ball from the top (mounting location) and the ball will pop right out. Would have been nice to know that before spending half an hour trying to unscrew the thing. But even then, you'll want a long screwdriver bit to be able to get the screws in because since the ring is still in the way you're kind of screwing in at an angle. . It screwed into my vinyl soffit just fine with stainless steel 3/4" screws. Feels secure enough with no real solid backing behind it. Once the ring was mounted, i drilled a 3/4" diameter hole through the center to feed the cable up in to. There are also 4 little notches if you wish to run the cable out the side of the base. Once everything was in place, i pressed the ball back up in to the ring and it popped back in place. Hasn't fallen yet. . One other thing i noticed while testing it indoors is that the top of the camera ball gets very hot. It kind of makes me nervous having it outside in the sun and heat, but we will see what happens.

Camera worked better then expected. Easy to set up, works with 3rd party app i have too.

K. Candy, Nordrhein-Westfalen says

Great camera product. This product works exactly as expected with little pre-configuration. Wires are hidden in the mount, so they cannot be tampered with once the camera is mounted. Image quality is good and infra-red lighting is great. Good feature set on the camera software and easy to setup. . This camera has plenty of options available. It's onvif compatible, so it works with a number of applications other than being limited to the amcrest application. You can even turn off the p2p streaming to the cloud services and use it as a local ip camera. . It is a poe (power over ethernet) camera, so don't purchase this unless you have a plan for getting power to the camera either via a poe switch, or poe injectors. This model is not wifi, but requires an ethernet (network) cable for the network connection. I use the hardwired setup to a poe switch and it works great. . This camera does not include audio so don't expect that, or ptz (pan tilt zoom) but it was exactly as i expected for an outdoor, poe, non-ptz, non-audio camera, in fact it exceeded my performance expectations. . Again, lots of settings, so it can function as a standalone camera or as part of a multi-camera system running blue iris software or other ip camera application. Very pleased with this camera model and the included feature set.

L. Isabel, Vermont

Easy hardware setup run one cat5 cable to the camera for connectivity and power. To make the network connect more weather proof i used dielectric gel and heat shrink tubing over the rj45 connector. The software (amcrest surveillance pro) took a little bit to figure out recording and alarm area. I purchased a tp-link gigabit poe injector adapter (tl-poe150s) to power camera because my 24 port 1000gb switch is not a poe enable switch. Since we have fiber and centurylink wireless boxes i pulled out the old coax and used the same hole to bring the cat5 cable into the house. A couple weeks after the install caught a couple kids trying to break into my vehicles around midnight. The motion alarm sounded off and by the time i got to the door and they were in the neighbor's driveway. Chased for a couple blocks came back and sent photos to the police department.

I'm very satisfied with this product. It installed easily through a powered connection to my home network. I used pc software called blue iris to interact with the camera (video recording, photo snapshots, trigger on events). The camera views a large room and had the sensitivity to trigger on small movements at the far end of the room. Night vision was a good feature. I'm happy with this purchase.

i bought this camera to monitor my driveway and most of the front of my house. I have it mounted right over my driveway and the wide angle is perfect for this setup. I think the angle is a little wider than the advertised 93 degrees, which is a good thing. I also have another one mounted over the deck in the rear of my house. The camera is white so it's inconspicuous as well. This camera is true 1080p and nearly matches the clarity of the ip3m and ip4m cameras, which i have also tested. Mounting it can be a little tricky until you understand how it should be positioned. You have to pay extra attention to where the wire is positioned as you tighten the ring. Although tricky, the mounting style allows for some fairly flexible angles since the camera is basically a ball. You can twist and turn it how you see fit. . The only thing i don't particularly care for is that it has a fairly large rj45 connector that must be positioned outside of the camera. This would be fine for an in-wall installation but i ended up running my cables under my siding and the size of the connector made it pretty difficult. Keep in mind that if you plan on running the cables into your house that you will be required to drill a fairly large hole into your house in order to fit the connector through. To be fair, it's not really possible to make the connector much smaller than it is but i think it would have been a good option to have the ability to plug an rj45 connector directly into the back of the camera. This would eliminate the need for the larger connector and allow you to drill a much smaller hole. There certainly would be enough room on the back of this camera to do this. The infrared performance is good. The light distribution isn't completely even but that's nearly impossible to find at this price point, especially with the clarity of this camera. Overall, i'm happy with it and i personally think this poe dome camera has the best bang for your buck.

Tried this camera out for the price. Works fine with blueiris. One thing i did notice, is the camera randomly disconnecting, which isn't a deal breaker since it reconnects right away. Blueiris logs show the disconnect but then it comes right back up. I also use rstp streaming via vlc. That is where i discovered the disconnects. . Additional information:. Here is what i used for the rstp streaming url: rtsp://username:password cameraip:80/cam/realmonitor? channel 1&subtype 1

I recently decided to install a surveilance system in my home. I decided to buy a synology diskstation as the nvr and then buy other branded quality cameras to finish up the system. I previously had installed a poe 24v switch that runs two ubiquiti access points in my home. I thouhgt, "hey i've already got the plugs and power so just add them to the switch and i'll be good. " right? wrong. I plugged in the camera and nothing happened. I did some digging and this particular camera apparently uses a 48v poe system. Luckily my "wifitexas" poe product had the capability to run dual power types. I ordered a new 48v power supply and will know more if this solves the problem on monday. As for the product it looks well made, has some heft and looks good. I'm going to install one first and see how the video quality looks then i might add more later.

R. Terry, Nova Scotia says

The cons:. . Right off the bat, the quick start guide in the box only covers setting the camera up to talk to your network and the mobile app. It doesn't mention physical installation or mounting at all, which i think is a pretty major oversight. Installation is simple, but it's non-obvious if you've never done it before. I had to search online (the user guide on amcrest's website also doesn't have much info, but i was able to find a good youtube video that amcrest had published). Amcrest should really include install instructions in the box, or at least put a note directing people to the youtube video. I'm both fairly handy and tech saavy and it had me scratching my head so i imagine less tech saavy customers being totally lost. . The video feed requires a special plugin on your computer (boo), and the plugin doesn't appear to work with chrome. Offering a product that isn't compatible with the most popular web browser in the world seems like a questionable business strategy, but at least the plugin does work with firefox, so i was able to use that as a workaround. . I did notice that the plugin for viewing video in a web browser did crash a few times, but it's simple enough to refresh the page to get it going again, however, if it is your intent to leave the video feed open in a browser for an extended period of time this may be problematic for you. . This camera uses a pigtail for external connections (power / network). The pigtail is about 12" long and is permanently attached to the camera. The downside to using a pigtail is that if you want to do an "in wall" install (where the cable runs inside the wall / ceiling) is that you have to drill a much larger hole to allow the pigtail to fit through the hole. Not necessarily an issue if the camera never moves, but if you ever take the camera down you'll be left with a rather large ( 3/4") hole in your wall which is much harder to patch than a smaller hole for a single cat5 cable. . The mounting system is designed such that the camera is supposed to be able to move horizontally/vertically in order to aim it, but there are four plastic pieces where the mounting screws go that interfere with the pigtail coming out of the back of the camera so in some circumstances it's very difficult / impossible to point the camera exactly where you want it. . The pros:. . Aesthetically, the camera looks very nice. It's very low profile and unobtrusive. Once mounted, it gives me the impression that it's very secure and will be a "set it and forget it" solution. . Once you understand the install process and the nuances / caveats that go with it, it's very simple. It took me about 30 minutes to install the first camera and subsequent cameras only took about 10 minutes. . Overall, the camera seems to be high quality. It feels sturdy and does not have that "cheap, made in china" feel to it that many lower cost cameras have. . The web interface for the camera is fairly intuitive and easy to use (other than plugin issues mentioned above). All of the usual options (flip/rotate image, change resolution, change frame rate, etc are present). . I'm using these cameras with zoneminder dvr software and they work as expected, no compatibility issues. . Image quality seems to be good (not great - some motion blur, hdr washout, etc) and the night-time ir functionality is much better than the cameras i replaced. . The final thoughts:. . Amcrest can do better on their out of box experience. It would be nice if the cameras had native browser support without requiring buggy or unsupported plugins, but this isn't a show stopper. The mounting system can be a little challenging at first but once you understand the nuances it works fine. Video quality is good, as expected at this price point. All in all, all of my complaints will only be issues on day 1 during installation, after that i'll never deal with them so they're not a big deal to me. I would buy this again.

S. Anonymous, Brandenburg

I had a little difficulty setting it up but i called customer service and they answered right away and were very friendly and helpful. (my problems were the password on the app defaults to "admin" then when you are logged in they ask you to change the password. But it was blank so i started out thinking they wanted me to create a password. I didn't know i was supposed to put admin in there at first. Maybe that was in the instructions which i didn't read and they will probably change that to a better system after i write this so read your instructions before you use the app). App works great, cloud works great, the actual camera is very well made. Other things i didn't get is i couldn't connect the camera by wifi to see it on the amcrest website, called customer service, they said try the ethernet cord that is provided and that worked. Also i thought it would record 4 hours to the cloud for free and then over-ride the four hours and start again. But no, they provide one 4 hour block of free cloud service just so you can test out the cloud service and see if it works. You can't have any actual cloud service without paying starting at $6 a month. Which is not that expensive. So i bought it. And it works beautifully. I bought this camera for home security and the beauty of it is that if a scoundrel steals the camera, ha, it's too late they are already in the cloud! . This camera was the perfect solution to my security problems and i highly recommend it. All the problems i had were just little glitches setting it up but the camera, the app, the cloud service, customer service are all 5 stars. Once it is set up you can easily move it, say from the front porch to the family room if you want it to watch a pet for the day then easily put it back on the porch for nighttime security.

Disadvantage and Critical reviews

B. Sharon, Stockport says

I have purchased several (good) cameras from amcrest, so when i saw this i was quick to pick one up. First thing to say is that this camera is quite a bit bigger than their other ptz cameras in the same class. I was a bit surprised by the size (see picture), but the fit and finish are just fine. Just be ready for this one to not be as "stealthy" as it smaller cousins. . But size is not really the issue. The problem is with how the camera zoom and auto-focus work. For some inexplicable reason, the camera constantly will zoom and refocus on it's own without any input from the user. There are several settings in the camera setup, but none of them seem to fix this issue. And i've searched for updated firmware, but so far no luck. The picture quality is good, with nice colors and sharpness, and the ptz controls are responsive. It also works very well with blue iris so no issues there. The other quite disturbing problem with this camera, is the noises it makes. When you pan/zoom/tilt the camera, it will make a quite audible high pitched whining sound, that continues to raise in pitch almost to the point where you think it might "pop" or burn out. . I'm still deciding whether to return this camera or not. But hopefully this information will help others who are on the fence about it. I would stay clear if i were you. -. . Update 8/2/17: i was able to update the camera to the new firmware and the autofocus issues have gone away. Overall, its a decent camera. But i think i will continue to purchase the smaller (non-zooming) ptz's as they are a better fit for my needs.

N. Julie, South Tyneside

Camera is great. Software is very lackluster, disjointed, and disappointing. If you plan to get this camera, plan to spend an extra $30 for software like blue iris or a 3rd party cam software. . Let me prefix my review by saying im a software engineer of 10+ years. I am not new to computer or uis. The camera was easy to get installed with poe, detected on my network and has good field of vision as well as color. Night vision is also acceptable on this camera. The night vision ir lights give off a low red dim glow. I assumed they would be invisible and not visible to the naked eye. They are only detectable standing within 10 feet of camera and looking head on. . The problem with this camera comes to the software. There are many ways to access the camera and configure it: desktop software, local webpage, cloud webpage, cloud app, amcrest app. The problem is, each piece of this software is not consistent with the others. The local webpage has a comprehensive suite of tools and so far seems to work the best. The problem with the webpage is that it requires a plugin and only works on ie (you can read the support forums where others have experienced the nightware only to be blown off by tech support). Some functions work in some software but they dont work in others. For example, email seems to work when set up through the local webpage, but not through desktop software. Motion detection is comprehensive through local webpage and desktop software, but configuration is useless through the apps. Upgrading to latest desktop software causes the pc-dvr to completely stop working. So in order to achieve a piece of functionality, its basically a long trial and error process using a combination of the apps to figure out what works and what doesnt. When you try to refer to the manual, you find very little actual help. Most of the labels in the software are generic and have no associated help or description so its trial and error trying to figure out which check box does what. It it obvious this documentation was written by the person who wrote the software. You can tell there is very little end user testing or feedback incorporated into the applications. This leads every complaint to be met with "call tech support" in order to try to work through the problem, and tech support will want to remote into your computer and try to diagnose the issue. No thanks. If they had spent proper time designing and testing the software, 99% of these issues and breakages would be gone. My biggest fear is when a new flaw develops and i am forced to upgrade my firmware, that it will either break my camera or screw up the software in which i will have to do the setup process all again. Its a no win with these cameras. . The cloud functionality is tied into the cloud services amcrest provides. The free tier is for 1 camera and only for motion detect events for the last 4 hours, not the last 4 hours of events captured. Its good for trying out the service but not much useful unless you check the app every 4 hours before events get wiped from cloud. . I currently use this camera to record 24-7 to a backup hard drive in my main computer. . I would personally recommend you skip this camera, and probably skip amcrest as a whole as their software is not ready for prime time.

D. Hayward, Aquitaine says

The hardware works well, once you get everything configured. But configuring is a long, confusing task. The software is ok - however, viewing in the browser doesn't work with any modern browsers . Back to ie :(

J. Colleen, Oklahoma

The cable was shorter than it was described, but the system is easy to instal and use. Thanks!

E. Josephine, Kent says

I purchased three of these cameras to upgrade from an outdated analog system. . I set up the cameras via an amcrest nvr which was very simple to do. . Once installed and operating, the camera performs very well. The video is bright with good colors in all lighting even at dawn and dusk. If you mount the camera near a night light you will get a good color image at night. In pitch black darkness the ir's kick in for a very good black and white picture. . Except for the following faults i would give it five stars for performance:. . 1. The camera must be disassembled to mount it which would be fine if one could get it apart. The metal ring on two cameras was completely seized up and would not unscrew. Two large pipe wrenches might have opened the camera but i didn't want to scratch and dent a brand new device under warranty. So, i made a fixture with a scrap of wood and two nails locked in a vise to hold the base solidly so i could turn the ring with both hands. With much back and forth twisting i finally got the rings to unscrew. I put a small amount of lithium grease on the threads and screwed the rings back on and off several times then the rings seemed to work ok. The threads on the rings are very rough and make a grating sound when rotating the ring. . 2. After operating just fine the system rebooted per a scheduled reboot and i lost one camera with a message, "the account has been locked. " i worked on this for half a day and could not unlock the camera. So, i called amcrest tech support and was informed that the only recovery for this was to do a factory reset on the camera. This is where it went from slight aggravation to total absurdity. In order to reset this camera one must disassemble the camera, plug-in power to it and short two tiny pc board pads for 15 seconds with a paperclip. Amcrest has an instruction set with pictures showing how to do this. I think this is insane to expect non-technical consumers to perform this reset. I'm an engineer and i think it's crazy. Firstly, these cameras are meant to be mounted outdoors so one must get up on a ladder and bring the camera down. The screws holding the camera together are t10 torx-not a problem for me but the average person probably won't have a set of torx drivers. The camera is poe so to get power to it one must do a balancing act on a ladder or find a way to plug it in directly to the poe source. My poe network switch is on a high shelf in the garage so either way i must be on a ladder. If one slips with the paperclip it could well short something in the camera and render it useless. Amcrest needs to do better than this! . . I removed the scheduled weekly reboot hoping i won't have to reset the camera ever again. If resetting becomes a routine activity i will install a push button on the camera. A foscam camera i purchased a while ago had a pigtail with a reset button. Amcrest, which was foscam, should have continued this implementation.

W. Gladys, West Sussex

I bought 9 of them for a project and it was working fine. One of the cameras starts to go wild. . First, i lost the video signal and i have to power-cycle it in order to get it back on. Then, it disappeared from the network, and reboot for it to come back on. However, after couple times, it's completed dead and no longer detected on the network. Then we tested the ethernet cable with other cameras and it working totally fine. . I like amcrest cameras, but they need to do a better job for qc.

A. Cassella, Gateshead says

I didn't realize this was a black and white camera. Other than that it's an okay camera. The image is good enough at close distances and the ir helps at night. My driveway is about 18 feet long and you could probably tell who someone was if they were standing at the end. I bought a different amcrest poe camera for the other side of the house that works much better. I wouldn't recommend this camera over their other ones. Spend the extra 10 dollars or whatever and go for something better.

C. Cortney, Hillingdon

I can only view it from the amcrest apps and ie (shouldn't even exist anymore). I have an insteon hub and the app that i have several foscam ip cameras connected to, but i can't connect the amcrest. I use the owlr app with the same foscam ip cams i use for the hub, but can't connect to the amcrest cam. Kind of annoying. . The camera itself works fine and has decent features, but the lack of flexible viewing options is quite annoying.

O. Maria, Oklahoma says

Motion sensing is sporadic and notifications to my phone are lagging. . Easy setup though and good live viewing via the app. But i really wanted a motion sensor that worked. . Update: motion sensor works better after moving under overhang where rain can't cause a false alarm. Also moves camera closer to the location of the motion. Upgrading from 2 to 3 stars. Still a lag in motion alarms sent using both amcrest cloud and amcrest view.

Z. McCarthy, New Mexico

Just be aware that this particular 4ch nvr being sold as a bundle with this kit "will be under-powered" if you want to run you 1. 3mp cameras at full 960p resolution. You cannot even run one camera at 960p resolution without seeing the results effecting this nvr. Amcrest simply should have sold 1mp camera's with this unit. Maybe some people may feel i'm just being picky, but felt i should have been able to operate this system with the camera's at their native resolution. Their marketing material makes it sound like it can do more than it actual can. . What was happening? the clock on camera 4 would skip ahead every 2 seconds. This resulted in any motion capture look "really jerky". However, playing back any recordings from "all four" cameras skipped ahead every 2 seconds! but, this never would happen on the android app. I however am using a 24" color monitor and cannot live with this jerky motion. The only way to resolve this issue complete is to lower the camera's resolution from 960p to 720p. Not 1 camera, or 2, or even 3, but all 4 cameras have to be turned down. . Aside from this issue, everything else went well. The images looked sharp and clear. Installing, connecting and using the android app was a snap! wished i could say i was impressed with amcrest customer service, but i cannot, i kinda of have a bad taste in my mouth on this one. But hey, overall i liked the system enough that i just sent this system back and got the amcrest system with the more powerful nvr, and i can differently tell the difference.

I. Carmen, Suffolk says

Not the best camera (especially in low light) but it gets the job done at an affordable price point. I've using it with blue iris and it's been a solid performer.

Y. Pearce, Southampton

So far i like the potential of the cameras. What i do not like is the ip conflicts it created on my network so bad that it locks other ports on my router. Changed router to a smarter router and that helped 90% but it was still dropping connectivity on my wireless devices and nas drive. The cameras designed for the nvr should work flawlessly but i am having problems getting all 4 cameras to come up everytime. If i reboot the nvr, the cameras are certain to get out of sorts. The auto detect has never worked. I hope this is a bad nvr that is causing havoc but my instinct tell me that this setup is very diy and lack some sophistication we expect in 2018. As a hobby, i may get it working better. I am reaching out to their 2nd level tech support and hope to hear a miracle fix but odds are we get half my concerns corrected or replaced but i am sensing the system is not going to be as stable and reliable as i hoped. I will update this the tech support continues.

U. Cindy, Alabama says

Camera quality is excellent. Software is pretty good outside of having to use ie to view the cameras on the web. For the price, there should be a secondary slot to add a secondary harddrive for a mirror raid configuration. Having only one harddrive scares me in the scenario where it were to fail.

V. Sally, Essex

Good quality, solid camera. I do seem to have issues with it freezing up if i use it in the 1080p mode though. It works for me since my nvr is 720p.

G. Miller, Florida says

Camera and nvr hardware works great. Camera exactly as expected, and works great at night. 5 stars for that. I am disappointed with the software, and the app on my mobile (android). I am struggling to see the video associated with motion detection alarms, for example.

K. Betty, Lancashire

I purchased the amcrest prohd outdoor 1080p poe dome ip camera in september 2016. It made a good addition to my home exterior security. . The image quality is pretty good day and night. The field of view is okay at about 93 degrees or so. . The user interface for setting-up the camera is much like the other amcrest cameras i have but the font they chose to use for the camera-displayed camera name looks like pixelated text from an old commodore 64. Not impressive. . Physically installing and positioning the camera is a bit of a pain. The metal screw-on collar can be difficult to turn and i found it to be awkward and challenging to get the camera positioned the way i wanted. . This camera has become one of the less reliable cameras of those i've added to my system. The camera goes offline, sometimes multiple times a day, and during that time it is not accessible. Usually it returns after a few minutes but sometimes i have to disconnect and then reconnect it from the poe network switch to get it to reboot.

F. Benton, Barking and Dagenham says

It s kind of bewildering shopping for security systems. I had no idea how many different technologies were available. There s everything from low rez old school tv lines to full hd 4mp cameras and higher. There are wired poe, analog, digital, hybrids and wifi systems. You really need to go to school before you pop for your system. I chose this one because of simplicity of wiring, relatively speaking, since it has the digital data and power in one cable. Also, i ve had enough nightmares trying to get wifi to work even for a very basic setup, let alone a bunch of cameras and a recorder. I'll start with the hardware. It came well packed and with a decent amount of cabling to wire up my small house with 4 cameras. The cameras are a bit larger than they look in the photos, but they do seem pretty sturdy, except for the connection between the swiveling neck and the base. Even with everything tightened down, there s a little play. Speaking of the base, the camera head can only swing up into a horizontal position through a slot in the neck of the base flange. Trouble is, that slot is perfectly aligned with one of the three screws you need to access to mount the base. If you swing the camera out of the way and mount the base solid, you better hope the camera is aimed in the proper direction since there s no lateral adjustment once it s tightened down. If you aim the camera and tighten the swivel ball beforehand, you can t access one of the three screws. It s a real dance to mount, aim and tighten the swivel screw. It s no reflection on this particular system, but running the cables can be a real pain. I had hoped to tie all four cameras into a poe switch so that only one cable from that switch needed to come into the house. The system was not finding the cameras after doing so and i finally found out through tech support that you can t use a switch with this system! i then had to re-route my cables with all four network cables poked through my livingroom floor and to my router. As for the nvr, it s basically a box for the 1tb hdd. There are no controls on the front at all. The interface it strictly via a crappy, two dollar mouse that s included. Moving on to the software, i ll open with the password. Choose the password carefully - you are going to enter it often and you can t easily change it. You need to balance security with ease of entry when selecting the password. Constantly entering the damn thing with a crude mouse on a lousy on-screen keyboard is painful. Switching between lower and upper case characters requires three clicks! the input is so bad you want to use two hands on the mouse to stabilize it. Fortunately i had a quality wireless usb mouse that helped some. It doesn t really get much better from here as the manual only covers the basic setup and settings. Most of the system features you will have to discover on your own with minimal assistance from google and youtube. For instance, the amcrest system default is to record everything, all the time at low resolution. It took me quite a while to find the settings and get the recording to trigger on motion only in hi-rez. Then you still have to set up zones to trigger or omit recording and balance the threshold and sensitivity to avoid unwanted recording. Good luck figuring out how to prevent recording insects, raindrops, spider webs and blowing foliage while snagging that guy who steals your ups stuff off the porch. I can t imagine how many email alerts i would get daily if i had them enabled. Amcrest gives you no starting point for the settings, only a hard to understand plain english explanation of threshold and sensitivity. It s trial and error. Mostly the latter. I finally have mine setup to trigger on motion, which works sort of ok, but when i go to playback, which has it s own challenges, finding a particular event is tedious. A timeline is shown across the bottom of the screen for the past day by default, and motion events are depicted in yellow bars. Very, very faint yellow bars. The playback automatically starts at midnight and fast forward takes forever to happen. You can try to move ahead in time by clicking the timeline with your crappy mouse, but it seems like you must hit a target of one square pixel to do that. The timestamp travels along the timeline with the cursor but it s almost impossible to see since the contrast is non-existent. There is a button called smart search, but i can t make it find anything. I could rattle on about the details but long story short - the software is unintuitive and not well implemented. With all that negative stuff said, i still find some value in the product. Might be because i have no other experience to start from, but the amcrest hardware still impresses me at times. The hd cameras do a decent job with the 2mp they have, even when zoomed in. The night vision is pretty cool and reaches well out. All in all, i think i can make the thing work for me in light of my simple needs and despite it s shortcomings. It is that fact that kept me from lowering my rating to two stars. You may notice that there is no runaway favorite brand or single product in this category, so good luck to you in finding your security system. I hope this helps.

L. Emily, Prince Edward Island

I am very pleased with this camera. The picture is great. The reason for the 3 stars is do to when i received the camera i noticed the lens or front had a gap on one side. I unscrewed it and it was cross threaded on. I didn't feel like dealing with sending it back so i took a small file and filed down some of the bad parts on the thread so it would sit as it should. I have had the camera stop recording a few times as well. This was fixed by scheduling a nightly reboot. Still over all i am happy with the product and plan on buying the a whole nvr setup soon. I just hope the quality control for it is a little better.

Q. Paula, Alsace says

Overall, the system worked as advertised. I'm have an issue with one camera that i think might need to be replaced. I haven't had time to address it with the holidays. Will reach out to support & update this after seeing how they respond. . I do have some regrets not going to a higher resolution camera. The hd is good, but i've been playing with 4k with significant success. Just couldn't justify the increased cost of 4k yet.

. Kimberly, Washington

I purchased this camera in order to extend an existing installation. Unfortunately, it was not easily integrated with our existing nvr.

P. Susana, Birmingham says

The camera built quality is good. The reason i gave 2 stars is due to its poor night vision capability. The infrared led are not spreading ir light uniformly across field of coverage. Instead ir leds creating a bright spot in the center of the frame. With this the center point of the screen is over lit and surrounding objects are low lit. I have amcrest bullet cameras (ip2m-853ew) where this problem is not persist.

R. Monique, Hawaii

Easy to install and set up (note, as correctly described, this unit does not come with a power supply). . The app works well, the setup of the camera has a lot of options, down to email sending, etc. . What i'd like to have. + upload to google drive (email, ftp only). + more ddns settings (only limited list of services). . What i'd need for it to receive more stars. + ssl certificate installation. + updated firmware (cipher list is outdated, firefox bails, chrome complains)

T. Diana, City of Bristol says

Camera seems to work pretty good, but the instructions and software are greatly lacking. I am fairly computer literate, but it took me several tries to get everything right. It was just a pain, and i still need to call customer service with my issue.

. Ruff, Midi-Pyrenees

This was a good camera, unfortunately there was a couple of minor shortcomings that forced me to return it. . Pros:. - camera was easy to setup. - excellent video quality. - email photo, record etc. . Cons:. - amcrest surveillance pro software is horrific. I couldnt get the nvr feature to even work. Called support several times, got one call to explain the issue, never called back. - the one above wouldn't have been a dealbreaker if this camera integrated with any other ip camera nvr/monitoring software. I tried ispy and xprotect. Xprotect couldnt even connect to it and ispy just lagged out the camera on connection. . Save yourself the hassle and get hikvision cameras, bought four and they work like a charm

H. Isabel, Tower Hamlets says

Works quite well and is reliable. However, it would have given if 5 stars if the amcrest app would work properly. Not once has it connected to the stupid app. Quite frustrating.

M. Whiteman, Salford

Good picture and works well with blue iris. Quit responding after 6 weeks though. Problem turned out to be corrosion on the contacts with the ethernet wire. It's working again after a good cleaning on both the wire and the contacts but i expect it will fail again.
