Review for kindle voyage ereader highresolution

Price was $199.99. I am an avid reader who swore he would never give up physical books, especially novels. My wife received a paperwhite for christmas last year, which made me curious because of its low-light performance but still was too awkward to handle. I've been using the voyage since christmas (thanks mom) and all of that has now been fixed. Other than periodicals (favorites being wsj and popular mechanics) and heirloom hardback series, i don't expect to ever buy another physical book. The voyage is amazing to handle with fantastic performance in pitch black rooms and sunny outdoors alike. It is, hands-down, the best reading device mankind has ever known. I challenge you to read a 350 page novel for three hours with one hand using any other device, including a physical book. I'm talking pick it up, find your place, and turn pages all with one hand. Nothing comes close to the voyage. Well played kindle, well played.

The kindle voyage is significantly smaller, thiner, and lighter than kindle paperwhite. It's very comfortable when holding in hand. The page turn buttons make it much easier to turn pages and the vibration feedback feels terrific. Texts are more sharper than ever - its ppi is even higher than ipad. Kindle Voyage E-reader, 6 High-resolution Display 300 Ppi With Adaptive Built-in Light, Pagepress Sensors, Wi-fi Review (53 002418)

I have owned ebooks since long before they were popular and have owned several different brands including the rocket, several generations of sony's and almost every type of kindle, over the years. Like others, i wasn't sure i wanted to spend the money to upgrade from my paperwhite when the voyager was first offered on online store. Then, my daughter lost her kindle and couldn't afford to buy a new one, so i gave her my paperwhite and ordered the voyager within a few weeks of it being introduced. Frankly, while the improvements seem minimal, i find the voyager to be a great improvement over any of the other ebooks i have owned. . Screen:. I find the text to be clearer than the paperwhite, and the lighting of the screen to be superior. I haven't had any issues with different lighting colors as others have reported. The adaptive brightness appears to work well, but i prefer to manually adjust it myself. I like bright screens so the text is crisp in comparison, and the adaptive settings leave the screen too dark for me. The text is crisp and clean, very easy to read. You can read outside in bright sunlight with no bothersome glare, or in a totally dark room with the visually comfortable backlighting on the screen. . Page turning:. This is my favorite improvement. I read fast and the page turning speed on the new voyager is able to keep up with me. I frequently experienced a lag with my paperwhite. Also, i love the ability to turn pages with a touch on the bezel. I find it to be intuitive and have had little to no problem accidentally turning pages. Even in the dark, the page turning area is large enough to find, extending more than a inch along the bezel. . Cover:. The new origami cover is a nice change from the ones available from online store for the paperwhite. I frequently eat alone (my husband often travels for business), and i like the fact that it stands up nicely on the table, freeing my hands for eating. The book wakes up quickly when opening the cover, and it inconspicuously folds out of the way for reading. . Overall, i love the voyager. I've had it more than a year now with no problems or malfunctions. The voyager is lightweight, compact, and durable (i have dropped it numerous times with no ill effects). When i have time (like when on a plane), i will read several books in a day and have found the battery life is better than on previous kindle versions. It is not cheap, but i think if you enjoy reading as much as i do, you'll find the upgrade to be worth it. -W. Noguera

PROS
  • The only other e-reader i've had before this one was a nook. It was whichever version came out before the one that introduced the backlight to it. Shortly after, online store introduced the paperwhite, and i have wanted one ever since. Now that i finally have a full-time job and am a graduate student, i can afford a kindle. I ordered the voyage even though i wasn't sure between this one and the paperwhite. . The main reason i went with the voyage was because it is thinner, to be honest. Although that's not something worth $80 extra, i read other comments that say the display is much clearer than that of a paperwhite. This shouldn't be true since they both now have the hr display (300 ppi), but i can't confirm it since i have never had a paperwhite. What i can say is that the current paperwhite version is not the first. . That said, i love the voyage. I actually didn't want to wait over the weekend and receive it on tuesday/wednesday through prime, so i went and bought it at bestbuy, the only retailer i know that sells online store products. I picked it up together with the origami cover ($40 in bestbuy, i believe that's cheaper than through online store itself). I instantly fell in love with it! comparing it to the older version of the nook, it is definitely much clearer, the text can be adjusted. It is way faster than i expected it given that it is an e-ink device. The response time is fairly good. Pretty much everything can be customizable in terms of reading from font size to vibration levels when you use the page turn feature. The lighting is amazing. It definitely reads better than a book. You can also link it to goodreads, facebook, and twitter. You can lend out books between friends, and they don't necessarily need to have a kindle; they can use the kindle app. I love the idea of a kindle because you can read practically anywhere, it's much smaller than i thought, and the battery lasts forever! . . Now something more controversial. I love books and would never stop purchasing them. I bought the kindle because sometimes i need fast access to books for my graduate courses, and some of those books, i know i will never need a physical copy of. Online store has a large collection of kindle books fairly cheap. As an example, i am doing research on hagiography. I looked up books, which are hard enough to find on their own, and i found kindle versions for about $8 (this is actually expensive for a kindle book) compared to the $20 print version that i know i will probably never use again. When would i want to refer to a book about saints? and if that's the case, i can access it on any kindle-enabled device. I only buy books from authors i would like to support, such as chuck palahniuk, nicholas sparks, george r. R. Martin, or other ny times best sellers that i know will have some sort of impact in the literary world. . I included a picture of it next to my macbook air 11 inch and an xbox one controller for scale. It actually looks smaller in person.
  • I love reading and have been wanted to get kindle for quite some time. When i received the news on kindle voyage release, i was so excited and pre-ordered immediately. . What i like about voyage:. - light weight. - very clear text and really like prints on paper. - long battery life that i don't have to charge every night. - able to push personal documents and read from kindle. . But i am really disappointed on the yellow tint issue on the top part of screen (see attached photo), i think as a premium product from online store, this kind of issue should not happen at all. As the issue occurs only when lighting condition is dimmed, and many reviewers said the replacement unit may end up worse, so i just ignore it and so far it doesn't distract too much on my reading. However, seriously online store should look into this issue. . Many commented the adaptive lighting function not working, but i find it working fine, and in fact i like that function a lot since it helps me adjust the brightness based on my surrounding lighting condition. . The page turn seems awkward to use for start, and my hand started to cramp after long use. But i discovered that if i place my thumb vertically on it, where upper part of thumb press for page up and bottom part of thumb press for page down, the using experience is then greatly improved. They should provide a guide on this in their manual for people to know how to use it efficiently/correctly. . I got mine a wifi version without special offers, but i will suggest those who want to purchase, get the one with special offer and save your money, they only appear on "sleep" screen which will not affect your reading.

CONS
  • I just returned a kindle voyage received today, and asked for a replacement, because shockingly it has a very yellow screen, with yellow lighting unevenly spread out over the screen. I compared it with my kindle paperwhite gen 2, which is even more white and sharp screen than the voyage by which is far more expensive (see attached photo! ). . Recently i also ordered a kindle oasis for myself, another one previously ordered for my son as a gift. While the quality of my son's oasis is "luckily" great (very white and sharp screen), the one i received was terribly yellow, with several black dots on the screen. I returned it and reordered again, same problem and actually even worst-the screen very yellow, simply i could not justify such a high price and premium product claim with a sloppy product. Really not sure why voted by "oprah's favourite things" as one of her favourites. Customers must judge by their own eyes and not swayed easily by promotional claim! when you google search more about the overall criticisms of oasis especially, you may have more objective opinion about it, since many including myself experienced the same poor product quality experience. . After returned kindle oasis twice, i tried to order kindle voyage to move to another option, hoping for a better white and sharp screen, if not extremely better than the oasis (by which it claims to be very white and sharp screen), at least it should beat my kindle paperwhite gen 2. Not the case, actually, so i just requested for a replacement. The cs of kindle team assured me that they will send me a truly white and sharp screen one this time. But i don't have high hope for that, since many wrote in the reviews that even replacements got the same problems again. With her amazingly great and kind service, i agreed and hope that they will deliver what they promised because this is the third time i experienced kindle's poor quality problems, both with their 2 top lines. . Now i am really concerned about kindle's quality and start to lose trust and confidence about their qc. How can such a customer-centric company on earth sends sloppy, non-qc products to customers like this, while commanding such high prices. While online store should not spend so much time on just raising kindles' prices to premium levels, they should be more concerned about truly raising quality standards to premium levels to justify the outrageous prices they command. I recently bought kobo aura one too, bigger screen size. Yes, they are not good with their pdf reading and highlighting features, but i must say it is a very good ereader option, apart from kindle. But their ebooks are of less choices and far overpriced than online store's, which are certainly the trade-offs and downsides. But at least, another great choice beyond online store nowadays, since online store focuses more and more on raising prices of their kindles rather than taking good care of their quality like in their past.
  • After my experience i felt a review was justified to help others and reinforce what a large amount consumers are experiencing as well. I'll make this simple and to the point:. . 1. It is an expensive device for the sole purpose of being an e reader nothing more. 2. I experienced screen defects from slightly damage glass, pixel dust to pinkish hue on the top. Very distracting. I had to return my device 3 times on top of the 3 returns for paper white model. What i discovered is there are some variations. And because of this i would purchased locally if you can. Perhaps manufacturing issues are at fault and been addressed or it is trade off from the lack of quality control. Really don't know but all i can give you is my experience. 3. Compared to paper white, the voyage is better. Illustrations are much more viewable and text is slightly crisp this paper white. 4. If holding with one hand turning pages with the haptic feedback buttons is a big plus. 5. The origami case is very good - sold separately. The main feature is the magnetic features to stage the kindle in place and turn it off. Note the case helped giving this a 3 star. 6. The auto brightness can be slow depending on the type of light. It is defiantly faster when coming from outside to indoors. But i notice when i transport from mixed flourence/incandescent to dark rooms with light leaking in it can take time to adjust. I noticed in this scenario level 9 brightness works for me with autobright off. Something that needs to worked out by online store. Especially at this price. 7. The ads are annoying. And to pay $20 extra to have them removed is just pure greed. However, i think some people like them. If they are on point with my interest, then i probably wouldn't mind. However, if you paid $199 with taxes and a case, you want kindle to become a personal device. It doesn't seem that way and feels as if online store still owns the device. You began to question online store logic here. My opinion is if you have a prime account ads should be an option to remove without charge. Because most prime account holders are avid purchasers so i don't think it would impact thier bottom line. . With all that said, as an e reader i like the voyage compared to the other readers. I give it 3 stars because i feel online store tries to express themselves as a quality driven company. And clearly a large amount of these devices are defective in the market. Some will notice these defects other will not. Of course online store will replace them but it's allot of effort and energy to do so. Which drove me to share my experience. We have a choice. That's your power and your right as a consumer. . If money is tight and you need a good e reader, buy a paper white and be prepared for the blotch screen on the bottom. Return it or exchange until you find the right one without these manufacture issues. They do exist. . If you have money to spare, then voyage is for you. But you may need to make a statement to online store that when the value of a product goes up our expectations go up as well. If you don't focus on the most important part (screen and customer experience) it will only be a negative in long run. . Good luck. . I hope this helps. . P. S. My voyage still has the slight pink hue on the top. It's not as bad as the previous ones. But it is there. All the stores models at best buy are not exhibiting this problem. I have also brought my returns to compare side by side in the same lighting. It is definitely not my vision ; )
  • I have been a dedicated kindle user for many years and read over 100 books per year. In november 2014 i purchased a kindle voyage after the page turn buttons on my original kindle stopped working. As it was 4 years old, i felt i had my money's worth. I loved the new kindle voyage, however after the automatic software update a few weeks ago, it stopped working. After multiple calls to technical support and customer service over a three week period, the only option i was given was to buy a new one as it was out of warranty. As the kindle worked fine prior to the software update, the price of the voyage is high for only getting 14 months use out of it.

kindle voyage ereader highresolution Kindle Voyage E-reader, 6" High-Resolution Display (300 ppi) with Adaptive Built-in Light, PagePress Sensors, Wi-Fi (Switch to Mobile/Desktop Version)

First of all let me state that i am an avid reader, at least a few hours each day, and it took me a long time to justify the cost of owning a dedicated ereader, more so with purchasing the most expensive one on the market. But, after a few years ereading, starting with the original ipad, then an ipad mini, then a kindle fire, i finally decided to take the plunge and buy a kindle, specifically the voyage with 3g. Why after so many years? i think the increase in resolution and the frustration with compromise during my many hours of reading made the choice ultimately an easy one. . In comparison to the kindle fire:. . It is smaller. I have the 7" hdx, and even that feels incredibly bulky next to the voyage. The resolution is so similar that the eye cannot really discern the difference (323 ppi for the fire vs 300 ppi for the voyage). My one complaint about the fire was that i generally hold the reader with my left hand, making a page turn a two handed evolution. The voyage corrected this shortfall with the pagepress sensors; i can't say enough about how this small change has drastically impacted my reading experience for the better. Another aspect that discouraged me from buying a dedicated ereader was the lack of color; i thought that books looked lifeless and bland. I wanted the cover to show the rich colors of a real book, and that is still lacking in the voyage, but the eink display feels so much more like reading an actual book it more than makes up for this shortfall. While reading, which is 99. 9% of the time, this is not even a factor. . Once the libraries began the digital lending the kindle was a must buy for me, hence the original fire. . Would i make this purchase again? without a doubt; it is my favorite tech purchase of all time and i would give up my phone and tablets before i gave up the voyage. Well done online store!

Kindle Voyage E-reader, 6 High-resolution Display 300 Ppi Adaptive Built-in Light, Pagepress Sensors, Wi-fi
Click to see NoticeReader High Resolution Display Adaptive Pagepress (53 002418)"If you're a dedicated reader and have a voracious appetite for good books then the upgrade to a kindle voyage is worth it and more! . . I was coming from a second generation kindle paperwhite which i loved, but the increased resolution, thinner and lighter design, high-quality construction, edge-to-edge glass, and ambient light sensor were all reasons i upgraded. Just further perfects the reading experience. The nightlight and ambient light sensor are very welcome additions so that i don't have to constantly adjust the brightness myself any longer. . One thing to note is the light sensor is in the upper left-hand corner of the frame on the voyage. Be careful to not cover this with a finger or thumb or you will notice your screen darken even in a bright environment. Can be a minor annoyance if you're not aware of this, but very easy to avoid once you know it's there. . I went with the wifi only, special offers version and unless you don't have broadband (and a wireless network) at your home or if you don't frequent businesses or establishments which also offer free wifi there is no reason to get the 3g version. With most tablets or phones being able to become hotspots these days you can always use your phone or tablet as a wifi hotspot if you need to download some new books in a pinch. Save yourself some money and forego the 3g model. Also, save yourself some initial money and go with the special offers version. If you get tired of the adds you can always pay online store a one-time fee down the road to get rid of them. I did this on my last kindle, but think i won't do it on this one. I actually like some of the offers and they're very unobtrusive. They only appear on the "sleep" screen and on the initial home screen. This is the way to do an ad-supported device right. . All-in-all i'm wicked satisfied with the voyage and if you're like me, you may own tablets, laptops, smart phones, etc. And i also still collect first edition hard-cover books, but for reading every day and ultimate portability nothing beats the pure reading experience like this kindle. Very little fatigue reading this in bed and i just love that it's such a simple and seamless experience. . Yes, it's way more money than any kindle before, but it's way more of a refined and high-quality product. The care is magnesium, the edge-to-edge glass is micro-etched to reduce glare. It's very "apple" like in its attention to detail, material quality, and design. Which i think is a huge compliment! online store has to be losing on every one they sell hoping to recoup through ebook sales because the engineering and material costs alone would be way more than just $199. It was expensive internals and materials. If you're on the fence, get this kindle! it's worth the upgrade and if you're a first-timer to the kindle family and a dedicated book enthusiast and reader you won't be disappointed."

I love kindles, and have owned a few since they came out, and have several and they just get better and better. This one is very small and light weight with very clean and sleek lines. One button and a charging port, thats it. Weighs 5. 56 ozs. A little more than my iphone 6s, but feels lighter, i suppose because it is larger in size. Not as dense feeling. Screen is very readable with a grey background and of course black letters, and the letters are as sharp and clear as the printing in any book. Really fine textured matte screen for less glare. So easy to hold and read. So small it will fit into my jeans back pocket, but definitely do not put it there. Just the pressure from bending over will crack the screen. Done that. I have read hundreds of books on my kindles, and they truly are one of the greatest things to come along in electronics. I still enjoy a paper book or real book occasionally but prefer the kindle for ease of reading, plus i can get a new book to read in a few minutes or try a sample of a book i think i might like before purchasing. -Notice from . I love the idea of a kindle however features that are supposed to work on the kindle with online store prime such as certain book loaning, don t. I contacted online store and after two months of sending them screenshots and doing anything suggested, they could not figure out the problem and gave no other suggestion other than too bad. It s really disappointing that they can t trouble shoot their own products and when they do and can t solve it the offer no other help. Extremely disappointed with online store as a whole after this issue. . After writing this post, i was contacted by an online store customer support rep who was able to quickly solve the problem. I am beyond satisfied with the product and would definitely recommend it.

- T. AmandaDon't be alarmed by the overall somewhat low rating: people need to read the product description of what they're buying. No, this isn't backlit. No, this isn't 3g. This is the standard basic kindle, it does what it's supposed to do and it's amazing at it. Super light and sleek, i got the white one and i'm in love with it. I do own an ipad so if i want to read in the dark i just use that or my cell phone (do use sepia mode and turn on night shift to spare your eyes a bit). I also know very well the differences between this one and the paperwhite because my mother owns one, and even comparing both, i would still go with this one. Great device, great resolution and great price (if you want to get rid of the special offers later on, just contact customer service and pay the difference, but they're really no bother). I'm extremely happy with my purchase!

Love the new kindle! priced right (with an extra $20 off! ), even smaller in my hands than the kindle with keyboard. I was sad to lose my old kindle, but this one is just terrific.

Kindle Paperwhite E-reader - Black, 6 High-Resolution Display 300 ppi Built-in Light, Wi-Fi - Includes Special Offers

Recently retired my well-used kindle keyboard for the paperwhite, as i was looking forward to getting one with a backlit screen. Overall, this is easily the best e-reader i've had the pleasure of using. It's just the right size (and feels less bulky than my keyboard), the interface is faster, the text more vibrant, and the adjustable backlight is exceptionally convenient for all lighting conditions. Here are a few thoughts for those that prefer lists:. . Lighting:. The good: the adjustable backlight on the paperwhite is great. Some reviewers have mentioned it being yellowish, but the unit purchased is a nice, blueish-white. While reading in bed, it can be dimmed enough to where it doesn't strain your eyes, though it does wash out the text slightly. I didn't think the backlight would be useful in the daytime, but it actually makes it much easier to read at max setting, which i was pleasantly surprised with. . The bad: there is a little bit of light bleeding from the bottom of my kindle. It's not terribly noticeable, but if you look closely enough you can see a little blotchy unevenness near the bottom. Not nearly enough of an issue at this price point worth complaining about. . The unit:. The good: love the design - more compact and sleek than the kindle keyboard it replaced. It fits easily in either hand without being too big or small. Perfect screen size. . The bad: i am mourning the loss of the page turning buttons from my keyboard. Anyone who owns a newer kindle would be lying if they said they've never accidentally turned the page by touching the screen. It can be a maddening experience. Plan on getting a case for your kindle, as the plastic on the front and rubbery texture on the back are oil magnets and will suck any grease off the cleanest of hands, and it's obnoxiously hard to clean. I never had this issue with my keyboard. Minor complaint about having the "kindle" namesake on the front of the unit not embossed in white. Looks a bit cheaper than the last gen in that regard. Power on/off button is obscenely tiny and very hard to activate - buy a cover that turns it on/off automatically. . Battery/charge:. The battery doesn't last as long as my keyboard's did, but it is still exceptionally strong even with heavy backlight usage. I have well over 3/4 of the battery reading for a few hours each day over the course of a week. It seems to charge for about the same duration as my keyboard and i assume the backlighting eats up the battery a bit, but not enough to where it has been problematic yet. I find it frustrating that they only include a short usb charger. I don't appreciate upselling of charger plug ins. . Interface:. The good: love the bookshelf view showing the covers (if you don't, you can put it back into list view like older models). Touch interface and changes from the keyboard model took me a little white to get used to, but it is all fairly intuitive and much quicker than the model it is replacing. I absolutely refuse to tie my twitter/facebook account to my kindle, but love the option of doing it for my good reads account - good call on that, Newer features that let you learn more about people, places, and events in books has been great (i'm looking at you game of thrones). Love the feature that tells you how much additional time you have in a chapter. Makes it easier to know if can squeeze one more in before bed. Same goes for word wise, which will put brief descriptions/similes of complex words above the word in question. You can set the threshold - awesome. . The bad: collections show a generic book image, rather than a collage of the books within like i expected. Minor complaint. I bought a kindle touch for my mom awhile back and have had to work with her quite a bit, as its her first e-reader. She struggled with the interface and is still learning how to get the most out of it. I know it's a cost-saving measure, but i really resent a kindle copy of the user guide instead of the traditional paper insert. Minimalism has its place, but not here. The filter 'buttons' on the screen are annoyingly hard to press (maybe i have fat fingers? ), but feedback is exceptional everywhere else. . Ad vs no ad:. Ultimately, it's going to come down to your preference. Many people have found good discounts on things they'd buy on online store or other ebooks (it uses your recommendations). If they were only on the "off" screen when not in use, i wouldn't have ponied up the extra $20 to remove them because my cover hides it when not in use, but the ad banner at the bottom of the home screen put me over the edge. I want to point out - i've read online store doesn't allow you to use gift cards to pay for the ad removal (it requires '1-touch payment'), so if you don't think you want the ads and you have a gift card - buy the version without ads. I believe it applied $20 of a promotional credit i had on my account, however. . Prime household sharing:. The good: if you're an online store prime member and have added a second adult to your 'household', you can share select (or all) of your kindle libraries with one another for free. I didn't see this advertised much, but it was an awesome way for my mom and i to share our books with each other. . The bad: it's horrific to set up. Once you've activated your household, you need to go to manage your content, flip "books" to on (for both parties, and manually select which titles you want to share. Then you need to go to "manage your device" and ensure the little box for "share my content" is selected. I believe both people need to do this, but once you do, you'll be able to access your family member's books in the cloud after dropping down the filter to "shared". It will take quite awhile for it to process if you have a large library, but once you get it set up, you can click and download any of your family member's books. I just wish it wasn't such a royal pain to set up. . For most people, i'd suggest buying the one with no ads and saving $20 for books (or a library subscription. I borrow 90% of my books, it's awesome). If you hate the ads, pay to remove them - no sense in paying more if you can live with it in the first place. . All in all, this is an exceptional machine for the price and any negatives i can find are easily forgivable given how many great things there are. Online store prime members can also download one book from a very large selection per month for free, with no return dates, as well as download one free new release with online store first - something i found out through a lot of digging on online store's website. These features should be a little clearer. My mom loves her kindle touch, but after buying myself the paperwhite, i wish i'd coughed up a little extra and got her the paperwhite. The backlit screen and increased clarity of the e-ink is exceptional for all reading conditions. Should you upgrade? if you own a kindle without a backlight or a a keyboard/older model - 110%. The interface is faster and the screen clarity significantly better. The biggest complaint i have is for kindle keyboard users who are used to the manual page turner buttons are out of luck (unless they opt for the voyage, i believe) - i sincerely wish they'd bring that feature back. . Tl; dr? if you love reading, treat yourself or a loved one and buy a kindle paperwhite. It's worth every penny.

Kindle Paperwhite 6 Inch 4gb Ereader (b00oqvzdjm) FAQ.

I've only had this thing for about 5 days, however i am absolutely in love with it. I've never been one to read much on my iphone or ipad, i just didn't like the way it felt and looked. I work in a school district so i have the summers off and i have been doing a lot of reading this summer so i asked for a kindle for my birthday hoping that i would be able to get the same satisfaction out of the e-reader as a book. I wanted it to feel like i was reading a book rather than looking at a screen. I didn't want it to be too heavy that it made my hand tired to hold it, and i wanted to be able to lay on my side in bed and read it, which was always annoying with a regular book because there was no good way to hold it without my hand getting tired. It fits all my criteria. When the brightness is off, it is as if i am looking at a piece of paper straight out of a book. However, when i am reading in bed in the dark, i can easily turn the brightness up and don't have to worry about getting a book light or having a lamp on. It is very light weight, i haven't made my hand tired yet holding the kindle and i've read about 6 books in the last 5 days, so basically my eyes have been glued to it. It's easy to connect to wifi and just as easy to download books. It is small enough to fit in my purse but is big enough to feel like i'm not reading on a tiny screen. I seriously can't think of anything i don't like about it. -Notice from B. Rita, Newfoundland and Labrador

I love my new paper white kindle. I was using a 5-year old kindle fire. The fire, at 409 grams, is twice the weight of the paper white. My wrist was starting to hurt from reading the fire at night. My wrist feels so much better with the new paper white. Also, i had to charge the fire nearly every other day. I have charged the paper white twice since i've owned it. And lastly, i couldn't read outside with the fire. No problem with the paper white. . Of course with both readers i can read i the dark by the light of the e-reader and i have downloaded several books for 0. 99$ to 1. 99$.

- H. WaytI am an avid reader. I resisted getting a kindle for years because i felt it would ruin the book reading experience. I also figured that i could just use the kindle app on my tablet when i wanted an e reader. I was so wrong. The batteries for down too quickly using the tablet. The battery on here lasts for weeks! so much lighter and more portable than traveling with a ton of books. I love it so much that i have two now. One that i keep by my bed and the other in my purse. So i don't have to worry about forgetting to bring it (i'm am obsessive reader). It automatically syncs your progress from one device to the other. I highly recommend that if you read even one book a week, that you get kindle unlimited. For only $10 a month you have an endless world of books at your disposal. So worth the money. I read a minimum of three books a week. It has saved me a ton of money already.

I love my kindles. I have had two basic readers with the keyboard under the screen. When my last reader died, i was just going to get another. I liked the buttons at the side to move through the pages, i like the size of that kindle, i love the fact that i could read in bright sunlight, but then i saw the paperwhite with the built-in light and thought maybe it was time to trade up. . When my latest kindle with keyboard died, i began using my kindle fire for reading. It works. It has a nice, big screen, but it's heavy to be reading in bed with - like the difference between a hard-bound book and a paperback - and because it's a tablet rather than a reader, it eats up that battery life much, much faster. Oh yeah, and the lit screen also lit up the bedroom. . This reader is smaller than the original kindle and it has a smaller screen, but, it is also lighter and it has that built-in light. I haven't had it out in the sunshine, but it is advertised to have a clear, readable screen even in bright sunlight and i'm sure it does. The pages turn easily with a touch at the edge of the screen, and the function menu drops down from the top of the screen. I haven't really played with it much to see what i else i can do other than pick a book and read it, but it seems to have all the bells and whistles necessary, and then some. It came with a half-charged battery. I've been using it for a week and i haven't noticed that available battery indicator move. . For those who compare the $120 spent on a kindle paperwhite with the price of a book - don't. I have a kindle library with hundreds of books in it. A paperback will cost you between $7. 00 and $13. 00. It doesn't take a math genius to figure out how many books it would take to meet the price of a kindle paperwhite. For me that's about 4-6 weeks of reading material, so i guess you can say that i read for free for the rest of the life of the kindle paperwhite. And, you can carry all those books with you when you travel in this one little, light-weight, reader. . I'm a fan and will buy another when this one dies, i'm sure. Now i just have to buy it a jacket.

Protective Cover Kindle Voyage, Royal

I like a cover for my kindle because i carry it around in my purse or backpack. The cover is trim and lightweight . Because it is magnetic, it was easy to put the device into it and to turn it on or off by opening or closing the cover. I am not entirely sold on the origami/folding part. I am still wresting around with it to get it to stand properly and i have found it difficult to use the page turning feature on the side edge of the voyage while it is upright.

Honestly after reading the reviews, i was hesitant to purchase this case for several reasons. However, i honestly don't mind that the cover flips from the top, and i actually use the origami feature quite often. I really like that the case is magnetic as well, so when you flip the cover over it sticks to the back leaving it in one piece instead of dealing with a cover that flaps or moves the kindle fits perfectly in there and it doesn't come out very easily. I honestly haven't had any issues with the case, and i think i prefer that it flips from the top instead of to the side like a book would.

- W. SarahSuch a we'll designed cover. Light, sturdy, it sits at the perfect angle for reading when open, and offers excellent protection for the voyage when closed. Highly recommended.

I enjoy this cover. It is sturdy and works well. At first i did not like the origami folding aspect to it. It was difficult to find a decent holding position with it folded. After a bit i got used to the folding mechanism and found my proper hand hold and i have to say, this case is fantastic! . . It is lightweight. The magnets are strong and the flap stays open and closed easily. It does not add any bulk to my kindle. The material lends itself to easy cleaning and the color has stayed super vibrant on both the synthetic vinyl side and on the cloth interior. . My one issue with this case is that my kindle can fall out of the case if it is jarred with the case open. Be careful of that! other than that, this case is perfect to fit in my purse, on the train, on a plane, in the car, at work, wherever you need to go! . . Definitely get it!

Kindle Voyage Leather Origami Case, Red

This is my 6th kindle purchase. I was hesitant to purchase this cover because of early reviews, but i really like it. I find it to be much more versatile than the cover for my paperwhite. The only thing i would like better would be if it was more textured like the paperwhite leather cover, but perhaps the texture would limit the ability to fold the oragami cover when needed. I think it is overpriced, but still a great functioning cover.

Kindle Voyage Leather Origami Case, Red (53 002201) FAQ.

The origami cover is a great design and seems to be holding up reasonably well (after just a couple weeks, admittedly). It does have a design flaw, however. There is a power button pass-through on the back of the cover. In theory, this would allow for use of the voyage's built-in power button without having to remove the cover. Unfortunately, this pass-through is completely useless. The only time you can touch the power button is when the cover is not completely open, in which case it is much faster to use the front of the cover to turn the device on or off. . The cover provides a decent amount of protection to the voyage. It would be of limited value in a drop situation, but for tossing the voyage in a backpack for travel, this cover is great. I appreciate that i can still connect the usb with the cover on and that the voyage still fits in my front pocket with the cover on. I also like that it relies on magnets to affix the voyage in the cover, rather than clips or straps. I suspect the hinge lines will be the only point of failure over time. . I gave it 4/5 because the price is awfully steep for such a simple thing and because the power-button pass-through is a useless feature the way they have implemented it. To be useful, the pass-through must work through both layers of the cover, so that you can toggle the power without flipping the cover closed. -Notice from N. Bullock, Rotherham

I bought a cover for my voyage because i am rough on my readers and tablets. After some use, i finally put it aside because of the weight it adds. I have a problem holding the reader. The cover does prop it up nicely, but i find that because i am restless and like to sprawl when reading, it is more convenient for me to hold my reader by hand most of the time. Every ounce makes this more fatiguing, so i decided to set the cover aside and risk dirtying and damaging my reader. So far, i am quite happy with the arrangement. That said, the cover does an excellent job for which it is designed. If others find they need a cover to protect their reader and to prop it up for them, the online store cover does an excellent job.

- . DelgadoThis case works well, and i love the fact that the cover on this case serves as a built-stand when you fold the bottom third of the cover in a certain way. The only minor issue is that the cover needs to be folded in a certain way to form the stand, and about half of the time i have to fiddle with it to fold it correctly. Of course, that just my be a problem with my own spacial capabilities.

What a great case! i bought this as a gift for my husband, forgetting i had already bought him one! opps. So i ended up keeping it, and i love it. Prior to this i had a standard case where you just flipped it open. I absolutely love how this case has the option to prop itself up. I have severe arthritis and it is really easy on the hands compared to a normal case.

All-New Kindle Oasis E-reader - 7 High-Resolution Display 300 ppi , Waterproof, Built-In Audible, 32 GB, Wi-Fi + Free Cellular Connectivity

The metal case is very well made and feels great in the hand. Having the battery be a single internal unit (as opposed to a second battery in the case like the previous version) is a plus. The waterproofing appears to work well. Overall, pleasing to hold and look at and use. . The cover is a great disappointment; it s not securely attached at all when folded open behind the kindle. This means that if you leave the device on a flat surface with the cover folded under it, the natural way to pick up the kindle is to span its width in a thumb-and-fingers gradp; the slightest grip force causes the magnetic cover to slide off the smooth back of the reader. Picking a device up in the most obvious way shouldn t cause it to come apart. . Otherwise it s a great unit, but it s pretty expensive for what you get.

All New Kindle Oasis Reader Built (53 006390) FAQ.

I have a paperwhite and a voyage and i love them both. When the 2016 oasis was introduced, i studied it, but the mandatory cover and several reviews made me wait. When i saw that a new oasis was being released this month, i read the specs and knew i had to have it. The audible capability wasn t important to me; i prefer to listen on my phone. Waterproof isn t a big deal for me either, since i don t read near water; but it s nice knowing that a little rain won t kill it. So i pre-ordered the 32gb. More storage, more books! i selected wi-fi only; if i m going to be away from home, i download more books than i can possibly read in one trip. I also selected with special offers ; i ll remove it later if it starts to annoy me. I did not purchase a cover, because i usually remove them and they end up in the bottom of a drawer. I did purchase a no-glare screen protector, which i installed as soon i opened the box. Now for why i just love my new oasis:. *right out of the box, it was so easy to set up! as soon as i entered my wi-fi password, it connected immediately, greeted me by name, and promptly showed my library. *the screen is more responsive. When i enter my password, there is no lag time; it responds as quickly as my phone & tablets do. *the screen size is perfect! and i don t even notice any lights; it looks like a paper page. And the page turn is immediate! . *i love the feel of it in my hand. Some reviewers mentioned sharp edges, discomfort, can t hold for too long, too heavy. I notice none of those things. I usually hold in my right hand and it fits perfectly! the side rests comfortably across my hand, with my thumb resting along the edge. On the back, where the thicker portion meets the thin, it curves slightly inward, where my fingertips are completely at home. With both my paperwhite and voyage, i constantly shift the device as my hand tires. Not so with this oasis! i read for hours at a time and don t tire. And when i do switch it to my left hand, it s instant and seamless, no waiting for the page to adjust. *the page turn buttons. Some reviews said that the buttons are too loud. Really? ! when i read those comments, i had to check mine. It s a tiny click, not loud at all (mostly felt, rather than heard)! the default setting is page forward on top, page back on the bottom. I left mine at that setting since it works for me. And, if you switch to the opposite hand, those settings stay the same. *some reviewers are unhappy with the metal back, it s too slick, too slippery, too cold. Again, i notice none of those things. It feels substantial, certainly classier than plastic. *i love the new font sizes, and the ability to make them bolder, as well as the capability to switch to white print on black background. I set my oasis to auto brightness, then adjusted it down to 8. The print on the page is so vivid! . *so far, the battery life is great! i ve been reading for four days now, several hours per day, and it still has about half a battery remaining. This initial charge may not be indicative of true battery life, since part of it was used in the setting up and downloading, but i m satisfied with it. Now for what i don t like about it:. . Can t think of a single thing! . This is definitely a keeper for me! if anything comes up that changes my opinion or reinforces my opinion, i ll update my review. I've been using the 300 dpi paperwhite for over two years and decided to spoil myself with the new 32 gb wifi kindle oasis e-reader. I'm an avid reader with over 500 books just on . The kindle oasis arrived well-packaged in an attractive sealed black box. The first thing i noticed was the sleek glassy surface and thin asymmetrical aluminum construction. Unfortunately, while the oasis is lighter, the larger size makes it awkward to carry or slip in a pocket. The first thing i did was to buy a moko case to avoid dropping and trashing my expensive new toy. The smaller paperwhite sports a rubberized exterior providing a far more secure grip. . The oasis already had a half charge on it so it was good to go right out of the box. But there is no charger! let me repeat that-my $300 ultra-luxury e-reader came without the standard ten dollar charger, only a short usb cord. . It took five minutes to link up to my wifi and online store account, adjust the local time and resurrect my library. The only instructions are on the device itself, but it's a no-brainer. Online store had a software update available that only took a few minutes to download and reboot. . The display on the oasis has a slightly creamy tone when compared to the bright white paperwhite. The oasis display is perfectly even across the entire screen; the paperwhite has a very slight "shadow" at the bottom. The 7-inch screen is significantly larger than the 6-inch paperwhite screen. I examined the typeface through a loupe and the letters themselves appear identical on both devices. . I bought my oasis with the "special offers, " but i quickly found them annoying. I removed the special offers by linking to my on-line online store account and coughing up an additional $20. . Reading is a joy on the new oasis. The larger screen and physical page-turn buttons allow you to read one handed and avoid the usual screen taps. The software is almost identical on both devices, though the oasis allows you to (finally! ) access audio books though bluetooth. I couldn't get my earbuds to link, but bluetooth is kinda touchy and i'll try it on other stuff, especially my car. . One huge improvement is that the oasis is waterproof! this is key for me as i read even while soaking in the tub (tmi). The paperwhite hates even a droplet of water. One workaround for the paperwhite is the tough meritcase waterproof case, though it makes screen operation a bit clunky. . In conclusion:. . Both the 300 dpi paperwhite and new kindle oasis are terrific e-readers. If you have some "stupid money" to throw around, the oasis is the rolls royce of the e-reader world, sporting an elegant waterproof construction and bluetooth connectivity. But for normal folks, the 300 dpi paperwhite is an excellent purchase, nearly as good with some superior features at a fraction of the price. I'm dinging the oasis one star for the over-the-top price tag, mediocre battery life and not including a charger.

- N. MaryI love the size and overall use of the oasis. I do not think the stand -up cover is like the voyage, much less usable. I also am not seeing the books remove from the device when i ask to do so with a selection. Overall i am glad i purchased the new kindle oasis.

Fast page turns. Perfect, larger screen. Super light. Waterproof. My sole complaint is the meta case is slippery and harder to grasp than the plastic/rubber backed kindles. But i found a simple solution. Add a no slip safety square used to prevent slips in the shower. Like this one: it even has a very similar transparent and gray, as you see in the photo. It allows a great grip and even stays on when it gets wet at the beach or pool.

Kindle Voyage Leather Origami Case, Black

I'm a big fan of kindle. A grand or two worth of books a year, and most of them are for my kindles. And yes, the the voyage is my current choice. So when i looked about for a cover, i was stunned there really wasn't anything other than the online store provided product. Yes, this is heavy. No, it doesn't feel like leather, quality leather anyway. Yes, it's probably some shaved off the hide, plastic-covered leather product that might once have been labeled "bonded. " and sure, i wish there had been something else. But the "genuine leather product, " ebbing up there at $89 is too much to spend for a protective piece of bling, so this is it. . It turns on when you open it-that's nice. It doesn't slip around-that's good too. And try as i did to find a used one, i finally bit the bird and bought what i needed-something to protect my investment while it rocked around inside of my backpack or briefcase. I'm pleased. . Look, i'm an author with a half-dozen books here on online store and elsewhere. And i appreciate the thought that more folks are buying e-books than paper nowadays. So i'm over it, as my ancestors got over the end of papyrus rolls, the roman codex and hand-painted copies of whatever book they were reading. You will too. In the meantime, while you're suffering through the thought that your e-book reader simply doesn't feel like "a real book, " get a real book cover. Buy this one, if you've already bought a voyage. Don't bother with someone's knock-off, ribbon-holding, voyage wrap. You'll be glad you did. . You'll love the way it opens and props-up at a busy restaurant. And the weight, in time, isn't a big deal at all.

Kindle Voyage Leather Origami Case, Black (53 002066) FAQ.

-Notice from . Donna, Luton

Update 12/25/17: even though i have since purchased the new oasis model kindles (both of them, go figure), i still continue to use my voyage for reading when i'm eating alone in a restaurant and want to prop up the kindle for reading at the table. This leather origami case is my favorite kindle case, and it makes my voyage the kindle i still prefer to use for reading while sitting at a table. The leather origami case has worn very well and shows few signs of age or wear even though i've now used it for over 3 years at this point. . Summary:. -. . Pros:. . - high quality materials and appearance. - built-in 'origami' stand provides very solid support when reading. - easy to install and remove kindle from the cover. - activates the kindle 'auto-on' or 'auto-off' when opened or closed. - slim - does not add significant bulk to the voyage. . Cons:. . - expensive. - some users may prefer the 'book' style cover rather than the top-hinged origami design. - because the charger plugs into the kindle at the bottom, the cover cannot be used to support the kindle for reading at the same time it is plugged in to be recharged, a minor inconvenience. . Overall: for my usage, i consider this to be a terrific cover, attractive and i expect it to be durable, and very cleverly designed to hold the kindle while still easily removable. The 'origami' stand is easy to use and works very well. . Added comment 2/17/15: after using this cover for several months, i like it a lot. I'm used to the folding feature and like how it props up the device, and i don't miss the style of my previous paperwhite cover that opened book-like. I will say this, though - the voyage is held in the cover by magnets, and it will slip from the cover fairly easily. I've dropped it a few times (with the cover open) and had the cover come completely off. It is a very sharp looking cover, the quality is very high, and i think it provides very good protection when closed. I'm completely satisfied with it. I would purchase it again. . Detailed review:. -. . Appearance. . To begin with, this is a very different design in a couple of ways from any other case i've owned previously. . First, unlike many cases for kindle readers and other tablet-like devices, the base of this 'origami' cover does not fit so snugly that once installed it is difficult to remove. . This cover is not like that. Simply place the kindle voyage into the base of the cover, and it immediately locks into place magnetically. It is held very well, but if you want to remove it from the case, it can be pulled out very easily. Nice! and as i said, very different from any case i've used before. . Second, this cover hinges at the top, and you can either fold it backwards, flat against the reader, or you can use the 'origami' folding feature to fold it so that a stand is created. It takes a couple of practice folds in order to become familiar with this 'origami' style fold, but after a minimal amount of effort you learn how it is done, and it works perfectly. It is all held together with magnets and the result is a very sturdy and solid stand. I am impressed by how well it all works. . I was a bit hesitant in ordering this 'origami' style cover, because i've always been used to covers that open like a book cover, and i really didn't know if i would like this. What i should have realized is this - with my kindle paperwhite leather cover, when i use my paperwhite while eating or at a desk, i would always end up propping it up with something in order to put it at a comfortable angle for reading. With this cover design, that is already provided for. It's a better design for my needs, in other words. . The stand can also be used to support the kindle voyage in either portrait or landscape position. . Both of those aspects of this cover have become more appealing to me after using it for a few days (this comment added in later edit to the review). . Materials and quality. . I like the quality of the materials used. The exterior of the cover, both front and rear, is a textured leather, and it is very well made and looks great. No stitching is used, the leather is attached to the frame of the case and there are no detectable gaps or seams. The inner surface is microfiber (this is the surface that sets on the screen of the kindle when the case is closed), and it is also very well done. The online store logo is embossed in the case, both in the rear leather of the case, visible when closed, and in the microfiber inner surface which is also visible when the case is opened and either folded into the stand position, or folded back. The case also incorporates a button that is placed directly over the 'on-off' switch of the kindle, so that you can power-up or power-down the device with the case installed. The cover also activates the auto power-on or power-off when the case is opened or closed. . I have the red color, and it is darker and less of a 'fire engine' red than the pictures here make it appear. I like it, but some might find it disappointing if they had wanted the brighter red as shown on . Long term durability will take time to be known, but i can say this about online store covers. I have used the kindle paperwhite leather cover with my kindle paperwhite (first generation) for a full two years, and it still looks great and is in perfect shape. That was an expensive cover as well, but i've never regretted the purchase. I don't beat up my devices, and i don't carry them around in backpacks or purses, but i do use my kindle outside of the home quite often, and so the cover is put to use constantly. And since that earlier online store cover has given me good service, i have the same expectation for this one and was willing to spend the money on it from the beginning. . I also was influenced by the fact that because the kindle voyage is a more expensive device, and i didn't want to take chances with any drops or other mishaps, i was willing to spend the money for this more expensive cover. . Weight added to the kindle. . This cover does add bulk and weight to the voyage, and for some users that may be significant, but i found it to be minimal. . With respect to weight - the voyage itself weighs 6. 3 oz, and the cover adds another 4. 8 oz. That would seem to be a pretty significant addition, nearly doubling the weight of the kindle, but after all the kindle is pretty doggone light to begin with, and the device with cover attached is still pretty light weight. I can easily hold it in one hand and read for a long time without discomfort. I will also mention that i've tried lighter covers on my paperwhite, and have always returned to the online store cover because it does provide greater protection (the online store cover for the paperwhite is bulkier than this voyage cover, too). . With respect to bulk - after living with this cover for a couple of weeks (i write this as an edit to my review, writing on 10/30/14), i've come to realize that the cover is very slim and nice, and i like it even more after using it for a period of time. I have not ever felt that it made the voyage too heavy or bulky. . Conclusion:. -. . I've been debating whether or not this cover deserved a 5-star rating, or should be given a 4-star, not because of any quality or design deficiency, but because it is admittedly pretty doggone expensive. It's a judgement call, and many people will think that this case is simply too expensive, but on balance i've decided that given the quality of construction and materials, how well it fits and works, that it is a good value even at the price online store charges and it deserves a 5-star rating. I realize that not all customers will feel it is worth the money, but for me i'm satisfied. . So, i like it, but there is no denying that this cover is expensive. The voyage has just been released, but there are already a good variety of other covers available, in all kinds of styles and colors. I can't claim that everyone will agree that this cover is worth the extra ten or twenty bucks (or more) compared to other covers. I can just say that it looks great, and i'm happy with it myself. And online store does offer the same design cover, but made from polyurethane rather than leather, at a lower price (see online store protective cover for kindle voyage. The color selection is a bit different from the colors offered for the leather cover as well. I don't have that lower priced cover and haven't seen it, so i would recommend reading the reviews on online store if considering it).

Kindle-voyage-leather-origami-case,-black-(53-002066) set picture

- F. NicoleThis cover is delightfully ingenious. It works perfectly as a stand even when it's resting on a pillow because of the clever magnetic setup. One reviewer complained that it made the kindle seem less like a book because the cover flips over the top rather than opening the way a book does. It is a change and it is less like a book, but the kindle is not a book and this cover enhances its usefulness. Only complaint i have is that the picture makes the red look like a nice bright red, and it is actually more to the maroon side

This is a great case for the voyage, it's light and elegant and it's really easy to just clip and unclip the device from. It's comfortable enough to read with while on the device and the fact that the cover folds into a stand is a really cool touch. . My only gripe is that the cover does not close very securely and has come open or shifted a bit while in my bag. An additional physical clip or elastic to lock it closed would be nice.

Fintie Case Kindle Voyage - The Thinnest Lightest Protective PU Leather Slim Shell Cover Auto Sleep / Wake Kindle Voyage 2014 , Black

I love the design of this case. It fits the voyage like a sleek glove. It does add a bit of weight to the kindle (not too much), but provides great protection for it when i'm lugging it around in my purse. The cover folds back nicely when i'm reading (which is a requirement for me). It stays closed (via magnets) even when it is in my purse. I must admit that the artwork is what first drew me to this case. It is beautiful.

Fintie Case Kindle Voyage Protective (ekm0008us) FAQ.

This is a great product, thin, and easy to put on. It has a textured finish so a nice grip. The case is very well made. I didn't realize that the cases were made with different parts of the world map and so if anyone wants to see a specific country or city that is shown on the sample case, they may not get it. . I personally did not but that does not make the case any less perfect. . Online store gave me a credit because my case did not arrive on the promised day, basically this is a free case. . Edit: after using it for a week i noticed that the front flap is a bit warped and leaves a noticeable gap at the extremities. I am concerned about dirt etc getting in and scratching the screen. Not sure if i got a particularly bad one but i subtracted a star for this and ordered a walnew case. -Notice from S. Judith, New Hampshire

This case is very pretty and has very nice colors. The look of it is great. The make of it is better than i expected. The back is protected by hard plastic, the front is like a hard foam over something firm, perhaps cardboard? it does seem like it would bend easily. I wish the magnets on the inside were done a little better. It looks like two staples were put on the plastic where the front connects to the back. Seems rather flimsy. I do like how the case automatically turns off the kindle when closed and turns back on when open. I would pick this again in a heart beat. Especially over the other extremely expensive folding one online store released. A case should not be 30% of the cost of the thing it's protecting. This is a reasonably priced case for what it's protecting. Good job fintie!

- R. VeronicaI came across fintie cases for my kindles by accident. They are now my favorite. After trying several other brands in my search for that perfect cover, i can definitely say that my search is over. They fit the kindles great and they fit my hands perfectly. I really have no negatives about fintie cases. Any bad reviews from others must be one-offs where something unusual happened.

Great cover for the kindle voyage. I have the newer 2015 kindle version, and it fits with no problems. . I did a lot of research and comparing before picking the finite smartshell. Absolutely no regrets! the cover is slim and light-weight, and great price. The magnetic wake/sleep function works seamlessly. Most important of all, the cover is easy to take on and off. This was my biggest concern when shopping around and looking at reviews for other options. Definitely didn't want a cover that would scratch or damage the new kindle. The finite shell proved to be no problem at all, as the borders are very shallow. You only need to unpop one corner at a time to take off, and it goes fairly quick. . One thing to note: the navy option is more of a dark black when viewed in person, but you can see hints of the navy in the right light. The darkness really surprised me as i thought the blue would be more noticeable like the picture. Still a great cover, but just a warning for any folks who are purchasing only by color.

Protective Cover Kindle Voyage, Black (53 002437) FAQ.

-Notice from V. Sharon, Isle of Wight

I got this cover to go with my new kindle voyager and i love both. There are no clasps to mess with - it's got a magnetic feature that keeps it closed securely when you want it closed yet it opens easily. The flat cover becomes a stand when folded in the back (also magnetic so it stays in place). The power button in the back is super convenient if the kindle goes to sleep while you have it open. I got it in the bright green so it is super easy to spot from a distance or in a dark bag.

- K. AlbaIt's pricey, but its worth it. This is the best case i own for any of my many (my wife says too many) gadgets. It magnetically adheres to the back of the kindle voyage with ease and has yet to come off on its own. The origami feature works well, and best of all, the cover magnetically adheres to the back of the case perfectly when in use. The fact that it folds over the top rather than at the side doesn't bother me at all and works well. I was also impressed with the material online store used. I think i like it better than the leather material used on their cases, actually. . If i could get this exact same case for my ipad and my iphone 6+, i would have already made the purchase. Great job with this one!

Such a we'll designed cover. Light, sturdy, it sits at the perfect angle for reading when open, and offers excellent protection for the voyage when closed. Highly recommended.

Kindle Voyage Leather Origami Case, Blue

I'm very happy i purchased this over the paper white. My first kindle, although used plenty of older models as my whole family has them. The design is perfect, honestly. The smooth glass is remarkable, and i couldn't ask for more when reading outside in sunshine. The buttons with the buzz haptic feedback are a great addition and i'm using them primarily and never touch screen to move pages anymore. Keeps screen clean. Battery life with airplane mode has been couple weeks for me. . I did buy the black origami case. However i didn't buy it for the purpose of using it as a stand. I wanted the case that was made for it, and liked the leather aspect. So the case is sweet and fits it snugly, and the magnetic hold that it has with the kindle is wonderful. Very impressed with that. But was i've come to be shocked with is actually just how much i now use the stand aspect! we are all used to reading books magazines in our hands, but honestly, sitting at a table and having the ability to just prop it up, has been delightful and quick a nice pleasant surprise to me. I'm not very happy i got this origami case, as it just provides a completely other mode of reading with the stand as compared to just holding it. Nice to have the option. If i'm holding it in my hand, i would say that for longer periods of time reading, i pop the kindle of the case, as there is an extra weight aspect, however it's not by any means necessary. . I've read few books so far, and no complaints, except for the fact that i have noticed over and over that the software doesn't seem to pick up on paragraphs/spacing in the text where there is an obvious plot story change. Instead, it just reads like the next sentence and i've found myself confused on a number of occasions that it's no longer talking about the same plot line again, and has shifted to another story line. I'm sure its just a software thing, or perhaps with the bookerly font, but it's my only negative point. . I've already read a 10-15 medical journal publications on it, as i work in medicine and am using it as a pdf reader (as i've found that reading documents on ipad is to straining on my eyes). Very easy to get pdf's onto device, just email the pdf from your computer to an email address assigned your kindle and voila, it's on your device. Easy. The document is more responsive than i was expecting actually. I researched this aspect a lot, and saw videos of people looking at pdf's, however the software or hardware must have been updated, because quite responsive now. . All in all, i'm very happy with this. I was unsure given the extra price, but now that i've had it for a month, read a few books, many medical pdf's, and i would definitely recommend this.

Kindle Voyage Leather Origami Case, Blue (53 002197) FAQ.

I love this case. I have had many kindle cases and i must say that this one is the best. It's sleek and stylish. I can read for hours with it propped up. Two thumbs up! -Notice from R. June, Indiana

Kindle-voyage-leather-origami-case,-blue-(53-002197) set picture

- P. AllenI have purchased a blue and a red leather origami cover for kindle voyage. The blue is beautiful! it's the nicest blue i've ever seen a kindle case in, looks way nicer in life than in the photos, and as you'd expect, the quality and usability is brilliant. The red, which photographs as scarlet, and appears to also be a stunning colour, is actually a dark red or maroon colour. I expect it could be described as burgundy or wine red too. It's not a colour i like. I'm a scarlet woman, so suddenly my kindle clashes with all my scarlet accessories. I'm on-selling it and have now ordered a black leather case to replace it (the blue one was for my dad). I am seriously considering getting a blue one for myself too! . . Colour aside, these are beautiful cases. The leather is much tougher than earlier online store branded cases, the kindle is held in the case magnetically, rather than by mechanical grip. In fact, magnetic fastenings are much in evidence: magnets keep it closed, open, and hold the kindle in the case, and also activate and deactivate the device as you open and close it. The cover folds are also held folded by magnets. It's elegant, protective, highly usable, and attractive. I'm not disappointed, and i have come to expect the best from online store where kindle cases are concerned. . Aside from the maroon red and a distinct lack of colour options in the leather model, my only complaint is the hinge position. Instead of folding down the left side of the screen like a book, it folds along the top edge, like a paper notepad. This was, i think, a rare design misstep on online store's part. It's a wonderful case in almost every sense though, and beats its competitors hands down.

I was actually surprised by how cool this item is. It doesn't add a lot of weight to the unit and is pretty easy to use. My biggest complaint though is when it is folded up as a stand, it doesn't perch well on your stomach when you're laying in bed. Because of that i would have rated it 3 stars but it is strangely comforting (no idea why) to hold it up by the stand. . I've grown a little fond of it.

F.A.Q. for kindle voyage e-reader, 6 high-resolution display 300 ppi with adaptive built-in light, pagepress sensors, wi-fi

Asin:b00ioy8xwq kindle voyage e-reader, 6" high-resolution display (300 ppi) with adaptive built-in light, pagepress sensors, wi-fi - includes special offers . . Update 6/6/2016: i ve been reading late at night when all other lights are turned off and the text is crisp and clear in the voyage, unlike the paperwhite with 300ppi. While the light is adequate in the paperwhite there is a distinct yellowish cast that decreases the brightness and clarity if the text. Now i even notice the tint when the light is dim and i find i have to increase the brightness level to a higher number than on the voyage. I know that the light is "adaptive" and decreases over time but i have to readjust it on my paperwhites and i don't on the voyage. Update 3/17/2016: with the release of the 2015 paperwhite (7th generation) i can no longer justify additional $80. 00 since the only difference is the pagepress that is offered on the voyage. Like the voyage the 7th generation pw now has 300 ppi and the crisper, bolder text on both devices is probably a result of online store s manufacturer in taiwan using e-ink's new "carta" displays instead of the previously used "pearl" displays that was used on previous versions of the kindle i love that and have been waiting for years for this has made a much needed improvement in the look of the screen. All of online store s readers now have 4gb of storage. . Update: 6/12/15: recently, i ve been afflicted with bell s palsy which has affected my right eye significantly and the voyage is mush easier to read from than the last paperwhite, although i still use it as a backup since i have to charge so much because of usage. The lighting is better, especially at night and the contrast outside during the days is much better. I have a top of the line uv screen in my glasses which helps with reading outdoors and does improve glare indoors but since this latest illness i ve noticed that my glasses are not working as well as the did. I am planning on getting a new rx, i just want to wait a little to make sure that everything is as stable as it can be and when i do i will ask the doctor, not the optometrists who unfortunately are on commission so will try to up-sell on products won t work and aren t needed if there is a lens that helps decrease eye strain in indoor lighting. I ve seen ads for the new foster grant readers that say they have a lens that does, if there are any users that have used the product, please email and give your opinion, i d really appreciate it. . Update: may 18, 2015: i've been using the voyage as my primary device for a few months and i am still happy with the purchase. I love being able to integrate collections between devices, but there are still a few kinks that need to be worked out. Since i read so much i find the battery life is the pits, even with wi-fi turned off and turning the off the light if i am outdoors or in a well lit room and setting it between 12 & 14 when i read in bed without any other light source i am having to charge it every other day. . There are many others that have written excellent reviews that are very detailed; some include videos and i am not going to repeat what they have done. These are a few reviews that helped me decide to purchase my voyage; mg furmann, sarah e, j chambers, phil in magnolia, randall, michael gallagher, brad v, bichon mom, r song and court g. This review will be what i like and what i don t. . I've now gotten use to the adaptive pagepress sensors and can usually locate them in the dark, however, occasionally i have my hand placed differently and i have trouble locating the sensor to page backwards. It would be nice if the sensors had a very soft glow (a very soft blue would unobtrusive and easy on the eyes) that lit the forward press at the bottom or in the center and lit the back press sensor dot. The lights could be different colors but i don't think that would be necessary and could possibly be distracting, particularly if the forward sensor was not lit completely. Online store could have a control in the settings menu to turn it off for users that don t want or need this option; it would be wonderful if they would provide users with the option to light both or just one (i d turn the back senor on and leave the forward off). I'd like to see a way to enlarge maps more than they do currently. I read a lot of fantasy and even using the magnification provided and a magnifying glass viewing maps is difficult. I'm not asking for color, just a clearer, larger, crisper view for maps. I had the kindle fire at one point and while maps looked great, the device is not suitable for long-term reading (there is not a tablet that is imo) and there were other problems that made me decides that kindle fire was not the tablet for me. . I review for authors and sometimes they do not have a mobi file so i have to use another type which i then convert to mobi is it doesn t have drm and the quality leaves a lot to be desired and it s worse if i can t convert. A smoother, better integration for other file types would be a great addition. There are other devices that i could use for these types of file but kindle is the only one that does not strain my eyes and the only device that is suitable for reading outdoors. . I am, and have always been an avid reader and my bedside and home has always had too many books. (my husband is grateful that i am no longer frequently bringing more bags of books home). I do pay many books forward , donate and trade others, but there were always so many i wanted to keep for one reason or another. . Overall i am glad that i took the plunge because of the increased, marked difference in the clarity of the fonts. (i did the same test that other reviewers did, i opened the same book on the touch, paperwhite and voyage and it is significantly clearer on voyage). I am a voracious reader, i read for several hours every day and i can tell the difference in the clarity and crispness of the print. Like many others, as i have aged my eyesight has diminished and this improvement has helped decrease the strain and fatigue that i experience. The crisper and bolder text is probably the result of online store s manufacturer in taiwan they are using e-ink's new "carta" displays instead of the previously used "pearl" displays that was used on previous versions of the kindle i love that and have been waiting for years for this has made a much needed improvement in the look of the screen. That being said, there is still the same six fonts (this has now been increased to eight), and other settings there have been since i bought my first 4th gen device. I had hoped for a wider selection of fonts and at least two more font sizes (4 would be fantastic), with the size increases starting after the second font. I don't find the new bookerly font to be better as online store claims and i still find the caecilia condensed to be the best font for me to read with on all my devices. . I also find that the interface on both the paerwhite and voyage is extremely slow and it also lock up frequently meaning that you to restart it and cannot just turn it off and back on. Also, there are issues where they sometimes the books are not synched between devices which is a hassle. . I like the smooth bezel on the glass that goes from edge to edge; it prevents dust, dirt sand, etc. , from collecting in the edges as it did on the touch and paperwhite. The glass has also been hardened and is non-reflective (make sure you protect with a screen protector and cover). The new magnesium shell also provides additional protection and it easy to hold; but is does show fingerprints. (note: the previous sentence is if using with or without a cover). The shell on my 2014 paperwhite, (which i am keeping as a backup) is slicker and attracted a little dust; since both the dust and fingerprints are easily cleaned i don t have a problem with either shell, i found them both easy to hold since they are always in a cover. (note: the origami cover online store offers is much too expensive! you can find this case and many of the others that they sale for much better prices elsewhere. I did purchase the ores my favorite book 5, kindle voyage case from an online store retailer that was reasonably priced because it was so beautiful and the same price as other sites). . The voyage weighs less and is a little smaller but i thought that the 2014 paperwhite was fine in this area. I wasn t one of the users that missed the buttons; i never had a problem with either the touch or paperwhite and never felt like they were needed. My husband hated the buttons and that was the reason we originally purchased the touch which made him happy. Once i get through the learning curve i think i ll like the page-press sensors; i like the response. They need to be easier to see if you are reading just using the built in, adaptive light. (this is an issue that i know cannot be addressed with a software update but will probably happen when the come out with a newer version. I won t be buying a newer version for at least 3 years. I ve always given family members the older version when we ve purchased answer ones, but the voyage costs too much just to replace just so i can have the latest edition. I did not buy the original kindle because you could buy a new laptop for almost the same amount and i could not justify spending that much just to read). . I was fortunate that i don t have the screen issues that too many buyers experienced. I agree that file transferring, lag, etc. , which i am experiencing) should have been fixed before it was released. Like the 2014 paperwhite, the voyage seems to lag when you are moving books from the cloud to the device. Also, the interface with the collections is incomplete; some of the books aren t even shown in the cloud until you go into the manage your settings & devices and manually add them to voyage. It is much easier, than it was on either the touch or paperwhite, but not as flawless as online store makes it appears in their promos. (see randall s review on november 15, 2014 for more detailed information about this issue). I hope to see the addressed in software updates that will not require us to shell out more than the 200. + that we ve already spent, for this device and accessories to protect them. These are the reasons are why i ve deducted points. Online store still does not include an ac charger for their readers. I feel that the prices for the paperwhite, voyage and now the oasis have enough of a profit margin to include the $20. 00 9w charger that can be purchased at less than half the cost on ebay. I realize that they also doubled the storage from 2gb to 4gb, but this is what online store uses for all their readers and considering the quantity that they purchase for their devices i doubt that they are paying 1% of $20. 00 for the larger chip. By making all the readers use the same storage chip they no longer have to purchase two different sizes for them which also saves them money. . Online store s e-readers are the only device that i would recommend for reading. Unlike tablets, computer, phones and other readers it is the only one that has the same quality as reading a printed book. I have tried reading outside with other devices, but the glare makes it almost impossible unlike the kindle e-readers. I have owned almost every generation since the 4th generation and i am very happy with this device and i have recommended to many people. . 4. 5/5 stars

I was surprised when i got the box. Online store used the exact amount of cardboard needed to box this up. When i opened the box and turned sinbad on (from "the golden voyage of sinbad", not the comedian) i was blown away by how sharp the lettering is. I have had each model since the k2, and this is by far the best screen. Yes, the pw1 & 2 are really good. I did have some lighting issues with the pw1, but not the pw2. I have no problems with sinbad, though i did read several 1 & 2 star reviews from people who did. Sinbad's screen is bright and clear, and i can read on a smaller font than on my pw2. . I haven't used the automatic lighting - the one time i turned it on, it was too dark for me. Yay for people who like it, but it's not a big deal if you don't. I love the page press function. I have missed page turn buttons so much - i get several blogs, and the blogs have links, and invariably the link is right where i put my thumb to turn the page. I finally started swiping instead of tapping. Now i get to press the side and the page turns! no accidentally going out to a slow loading web page while i'm frantically trying to get back to my blog! page turns seem faster than on my pw, but then i had a lot more in the memory of my pw than i have on sinbad. Once sinbad fills up, maybe he'll slow down. . I did have a problem with trying to page backward using the left button. I know that the dot is page back and the line is page forward, but that didn't stop me from paging forward while trying to back up. That's just a user thing. I'll get used to it. :). . I got the wi-fi only. I've had 3g before, and i didn't use it much when traveling. And as more hotels get wi-fi, this becomes less important. . The one thing that kind of irks me is that since the power button moved, the only cases that will turn on and off sinbad are the origami ones. I love my fire hdx origami case, but i wasn't planning on getting one for sinbad. But after reading other voyage reviews that mention the origami case, i might have to break down and get one. . Now i'm just waiting for decalgirl to get their voyage and make skins for sinbad.

I have waited for two months since i purchased my kindle voyage to write this review so that i could provide an accurate assessment. I bought this to replace my kindle paperwhite which i have owned for 3 years. Spoiler: i like the paperwhite better. . There are pros and cons to each of these ebooks not the least of which is that the paperwhite costs less and i find it to be more comfortable to read on. . Pros:. The voyage has a great screen and easy to use settings. It has slightly less weight but not enough to make much of a difference. . Cons:. The. Page press buttons are more of an irritant than a help. If you hold it normally it is easy to accidentally turn the page when you don't intend to. Ease of reading isn't any better than the paperwhite. The screens on both seem to be the same. (which is actually great). The battery doesn't last as long as the paperwhite - don't know why this is. I read several hours a day and get about 3 days before i need to recharge it. They say i should get 3 weeks but that is based on 1/2 hour per day reading time. . Both are good readers but personally i prefer the paperwhite.

Screen on voyage is slightly better that in my ancient kindle keyboard (see photos). But not much and take into account that voyage on foto with bare screen and kindle keyboard is with screen protector on it. . The backlight on voyage is just an annoyance for me - i have to switch it off, because my eyes better with reflected light. With backlight it like just an ipad - ok to read but more strain on your eyes. . I do not like the touch buttons on voyage. The real buttons on kindle keyboard are better and much handy. And my old kindle have a 3. 5 phone socket! the phone adapter for voyage is big and costs $40. . So overall i think that was a bad idea to spend $110 on refurbished voyage (and absolutely craze full $200 price).

First voyage review - as a previous owner of an old kindle e-book, 2 nooks and 2 or 3 paperwhites, i'm knowledgeable in this area. Previously, i was never without a paper book. Then, i found e-readers and they are my constant companion. I don't read books on the computer, it hurts my eyes. Thus said, i didn't think i would ever go beyond the paperwhite. But, i was tempted to try the kindle voyage. I got voyage when it was on sale and loved it the minute i started reading on it. It seems clearer to me than paperwhite even though both have 300 ppi. , i like the glass screen and the solid front. I like the page turn and the feel of the device. It is a very comfortable fit. I intend to trade my 300 ppi paperwhite back to online store when it comes up available for trade in. Thus said. I really like the voyage. I intend to keep the voyage by my side for a long time. The problem is: the voyage should be priced the same as the paperwhite. Actually, they should be incorporated into one item. Love it, keeping it. It should be priced lower and it should have included a charger. . Update voyage - i have now tried the oasis and i returned it. Did not like the small size and did not like removing the battery cover. It did not hold a charge well. I returned oasis and and reordered voyage. Voyage is my favorite e reader of all of them. I do think part of the reason i like the voyage so much is the ayotu case. It just feels good to the touch. I don't like the fintie cases and their visible magnets. I wanted to try the oasis because a review said - skip the voyage and get oasis. I disagree. I can happily live with a paperwhite. I prefer the voyage and i don't like the oasis.

I was on the fence about purchasing the kindle voyage, then saw it on display at a local retailer and was struck by how gorgeous the screen was. After playing around with it a little at the store, i decided to get one. I like that the screen is a single piece of slightly textured glass, and i like the way the text seems to be at the surface of the glass, not beneath it. The higher dpi of the display is noticeably smoother and has better contrast to previous kindles and the return of the page turn buttons on the bezel is a nice addition, although i have enormous hands and don't really use them. All in all, i really like the device. I just have one issue which i hope online store will address in the near future. . It's time for a larger screen! . . I'm not talking some 10 inch monstrosity like the dx, just a slightly taller, slightly wider screen. Say 7" or 8". The kindle in all it's iterations has always, for me, felt a little cramped in the screen real estate department. Almost toy-like. I've always felt like i am constantly turning the page, turning the page, turning the page. Hopefully, online store will see the error of their ways and introduce a premium, voyage-like reader with a 7 or 8 inch display. I know it would be an instant buy for me. If you agree with me about this, like my review, or leave a comment. I am curious just how many other readers out there think the kindle's screen is just a tad too little. . They could call it the kindle voyage xl or something. . I would give this device 5 stars but to me the bezels are just a little too narrow, making it difficult for me to hold in my adult male size hands without obscuring the text or accidentally triggering a page turn. I've ordered a book-like cover for the thing (not the ridiculous flip-top origami cover online store is offering) so hopefully i will be able to handle this thing a little more comfortably with a cover to hold onto. . Sometimes, online store, bigger is better. The decreased weight doesn't really help when you've got to pinch the narrow bezel between your thumb and index finger to hold it. Maybe it's perfect for the average size person, but for me the ergonomics of the device is just slightly off.

Love the size, weight, and clarity of my kindle voyage. Hate the advertisement screen saver. Liked my paperwhite screen saver with the pencils, pens, and other writing implements. When asking the sales person about how to get rid of the unwanted advertisements, he said i should have bought the most expensive kindle - i did - with no special offers! that surprised him. Went on line and found this has been an ongoing complaint. Seems the sales person should have known, and kindle should have fixed it by now.

There are literally thousands of reviews on the voyage. I know, i must have read them all before making this purchase. I watched you tube videos and read techie articles on why this was (or wasn't) the e-reader for me. I wish i could give this 4. 5 stars. Nothing is perfect so i hesitate on 5 stars but i do love it and 4 stars doesn't quite seem enough. . I had a paperwhite 2013 and it was getting the job done. I read and review lots of books! i started drooling over the new paperwhite 2015. And then the voyage. Ultimately i decided to go big and get the voyage reader. . As a reader and not a techie - here is my opinion:. . After only having this for 24 hours i can say i really like it! i will update this review once i spend some time with the voyage but i hope i only grow to love it more. . If you're looking for that huge difference between the devices, then i think you will be disappointed. There just isn't that smack you in the face wow factor. But all the small improvements and features do add up to a better reading experience. . Voyage is small, light and easy to hold. I was looking forward to the angled back but i can honestly say that (so far) it doesn't change the comfort factor over the paperwhite 2013. The size does make a small difference though. The voyage is a bit shorter and so the weight balances better in my hand. The construction material is something that was irrelevant to me. As long as it's light but not cheap feeling i don't have a preference to plastic or metal. I will say the devices feel very similar due to the soft touch coating on the voyage. . The display is crisper - it's a subtle difference even on direct comparison - but in the course of reading thousands and thousands of pages of text, even the smallest improvement will reduce eye strain. I do think that the display is brighter than the paperwhite but i personally feel the screen has a slight color tent to it. This really isn't something that bothers me, just that i noticed it. The text is also blacker compared to that grey tone of the paperwhite unit. . If you are on the fence about the glass screen (as i was), don't be. I wondered if the etched glass could really be glare free like the paperwhite display is. It is! no worries there at all it's wonderful. . I find the page flips to be faster. My paperwhite 2013 could be a bit laggy and that was frustrating. This is quite snappy and once you get in the groove, you don't even notice it. . The lighting is a bit better on the voyage compared to the paperwhite - it's brighter and more even across the screen. I like the ambient light feature! when i went from room to room the unit just adjusted seamlessly and to a level i found pleasing. I wan't thrilled with my first experience of the night time feature. It was slow to adjust and remained too bright for my liking. Maybe it will grow on me. . The page press buttons are my favorite feature and the one that pushed me into the purchase of the voyage. I owned an original nook reader and missed this feature when i switched to the paperwhite. I'm glad online store has added that - and it works really well! you can adjust the pressure it takes to flip a page to your liking. The unit also gives you a little buzz (haptic feedback) when you press. The strength of the tingle can be turned to low, med, high or completely off if it's something that bothers you. Just like the page refresh, i don't even notice this after a few minutes. . Overall i think the voyage is a solid reader. Well worth the pretty penny that you will spend on it. If you are considering an upgrade or deciding between the paperwhite 2015 and the voyage 2 then i recommend taking the plunge and purchasing the voyage. . *update*. I've been using the voyage for about four months now and i still really love it. My favorite feature is the page press buttons :) the only thing that i can complain about just a tiny bit is:. . 1) sometimes in a lower light situation the screen tends to have an off color cast to it. It's not bothersome - just something i notice. . 2) i have not done any official "testing" but i do feel like i have to charge the voyage more frequently than the paperwhite 2013. Not sure how accurate that may really be but several times i've been caught off guard that the battery is low and it seems as if i just charged it! . . All in all i am still super happy with my purchase!

As someone who reads quite often, i really like this new generation of kindle. The improvements in hardware, software, and most importantly, the readability are an amazing leap forward from what i had been using. . I have owned prior generation kindles (1st, 2nd, and 3rd), and then managed to convince myself that i didn't need a kindle anymore since i had an ipad that i could read on easily enough. Fast forward a couple of years after (mistakenly) deciding that and i noticed i still found myself going back to the kindle keyboard (3rd gen) as my preferred reading device, as it eliminated eye strain entirely. That eventually lead me to start researching what improvements there had been in the e-ink displays and kindles since my last investment in one, and i was very pleasantly surprised to learn about the voyage. After hemming and hawing over the decision to invest another $200 into an e-reader (my 1st gen kindle's screen went kaput, so i was somewhat hesitant to buy another), i eventually took the plunge and i can honestly say i couldn't be happier with the purchase. . The hardware - the voyage is quite sleek in my opinion. The dimensions of the device are small enough that it can easily be held for long periods with one hand, and small enough to be easily portable (i. E. I can easily slip it into my jacket pocket and be on my way). The metal back feels great in my hands, and i have found that it is comfortable to hold for hours while reading without that sides of the device cutting into the palm of my hand. The flush glass front is a surprisingly non-reflective matte finish that is still readable in bright light or outdoors. The 300 dpi eink display is very pretty, and while i can easily read the text at the smallest setting, i still prefer the 3rd smallest font (it that appears to be around a 12 pt font if i had to guess). Still, while everything is crisp, i wouldn't say that it's a gigantic improvement over the 167 dpi kindle keyboard i had been using. The biggest improvement to me is the built-in backlight. Admittedly, i had skipped the paperwhites, so i can't draw a comparison, but it's insanely nice being able to read in any setting without needing a separate source of light on the screen. I have seen some reviews state that the lighting is uneven on their screens, or that it goes from yellowish to blue, and luckily i didn't receive a unit that suffers from either of those issues. I've found that i keep that light at around level 8, and the ambient light sensor does it job adjusting accordingly depending on the darkness of the room. As for the wifi vs 3g models, i have owned both types in the past generations, and i don't really think it's worth it to invest the extra $70 in the 3g model. It's not too hard to find free wifi these days, i haven't missed the 3g functionality at all. . The software - the current software / firmware that i am reviewing is 5. 6. 1. 0. 1. This was my first experience using the touch-based interface for kindle, and i must say that i like it a lot. There are notably some navigational confusion that i'm sure i'll adjust to, but overall, it is much more convenient using touch to move around that a directional button. The one thing that i've noticed is that i keep trying to use my thumb on the bottom of the voyage expecting there to be a 'home' button, which may just be due to my familiarity with iphones and ipads, and the habit of needing to press the home button on the kindle keyboard. After having this happen several times, i must say that i would really like to see online store use the page press sensor technology to transform the kindle text at the bottom of the front bezel into a home button on the next generation voyage. Also, i really like being able to browse the books on my device by cover. By default it only shows one row, but i turned off the special offers, and opted for it to show two rows of books instead of store recommendations. X-ray is pretty cool for referencing characters or quickly finding things within the book, and i imagine i'll use it a lot in the future. Word wise is also freaking invaluable to me. While it sometimes picks out words that are quite obvious in meaning, very often it picks out the words i don't know and quickly allows me to see their meaning without breaking the flow of reading by having to press and hold a word to bring up the dictionary. I also really like the goodreads integration, as i was using that social network way before online store purchased it, and being able to quickly update my reading progress cuts out some of the busy-work of keeping my profile updated on that site. Additionally, i absolutely love the feature that allows you the tap the progress shown in the bottom left corner of the screen and quickly change between percentage complete, time left in the chapter, time left in the book, and the corresponding page from the print version of the book. The time left feature changes dynamically based on your own personal pace, and it's a great motivation tool to keep going if you know how much longer its going to take to finish that chapter without having to skim forward. The font choices are also nice, though even more choices would be appreciated. Of those offered, palatino is my personal favorite. . Overall- it's quite easy to say this is the best kindle reading experience i've had, but i don't know whether the voyage was worth the extra cost compared to the paperwhite. The flush glass front, page turn buttons, and adaptive light sensor are great, but if you're in a pinch for money, i'm sure it's quite easy to survive without access to those features.

First i purchased an entry level kindle when they were on sale at christmas. After a year, i gave it to a friend whose kindle had died. I wasn't using it because i couldn't read it in bed when i woke up in the middle of the night and didn't want to turn on the light. But after insomnia kept waking me up at 4am, i decided i wanted to give kindle another try. This time i bought a kindle paperwhite refurbished. Because if i didn't like it i would not feel bad that i'd spent too much. It arrived, the fonts seemed fuzzy at edges, but i couldn't decide if that was a fault of a refurbished model or my bad eyes (they're terrible). But i discovered that i loved the back lighted display that allowed me to read in bed at night. I was hooked for kindle but the fuzzy fonts were making me crazy, so i reluctantly returned it. Then, the voyage went on sale. I asked for opinions from voyage owners in the question forum and after several positive reports, i jumped on the bandwagon. (btw, the product forum is a great way to gather feedback! ). And like goldilocks, i've found the one that is just right for me and my tired eyes. I love my voyage and will be taking it with me as i head to the airport tomorrow. Thank you, online store! i look forward to the next generation of amazing kindles.

I have 3 kindles and love every one of them. I love how the light adjusts to the lighting in the room. The print is bolder and easier to read and i especially love the size of the kindle voyager. Perfect! keep up the fantastic work, online store! i'm a customer for life!

Upgraded to the voyage from the paperwhite (first gen). It wasn't until i turned on my voyage and saw the white screen that i realized my paperwhite has a very noticeable blue hue to the light. However the voyage has its own lighting problem: there is a clear gradient with a slight blueish hue at the bottom of the screen and a yellowish hue at the top of the screen. Sounds like this is a problem on a lot of the voyages. Thankfully i don't find it distracting from the reading experience and it is only really noticeable when i am actually looking for it. . The processing power on the voyage is noticeably faster than my paperwhite. (the first gen paperwhite had 800 mhz processor, whereas voyage has 1 ghz). Typing on the keyboard goes much smoother and fast on the voyage. Page turns are quicker. . The haptic key function is actually kind of cool. I didn't think i would care for it and that i would probably turn it off, but the tactile feedback is reminiscent of the good old mechanical buttons on the kindle keyboard. I think i will probably keep the haptic feedback on (unless it winds up using a lot of the battery power). . The automatic sensor lighting is a bit unsteady. I suspect i will wind up turning it off permanently. . The voyage seems to handle pdfs a lot better than my paperwhite. I am very happy about this! . . The 300 ppi screen of the voyage is wonderful. Very crisp text and pictures. . And i am glad they removed the on/off button from the bottom of the device (where it was on the paperwhite). . In a nutshell, the screen lighting and the light sensor need slight improvements but overall i am satisfied with my kindle voyage experience so far. It is much better than my kindle paperwhite (and i thought it was great). In regards to the cost, i think it is a bit more expensive than it should be, but i read hours every day and so am willing to pay a premium for my e-reader.

I once asked a question here, "can i view my calendar on the kindle voyage? " the answer given was "no! it is only an e-reader used for reading books. ". . As i now own the voyage, you must know that i was able to view my calendars, one from sharepoint and one from gmail. I was also able to view my emails from gmail and perform a google search. The gmail page actually renders very nicely. You will need a wifi or 3g connection to read your email, but it is very possible. In the settings, go to experimental browser. There are even some preloaded book marks. Also, google searches are possible as well. You should also know that internet usage starts eating more into the battery life and the browsing is not as fluid as a tablet or phone or computer. I will use it only in extreme circumstances, but just knowing that it is there is a life saver; because chances are my phone will run out of battery life way before my kindle. . Even with the internet browsing, viewing my calendar (read only of course), and reading some emails, the battery is still going strong after three weeks on a single charge. Still have about 50% battery life left. . One more thing. The backlighting is 100% awesome. Very natural look and easy on the eyes. All settings looked soo very good, but now i just keep the light bar set at 12, or half way.

Wow! i purchased my 1st kindle back in late 2007. Yes. The original kindle. I still have it and use it occasionally. A couple of years ago, i move on to the 1st gen kindle fire. I just revived the kindle voyage and origami case for christmas. And all i can say is wow! . . I read about 6 to 10 hours a week. Mostly on the long island rail road and/or nyc subways. I do a lot of standing. The kindle voyage is very light and comfortable to hold. The text is amazingly clear. The led lighting is even across the entire display. I like how it automatically adjusts given the current lighting conditions. . The page turns are fast. I like how the kindle estimates how long to the end of the chapter and i can see how long to the end of the book. I know a lot of people did not like the location system on the kindle from day 1, it now also has real page numbers. I ve gotten used to locations and can judge how long the book is from them. Page numbers are nice though. I had an opportunity to use the origami case to stand the book up the other day. I was eating lunch and wanted to keep reading. It turned out to be quite useful. So i am now sold. . I like the page turning options. I haven t yet set myself on particular method. I like both tapping the right side of the screen as well as using the new pressure sensitive buttons. I like that the left button also moves the page forward. So i can easily do page turns with either hand. I m guessing lefties will like this too. . I can honestly say that kindle voyage is better than a dead tree book at this point. It works in natural light, outside, at night in the dark. When at the gym, i don t need to fight to hold a book open. The battery lasts over a week (i can t say how long but i know it lasts at least that long). It s lighter than carrying around a book. And is easier to read than a book while standing on the train. . Judging by some of the negative reviews, people seem to not like the price tag. You can buy cheaper kindles, so i don t get it. I am likely to spend well over 400 hours this year reading. Spending a couple of hundred dollars for that amount of entertainment is inexpensive to say the least. Couple that with how cheap (even free) kindle books are and you get a lot of value for your money. I get a book each month from the kindle lending library and often a book from kindle first (i m an online store prime customer). . This is simply the best kindle and purpose built reading device on the market today.

Tl; dr - it's a great device, well made and totally worth it. . For those of you who have looked at my history - which you can, but it's mostly boring - you may notice a pattern in my reviews of online store's recent waves of devices: negative. This changes all that. Yes, i haven't liked an online store product produced since the end of 2014 (ending with the nice fire hdx 8. 9 4th gen), and this product does not end that streak, but it's still a great buy and i'm satisfied with my purchase, even at the original $199 price point for the wi-fi only device. . My previous kindle ownership: kindle 3rd gen, and kindle paperwhite 6th gen. . Not great bona-fides, but not non-existent, either. Let's start with the q-and-a. . Q. What's so great about it? . . Four reasons:. . A. First, let's talk pixel density. This has 300ppi, and at that density, i cannot distinguish individual pixels, like i can on the fire hd 8 or the regular kindle e-reader. Big plus for me there, as i find it somewhat distracting to read with pixels and has been long one of the things that has held me back from recommending e-readers to the general reading public. Not for this. At 300ppi, the text is crisp and clear at all sizes and styles. It's an improvement over the 6th gen paperwhite by a wide margin (though the text there was also good at 212 ppi, it is even better on the voyage). . Second, we're talking page turning. The haptics are absolutely wonderful. It's like online store knew that i did not like having to move my hand every time i wanted to turn the page. It makes it a lot easier to read in bed, since i do not have to bring in that cold outside air every time i finish a page. There is a drawback to reading in bed with the voyage haptics, because there is no tactile sensation to discern where the pressure sensor is, i do find that my hand may have moved up or down. It's not a huge drawback, i simply just slide my hand back to where i need to, but it does happen every so often. Not nearly as annoying as having to move my hand, though. . Third, we're talking backlighting. Yes, i had the paperwhite, which had the same feature. It's just improved in the voyage. The lighting on the paperwhite felt like it came from a particular source and i felt like there were times when i had to change the screen brightness in order to see text in a particular location (top, if i remember correctly. It's been a while, ok? ). Not so on the voyage! i read in the dark and i can turn the brightness down to the lowest level and feel like the screen is uniformly lit. Much better than the paperwhite. . Lastly, we're talking size. I was reading on that paperwhite, but i got annoyed (as i always do) and turned to the fire hdx 8. 9 4th gen to read at night. White text on black background did well, but the screen was too big. Also too tempted to surf the internet, which is not helpful to get to sleep. The voyage felt too small to begin with, after using a tablet of that size, but it has quickly become much nicer. I think the ideal size would be right around what the fire hd 8 has in terms of screen size for reading, but the voyage is close. It is light and does not strain my eyes. I fall asleep when i need and don't have a complaint against the weight, screen size or construction. . Q. Who would you recommend this to? . . A. This is the type of e-reader that i would recommend to anyone who says, without every trying an e-reader "i prefer a book". I am confident that, if they spend three weeks with this to read, they will change their mind. . Q. What would you like to see out of the next generation? ie, what can be improved? . . A. Two things: 1. Larger screen, maybe 7. 5-8 in. 2. Separate tactile sensations to differentiate where the next and previous page pressure sensors are. That's it. . Q. Does it play audiobooks? . . A. No. That's what tablets are for. . Q: how's the battery life? . . A. Pretty good. About what online store says, actually, which is some 20 hours of reading between charging. I get more because i keep the light at a lower setting, but it's not terribly significant, and i haven't had it long enough to drain the battery twice. . Q. Will i lose my books if i get a new e-reader? . . A. Only if it's from another manufacturer or you did not purchase the book from online store. Online store backs up every kindle book purchase in the cloud and you will only have to download them to the voyage. It's easy and you might even keep your place if you sync before you reset your old e-reader. If you have a nook or another non-online store e-reader, though, then the answer is probably not. If you're coming from online store, then yes. . Q. You didn't mention the adaptive light sensor. Why not? . . A. Because i haven't used it. It's a great idea, but i already keep my light low. If it works as explained on the voyage page, then it's a definitive advantage over the paperwhite. . Q. Speaking of the paperwhite, would you recommend the voyage over the paperwhite? . . A. Tentatively yes. I haven't used the new generation, so i cannot definitively say that the voyage is miles better, but it does have the following advantages: 1. Pressure based page turns to read without moving your hand. 2. Less mass. 3. Adaptive light sensor, which i list last here for the fact that i haven't used it. If the lighting hasn't changed on the paperwhite, then the voyage has yet another advantage. Is it worth $80 more? for someone frugal, no. For someone who doesn't want to replace their e-reader in a couple years, then yes. I think it's worthwhile investment to spend the $80 now for a device that i expect will remain used for the next few years over the paperwhite, of which i do not hold the same expectation. Perhaps that's because i traded in my paperwhite to purchase the voyage. I do not intend to replace this device for a good, long time. . Q. This is a pretty glowing review, particularly compared to the other online store products you've reviewed lately. Are you being paid? . . A. No. It's a glowing review because it deserves a glowing review. . Q. So, there's nothing that you hate about it? . . A. I actually spent several hours, prior to writing this review, to figuring out something about the voyage that i hate. The answer is: the experimental browser. It's stupid. Also, docking a review a star for that would be idiotic. Honestly, if you read the voyage page on online store to see what it can do and what they say about it, it's pretty much correct (unlike the fire hd 8, i might add. Hate that device. ). . Final thoughts:. . It's a great, well made e-reader. Fully deserving of honors and only has nitpicky deficiencies, but those we already know: (it's 6", and black and white, and the haptics have no tactile separator. ) for what it is and what it does, it's absolutely phenomenal, and i finally get to say, well done, online store, even if this was released in 2014.

So i've had the since july so 6 months and this month i've noticed a significant change in battery life. I own a couple of kindle paperwhites, other family members use. I decided to finally upgrade to the voyage. I think i might, just might stay with a paperwhite today. Why? well 2 things. 1. The voyage never had the battery life of the voyage, and 2. The price point. Also i noticed that i really liked the size of the paperwhite better even though the voyage is lighter. I am constantly accidentally turning pages and bringing up menus or highlights when i move. There isn't as much holding space. . There are definitely better things too though. 1. The flat screen which helps so much with dust and pet hair. I have pets and the hairs to get caught in the paperwhite's edges. 2. The button turns, i love the page turn buttons. . So all the other stuff, well. My eyesight isn't great anymore so don't really notice the sharpness difference between pw and voyage. I good with both of their lighting. . So the last thing is what has occurred in the last few months. 1. When turning on from a magnetic cover or the button, sometimes the lighting doesn't come on. I have to go to settings and actually touch the lighting button even though it is usually set in the middle top somewhere. Yet without touching it, it is dead dark. I also can try turning it off and on and the 2nd time the light will come on automatically. When i am in a dark room this is the only way. So this has been occurring for the last few months. 2. In the last month, i get about 6 hours of read time before a warning of the battery being low. Since i can read 4 hours in a day sometimes, that is half the power. With my pw i would go on vacation, read on the plane there and back, and read an average of 1/2-1 a day and not have to charge the whole time. It was over 20 hours. Well the voyage never had this, i could do there and for a little bit there but i felt like i was charging twice as frequently, maybe 11 or 12 hours. Now it is maybe 8! maybe. And even not reading, after one day, there is a sliver missing from the battery, really? why? i have wifi off unless downloading. I don't go on goodreads or browse online store from my kindle, i hate those functions and wish i could delete them, along with recommendations, and next in a series. Since i have my home screen set for list view, i usually only see them when searching. I wish i could search just the content on my kindle thank you! but even so this is about the battery and i don't have any setting that would cause this to happen. I'm still under warranty and will probably call in the next month. . So along with the battery and lacking space for handle holds, this is a nice product, with software that has become, in my opinion, overly pushy. I want to go back to my old software version. Much simpler and no social media crud. They should have allowed us to choose to put that on or not, not forced us to accept their new integration when we don't even subscribe to the others!

I got my first kindle in 2009. I love reading with a kindle and i love the kindle voyage. On my paperwhite i had to set the font to grade school size to be able to read easily and had to make twice the page turns. The voyage is so clear and gives the option of the spacing between the lines that i can set it to a normal size font and read it well. . Warning: when you first get the voyage your battery will not last long. It improves as you go. Initial setup, downloading books, and indexing drain the battery. I downloaded 5 different versions of the bible my first day. I would have done well to just leave the thing plugged in all day. . Adjustments from paperwhite version:. * turning wi-fi on and off is different. Paperwhite version you did the menu and wi-fi on or off. Voyage you hit the menu, settings and airplaine mode on turns off the wi-fi. This is like other devices but the opposite of what i am used to with the kindle. *. Page turning is a little different, within 1 day using the button on the right was natural and i struggled with going back a page. After 3 days the buttons seemed like i had always used them. *. The auto adjust on the back lighting is too bright for me, it seemed closer to my ipad and i find that hard on my eyes to read for hours. If you manually set the brightness and take of the auto setting it is a lot like the paperwhite. I like the brightness setting of 6 the best.

I use my voyage all the time and love most of its features, but i do have a couple of suggestions for future models. - i borrow ebooks from my public library and would love having overdrive integrated to the voyage (as goodreads is) to make selecting and downloading library books easier. I would also like to be able to see the status of my library books directly on my voyage. - could the manage content function also be integrated to the ereader itself? . . This would make life easier, as i would not have to run to my computer to do these tasks. . Update: since using my ipad app s latest version, and my husband s fire, i am finding that my reading experience greatjy enhanced on these devices. I wish dedicated e-readers had the the follwing functions:. Ability to change background; white, sepia, black. Page animation. Full color. Text to speech and audible. Full access to kindle store. I do like the no glare glass on the regular kindle line. My next ereader will be a fire, but it will be used as an ereader, since i already have both a tablet and laptop for computing and media needs. I hope you will consider integrating the technology in your kindle apps into your line of ereaders!

Since other people have gone into detail on the device, i will answer only the burning questions i had before i received mine. I was very happy with my paperwhite and would not have bought this had mine not been stolen/lost (not sure which). My husband still has his paperwhite, so i was able to compare them side by side. . Can i use the wall charger from my paperwhite to charge the voyage? . . Yes. . Can pressing the page turners cause repetitive use issues? . . I don't think so. You can turn down the pressure it needs (which is very slight) or you can turn it off completely and turn pages with a tap. It's actually nice to have both options. . Can you see where to turn the pages in the dark? . . No. You can guess where the page forward area is, but the page back is a dot, so guessing would be difficult. But you can still tap to turn pages. Using a cover helps, as the edge of the cover would be right over the dot. . Does the feedback buzz annoy you when you turn pages? . . I think it does take a little getting used to, but you can turn it down, and i think i will not notice it after a while. (there's no sound; it's purely tactile. ) months later: it's not distracting; you forget about it. . . Is the adjustable light nice? . . I still do it manually. It doesn't adjust the way i'd like it to. Not as bright in good light as i'd like, and not as dim while my husband is sleeping next to me. Note that if you want to use the "night light, " you have to set that separately from auto adjust. Settings/device options/screen light. I'm not actually sure that the night light is working. It was at 18 when i turned off the light (this is quite bright), and i checked it about 10 minutes later, and it was at 17. My eyes adjust a lot faster than that. I turned it down manually to about 7. . Can i use the cover/case from my paperwhite for the voyage? . . I had a fintie, and i tried it. The entire reading area was still completely visible, but there was about 1/4" of extra space above and i couldn't access the power button. You need to access the power button in the back to wake it out of screen saver mode, and you'd have to take it out of the cover to do that. It would protect it, though, in a suitcase while you're traveling. I ended up buying another fintie for the voyage and i'm very happy with it. . Is the crispness of the text and whiteness of the background better than the paperwhite? . . When i originally wrote this review it was. But online store recently upgraded the paperwhite and the newest version now has the same screen resolution as the voyage. Although i don't have the two of them to compare (my husband has the earlier version paperwhite), i understand that the text on the voyage is still a tad crisper and clearer. See the update in my conclusion below. . Any issues? . . I do not have any of the page hue issues that others have. The screen is uniformly white. . At first, i was having a problem with the page turners being located at just the spot where i like to hold the device. It took a while to find a comfortable way to hold it consistently. My thumb kept wanting to move to that spot, causing me to inadvertently change pages. Using a cover helps. . Books in the public domain and a couple of tips. . There is a way to easily download public domain books from project gutenberg on your kindle by using the experimental browser. Open the browser on your kindle (in the main menu) and type in the url: this will open a link to what's known as the magic catalog. When you have downloaded the catalog, it will appear on your home page and will look like a book. When you open it, you will see it is a listing of all the books in project gutenberg, and all these books are linked to their website. You can search for something (like, say, peter pan), and download it from the catalog right onto your device without having to connect to a computer. Very nifty. This can be done on any kindle, not just the voyage. Be sure to use the domain name org, not com. Freekindlebooks. Com is something completely different. . You can also download books from the mobile site: m. Gutenberg. Org. But you would have to open the browser each time, as opposed to the magic catalog, where the links are already there. . Tips:. . Know that you can turn off the public notes and highlights that appear in your book, and you can also turn off the "recommended content" that appears on the bottom of your home page. . Conclusion:. . If you are happy with your paperwhite, i would recommend sticking with it. Only buy the voyage if you have money to throw around and like buying all the latest gadgets. The voyage is fabulous, but the paperwhite is perfectly fine. If you have a keyboard kindle, the paperwhite is much better than what you have in terms of clarity, brightness and readability. Update 7/9/15. There is a new paperwhite. It has the same screen resolution as the voyage, but the voyage text is still a bit more clear and crisp. The main differences between them are that the voyage has the page turns on the bezel (with the paperwhite you have to tap the screen), and the voyage is thinner. The voyage's screen is flush with the bezel and is made from a kind of glass rather than plastic. The new paperwhite is $119 vs. $199 for the voyage. . . Leave me a comment if you need further instructions on anything.

The voyage is a huge improvement in both clarity of text and conformity of screen lighting over the first generation paperwhite. That being said, it is certainly not perfect. At this point, i am convinced that there is not a kindle voyage that does not have some level of the yellow gradient lighting toward the top of the screen, but i will certainly take that over the splotchy pink, blue, and green hued shadows that plagued the first generation paperwhite. The attached photos show a comparison between the voyage (left) and first generation paperwhite (right), as well as two solo shots of the voyage, one in a well lit room and one in a dark room. I think the camera slightly exaggerates the yellow gradient, but it is definitely visible in person. I also took the voyage/paperwhite comparison photos in a relatively low light environment, which makes both the yellow of the voyage and splotchiness of the paperwhite more apparent. At this point i think my eyes have adjusted to the gradual whitening of the screen, but if i flip the voyage upside down the gradient is very noticeable. I have considered an exchange, but i went through that with my paperwhite and ultimately ended up sticking with the original.

I have had this kindle for about a month now, and i've read from it just about every day for 5-15 minutes a day, so i'm basing my review on this fact and also by comparing it to my kindle touch (this one: . Selected features comparison to the kindle touch:. - dimensions of the touch: 4-11/16" wide x 6-3/4" high and 7/16" thick. - dimensions of the voyage: 4-1/2" wide x 6-3/8" high and 5/16" thick. - screen size of touch: 3-9/16" wide x4-13/16"high. - screen size of voyage: same as touch. - weight: not sure exactly but the voyage is slightly lighter. - the screen of the touch is set into the device about 1/16" whereas the voyage's screen is flush with the rest of the front surface. It makes for a sleeker look in my opinion. - on the bottom of the touch, you have a charge port, on/off button and headphone jack. On the bottom of the voyage, there is only a charge port (thankfully still micro usb). The power button on the voyage is on the back side, near the top on the left side (as seen while looking at the back). I like the repositioning of the button; fewer accidental bumps on or off. - the font of the voyage is slightly nicer looking than the touch, owing to the increased dpi. It's a noticeable difference for the better. - the voyage has a built-in adaptive screen light; the touch has no light. - the voyage has no physical home button; the touch has the one "bars button" on the bottom of the front. - the back surface of the voyage is more angular and kind of batman-esque; the touch is smooth with rounded edges. - the voyage has no speakers; the touch does. - the battery life, though i have no hard data, is much better with the voyage. Even with the built-in light it is a significant improvement. . After using it for about a month, here are some general impressions:. - i love the page turn "buttons, " which are not physical click buttons but more like the touch screen on your phone, which provides a very brief vibration feedback when pressed. They are adjustable for how hard you have to press to activate the page turn. I never liked having to touch the screen to turn the pages (although you can do that with the voyage as well). - the built-in screen light is one of the main reasons i upgraded, and i am so glad i did. With the touch i had a case with a little light built into the case that swivels up, but it was annoyingly bright and was the equivalent of shining a flashlight on the screen; if i held it at a low angle, the light would shine in my face, and it didn't evenly shine on the page, so i never enjoyed reading in low light. The voyage's screen is amazing for this; it adapts to the light level with a light sensor, and is not too bright with the room lights off, even darkening slightly the longer you read in the dark to compensate for your eyes adjusting to the darkness. Smart! the light seems to be on all the time while reading, no matter the ambient light, but in bright lights it looks like it's not on. Somehow the battery life is still amazing; i charged it once when it arrived, and now, after about one month with daily use (5-15 minutes per day), i still have about 1/3 battery. - the only thing i don't like is that on the home screen, your collections display as folders, and when you open one up, even if it's on the 2nd or 3rd or further page of folders, when you read something from it, the next time you press home that folder will be moved to the first page because it is most recently read. I don't like it because it keeps moving my folders around and i'd like for them to stay put so i'll remember where they are. Maybe this can be turned off, but i don't know how yet. . Conclusion: if you have an older kindle and like it enough, but want to read in any light and want better page turn functionality, i think it's worth the upgrade. It's a major upgrade in terms of price, but i'm happy with it and still smile when i read with it because it does what i want it to do (with one minor exception explained above). I always felt a little guilty for having a kindle but not reading it much, but not anymore. I read daily and love kindles again.

I am of the "older" generation, and like the feel of a book in my hand as i read. As you can see, i was hesitant to purchase this, but i gave it a try. Boy, was i glad i did. It was very easy to connect to my wifi, and to adjust the settings such as brightness and page turn touch. When you plug it in to charge, there is an amber light at the bottom of the reader that turns green when it is fully charged. I am able to read approximately 3 books before a notice appears to indicate i need to re-charge the reader. You have the option to touch a word for the definition or adjust the settings to automatically give you the definition on various words, so you do not have to keep touching the screen to get the definition. I can read in complete darkness and have no problem seeing the words. This is truly an amazing gadget, and would highly recommend it.

I purchased the kindle paperwhite when it first came out in 2013. I had owned a previous generation of kindle with the physical buttons but no back-light, and had issues reading in a dim room, or poor lighting. That was a frustrating i lived with, not knowing there was any real options. So when the paperwhite came out with the self illuminating feature, i immediately purchased it. It has been my faithful companion ever since. Even when the voyage first came out, i didn't feel the need to upgrade. So in terms of longevity, i give the kindle line 5 very satisfied stars! . . Recently i had the chance to compare the paperwhite side by side with the voyage. The voyage's text clarify is hands down better even though both - the newest version of the paperwhite and the voyage - are 300 ppi. Now that i have a voyage, i don't think i can go back to the paperwhite. The ease on my eyes can't be stressed enough. 5 stars! . . However, i must take one point off because of two things:. 1. The backlight isn't completely even. The first kindle voyage i received had very dramatic pink patch along the top of the reader (this reminds me of the first gen paperwhite). I have just received my replacement from online store. It's much better now, although the top part is still slightly darker than the bottom. I don't think any other manufactured model at this first gen will be any different at this point. 2. The replacement kindle i received has a noticeable defect with the pagepress button on one side. On the right hand side, the long strip designated for turning forward a page isn't so designated. I noticed while reading that if my thumb is pressing close to the top 1/3, it actually turns the page back instead. . I would request for a replacement, but i'm worried that the new replacement might have worse screen illumination. And to me, that's more important than the pagepress button. Since i can't give this product my full confidence in quality, i'm going to have to take that full point off. . But in terms of online store customer service, i would give 5 stars also. I consider this an important but often over looked fact about a product. I feel confident that if i am unsatisfied in anyway with the purchase, a replacement will be processed. . Over all, i love reading on my voyage, and i think it's the best ereader out there at this moment. . -. . Update: 7/12/2016. . For those who are price conscious, here are some recommendations:. 1. Purchase your kindle during one of their sales. With the voyage, you can expect a $50 discount. 2. If you have an older generation kindle you are upgrading from, consider trading-in. Even if it's not functioning anymore, online store will pay some money for it. My working 5th gen kindle (the 1st gen paperwhite) was trade-in for $33. Online store also offers an additional $20 credit to be applied to your new kindle purchase. . If you combine all those, you are looking at purchasing a kindle voyage for less than you would pay for a paperwhite, even on sale for $99. 99

I'm very happy with this purchase. I replaced my first-generation paperwhite (which was misplaced on a trip) with the voyage. I didn't use a case on my paperwhite, but find a case almost necessary for the voyage due to the fact that the screen is not recessed, making it easier to scrape the screen on surfaces. I did specifically look for a case with edges flush with the voyage (i got the swees online store kindle voyage 6" case cover) so that it felt more natural to hold. I was a bit aggressive about keeping my paperwhite screen clean, and hair and dirt would sometimes get stuck around the inside bevel where the screen met the plastic, so i'm very happy with the flush screen and the separate page turn buttons on the voyage. . The pictures show the voyage in the swees online store kindle voyage 6" case cover mentioned above.

I busted the screen on my paperwhite so i figured it was as good an excuse as any to upgrade. I write for a living and do a lot of reading so comfort in an ereader is paramount. After giving the voyage a try it's definitely an improvement over the paperwhite with one major problem that loses a star. . The positive:. . - the backlighting on the kindle paperwhite had bright spots. The lighting on this one is more uniform. . - the 300dpi screen really makes a difference. The blurriness on the paperwhite drove me to distraction and i had to push up the font size which was irritating. None of that on the voyage. . - the haptic feedback button on the side for paging forward is a much needed addition and makes reading a breeze. With the paperwhite if i was lying back in bed i'd have to reposition to do a page swipe and avoid reading left handed. Not so with the voyage. . - repositioning the power button has made holding the device in one hand far more comfortable. On the paperwhite my pinky was constantly bumping against the power button on the bottom which was irritating. . The negative:. . -this is the big one. I purchased my voyage from best buy, took it home, and immediately noticed a major difference in coloring from the top to the bottom. I did some searching and apparently this is an issue with the voyage. I tried reading with it but the color gradient from dark tan at the top to white at the bottom was too distracting and i returned the first unit. . I'm happy to report that the problem is far less pronounced on the replacement unit i got. It was immediately obvious on the first, and it's still there slightly on the second, but the difference is so small on the replacement unit that i might not even have noticed it if i wasn't looking for it. So if you're having an issue with the dual tone screen on your voyage and it bothers you know that there are units out there where the problem is far less pronounced. . -the haptic feedback back buttons are a pain to get at when you're reading one handed, and they're small enough that it's difficult to get to them. Not an issue since i'm not going back that often, but know that the forward buttons work great but the back buttons not so much. . - the adaptive backlighting can be a little squirrelly. Most of the time it works seamlessly, but there are times when i find myself having to manually adjust it because it suddenly decides to go to a brightness level that makes it impossible to see the screen. For the most part it works, but there are obviously still some kinks to be worked out. Particularly in rooms where there are multiple lighting levels. . Overall this is an excellent device that addresses most of the concerns from the kindle paperwhite 2 while still having a couple of areas where it needs improvement. Of particular concern is the dual tone on the screen. If you get a unit with that problem i'd recommend returning it until you find one that has a more uniform display. Aside from that this is a device that's comfortable to read on and worth the extra cash if you have an older model you want to upgrade or are buying a kindle for the first time. . If i hadn't broken my paperwhite 2 though? i'd probably wait until they come out with a new version of the voyage that works out some of the kinks that really shouldn't have been there in the first place considering this is supposed to be a flagship device and how much they're asking for it.

I've been anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new kindle voyage and it finally (after two days lol) got here about an hour ago (so i can't speak to longevity, etc) however i can say i adore this device! i haven't been able to put it down (less to write this review). I had the original kindle paperwhite, which i loved mind you, but after having it for years it started having serious issues with charging. So i eventually got tired of that problem and decided to replace it. However, there were some changes to the paperwhite that i wasn't super psyched about so i considered springing for the voyage which i'd had my eye on for some time. Best. Decision. Ever. Why. ? . . 1. The screen looks gorgeous. The contrast and clarity is fantastic. (and those "coloration" issues that some have mentioned. ? either it's fixed, or i can't detect it. And i have great vision. ). 2. The home page layout is fresh and nicely set up. 3. The "special offers" i debated about for a while (whether to pay more to avoid them which i did with my paperwhite because on my original kindle they bugged me). They are much less intrusive and if you have kindle unlimited many of the offers are k. Unltd books which is nice. 4. The page press page turn bars are so nice! it was hard for me to "get" how they worked until i got it. You can hold the voyage however you like, even over the bars, without turning the page until you intend to. And it gives you feedback when you do press the bars enough to turn the page by responding with a very quick and slight vibration. 5. It also has two new fonts- bookerly which is great for typical books, and opendyslexic which i assume is for those which dyslexia (which kudos to online store for adding this font) but i think it's a cool looking font in and of itself for more fun type books (it's simply a fun-looking font, i don't know how else to describe it). 6. It has real page numbers- finally! along with location in book, time left in chapter, and time left in book screen options. . Bottom line, it's absolutely worth the money to upgrade from the paperwhite! now i'm just anxious for my case to arrive, as i don't like my new "baby" being vulnerable. :)

We have a handful of kindle fires in my house, but i've always been an ipad girl. I use the kindle app on my ipad and love it. Since i travel a lot for work, it's a huge help for me to have books available electronically. I always carry a book in my purse or backpack. Frequently i'm exploring cities alone, so i need something to read during dinner or downtime. I thought i'd try a kindle reader because it'd be easier to slip in a coat pocket than my ipad. I don't need to duplicate the internet capability as i have that on my phone and tablet. I'm so, so happy with my voyage! i wasn't really aware that it'd be as small and thin as it is. I got the distressed leather case and i adore it as well. The stand works well, the leather is really attractive and it's slim and light. The settings on the voyage let me really customize my reading experience the way i like it. You can easily hold it in either hand and flip pages. I've only just received it so i don't have direct experience with the battery life, so taking that on faith, but it seems pretty accurate. The screen is easy to read in all the lights i've tried. The voyage is simple and intuitive to use. I did look through the short manual and that was worthwhile to find out about all the settings, some of which i wasn't aware. I don't like tech with a steep learning curve, so this suits me well. I love my voyage and highly recommend it! also love the premium leather case, for looks as well as function.

Ordered voyage around 4 days ago and i was so excited to get my hands on the device. However, when i received the kindle voyage, the top 1/3 of the screen was slightly yellow. This may not affect others but for me it bothered me to the point where i had to return the device. . Update*. Received the second device and it was the same as the first device. I thought they fixed the issue? . For $200, this device should not have any of these lighting issues. Ridiculous. . Update 6/23/2016. . After purchasing and returning kindle oasis (it was uncomfortable switching and battery life was terrible without the cover). I decided to give voyage another try. However, like the ones i ordered when it first came out it had yellow tinted screen on top of the screen (about 1/4 or a little more). I am extremely unsatisfied with this product. And this device came later than the guaranteed delivery date. Didn't even bother to contact online store at this point. Just printed return label and returned it the same day i received it. Update*. Returned the second voyage and i am waiting for the third voyage. I hope this one doesn't have any issues, or i'm going to return it and wait for the next gen. . Online store for $200 two toned lighting issue is unacceptable. The only reason i gave it a 2 star is because of their customer service. I will update as soon as i get my third kindle. . Update *. Unfortunately, 3rd voyage was the same as other ones. Another issue for this kindle was that it was refurbished. The representative clearly said that i would receive a brand new kindle but i got a refurbished unit. $200 device with even the slightest color change is unacceptable. I returned the device the same day i received the device. The only good thing about this purchase was the customer service. 5 starts to customer service (thanks to mora, kindle customer service representative). Will not purchase any more kindle voyage and i am eagerly waiting for my refund. . 1 star for the product (yellowish screen which does not match with the $200 price). 5 star for online store (will still be loyal online store customer, i am putting my hopes for the kindle voyage 2)

I got this as an upgrade to my kindle touch. I wanted a lit screen for night reading so i was looking forward to upgrading. But no, i had to return it. I side load most of my books and this just doesn't work well for that. If you try to put non-cloud items in folders, it makes you go through two pop up windows saying that the book isn't cloud supported so it won't be backed up to the cloud in the collection. For every single non-cloud item you select to add to a collection. Every. Single. One. I have over 400 books, most non-online store, and i like to keep them organized. I was not going to go through that error message 800 times. (more, actually, since i put some books in multiple collections. ). . Yeah, not happening. I mean, i like the feel of the reader. I like the screen. I even like the page turn buttons. But to be so handicapped by cloud-related requirements? no thank you. I mean, if they had just put an option of "ignore this warning", i would have kept this reader and enjoyed it. But no. I have too many non-online store books and i like to keep my library organized within collections and those two attributes do not work together in online store's world. . I ended up getting a kobo aura h2o. The home screen interface on the kobo is better (imo) than the kindle even though the overall feel of the kobo isn't as slick and streamlined. The kobo also seems a little glitchier (though i have read close to 500 hours on it in the almost six months i've had it so i don't exactly go easy on it). Honestly, the kobo reminds me a bit of the sony reader i had, in both the positives and negatives. Both kobo and sony, actually, remind me of android (functional but not exactly aesthetically attractive, customizable enough that you can accidentally break it a lot) whereas the kindle is more of a mac (sleek and pretty in both physical design and interface, works how it works and you better like it because you don't change it). (for reference, i normally lean towards the mac side of the spectrum (i like pretty things and i don't feel like messing with customizations) which is probably why i liked my previous kindle so. ). . Overall, i really like the ease and nice design of the kindle best, but the functionality isn't there for me and how i use it to read. If i only got online store books and love cloud-based storage, i would have loved the kindle. But i get a lot of indie stuff and free fiction from online and i hate the current dependency on the cloud for everything, so i kind of hate the kindle.

As an owner of the kindle keyboard, in its most expensive version, and as an owner of a voyage, also configured at the top of its price range:. The voyage is not that special. . A strictly objective feature for feature comparison favors the same or less money being spent on a fire. If, like me you either have no need or interest in most of these features (how many devices do you need with an on board camera? ) then there are other e readers at less cost. . My bottom line:. If you have an online store e reader and you are happy with it, do anything you have to do to keep it. This includes buying and installing new batteries as you need them. If you are looking to buy your first online store e reader, the voyage is not a bad choice, it is only one among others. . What attracted me to the voyage? . Saving the main reason for last:. You can still get the voyage without special offers. For many people this feature is unimportant. I do not know what exactly i am giving up when i give online store control of advertising on my reader. If at some future time this means my reading time will be interrupted with ads, it is worth money to me to be to forestall that future. Notice that the fire does not seem to give you a choice, but the e readers still do. . I selected to buy the free 3 g. This seems a little strange to say that you bought something free. The idea is that you buy the extra capability to receive 3g but do not have to buy a 3g subscription service. This is not explained in the ad copy but is a fairly decent deal. 3g is an extravagance as most people can download copy via another device, for me that is a computer. Restricting yourself to wireless hot spots seems to work well for others. I do not like the limitations and likely future for cloud storage, esp if throttled to wifi locations so this is a choice i recommend for any e reader. . Built-in light. I have no strong opinion on this feature. I have moved from shade to bright light and had no particular problems. I rarely read in a fully darkened room or in bed. Compared with my kindle keyboard the voyage seems to handle glare and lower light situations a better. . The buttons. The page buttons had been a strong selling point for me. Most often i am eating while i read and am repelled by the idea that i have to put my fingers on the reading surface to page up or back. 90% of the buttons on my kindle keyboard were a 100% waste. The half dozen i used i used regularly and like having that choice. Being forced to use a touchscreen is something i actively hate. On the voyage the page forward and page back buttons work reasonably well. Unfortunately they are operated from the top of the voyage reading surface and not from the sides. This would not matter except that the voyage also has page forward and page back touchscreens activated from about the same spot on the reading surface. This means as you reach, particularly with your left thumb, as you might do while holding the kindle you can activate the page back touchscreen and have it activate once or more before you succeed in pressing the page forward button. In addition accidentally touching the screen can cause one or more page changes intended or not. This may be deliberate or a design oversight but it is a bad design. At the risk of over emphasizing this point, the only feature that distinguishes the kindle voyage from any other e reader has been deliberately or otherwise sabotaged. . More general comments:. Placing the on-off button just inside an upper corner of the back of the device is a gimmick. There may be a dubious advantage in placing the button where you can find it if you are holding just the device. But this placement guarantees that any cover you buy for the voyage must be custom-made to allow for this awkward placement. . The charging cable supplied with the voyage does not include a wall socket. The assumption is that you own a device that will allow you to charge from a usb port. In my case this is not a big deal because i still own a desktop computer and have five or six usb ports available. If you have moved into a newer laptop or an even smaller device the availability of usb ports for charging devices is limited. In other words having bought the premium ereader in the kindle product line you have to come out of pocket extra bucks to keep the battery charged. . The charging port on the voyage is bottom center. This means if you also bought one of those nifty covers that allow you to stand up your kindle, it is not convenient to set up your kindle and read it while you are charging. There seems to be no profit in this particular design it's just a bad one. In addition i bought one of the high-end origami type covers. This cover only uses magnets to hold your kindle. While fumbling to push in the charging cable it is very easy to push your kindle out of its cover and have the reader drop to the floor and get damaged. I have elsewhere reviewed this cover of will simply say that it was another expensive letdown. . Battery life - i have no reason to believe the battery in my kindle will provide near the battery life charging time advertised. It is possible that my battery is defective and that i should return this voyage to online store and have it replaced - more about this shortly. The voyage gives you a choice between being connected to the wireless/ 3g network or to be in airplane mode. While connected you are burning through your battery and so i am usually in airplane mode. On the keyboard you are either connected or you were not. Why "connected" or "airplane mode" i do not know. The people at kindle help will insist that you should always be connected so that you can always get upgrades. Upgrades do not occur that often and if you have just run down your battery to zero prior to this upgrade delivery it not can a load anyway. . Both this kindle and my keyboard have in lieu of an on-off modes, choices that i think have no name. In the voyage there appear to be three flavors of on and off. "on" means that all features are active and available and presumably you are busily reading a book. Variation one of "off" is familiar to all other kindle readers as meaning your screen will flip through various displays and depending on whether you are connected to wireless, online store "central" can download those famous upgrades while you sleep. If you press and hold the off button long enough you'll get the choice to turn the screen off. It is not clear to me if this version of off is any more off than the other version but i tend to use it in the hope that it will extend the life of my battery charge. . Among the things online store does not and never has told you is the process for exchanging defective e readers or replacing defective or past their service life- worn out batteries. You mail your e reader to online store. If it is a version online store still sells they replace yours with a totally blank one, note that it may not be a new one. If it is a version online store no longer sells you get whatever version they deem an appropriate replacement and again it will not be a new one. . The result is you receive a different device possibly a different model of device. In either case none of your content is loaded into the replacement device. In the case of a kindle voyage it matters not if you have organized your reading into what they call "collections" and saved versions of your organized content either at the cloud or on your computer it is up to you to reload whatever content you choose to carry on your replacement e reader. This process is somewhat better on the voyage that it was on the keyboard. For reasons online store does not share the process is needlessly repetitive and user unfriendly. For a device that is so leading-edge it has a touchscreen it is amazing how difficult it is to move content in groups like folders instead of one or very few at a time. . Creating collections is marginally easier in this new e reader but i think online store fails to grasp what this process should be about. All of the books i own constitute my collection. How i choose to organize my collection should be thought of as either sectioning books into general headings (fiction, nonfiction, read, reading and so forth) or indexing. Indexing more typically called meta-tags seems to be the concept online store is promoting. But besides not using either term content is not provided to you with any meta-tags already assigned. It would be very useful if certain groupings came with the purchase. For example books could download already meta tagged as fiction, biography and so on. . Two very simple things online store could use would instantly improve the problems of moving content from an existing kindle to a new kindle, for dealing with a stolen or broken kindle or anything else that would cause you to need to re register a kindle. Allowing you to organize your kindle content into collections either in your cloud storage or on your home computer / laptop and then allowing you to mirror the structure in your on board content involves no new technology could improve customer experience across the entire product line. . The new kindle voyage is smaller than my old keyboard. For one thing the entire keyboard section is not needed. It is also thinner than my old device. The voyage will fit an inside pocket, the keyboard will not. This criteria is more important to me than weight. If weight matters to you there is no comparison the voyage is much smaller and lighter. . I was very happy with my kindle keyboard. I chose to replace it rather than go through battery failure. My general philosophy with replacing electronic devices is to go with the most recent version in the most powerful combination my budget will allow. My decision to buy the voyage and to spend the extra money for features and cover and plug was if not entirely eyes open they were certainly deliberate. Having bought the premium product with the premium add-ons i cannot say that my experience has been "premium". This is a good e reader i will stay with it but there is nothing about it that makes it a must have experience. . In the case of the voyage, i think online store was using the price to suggest that there are other choices.

This is my second kindle and i've especially enjoyed the readability of the print as my eyesight is failing, and wi-fi connectivity since i travel a lot and love to binge read. I use my device almost everyday. However, kindle tech support just declared my kindle dead after only 15 months-it won't reload after restarting-with no explanation. Unfortunately, i didn't buy an extended warranty with the voyager since my first kindle (the original model) is over 10 years old and still working. I strongly recommend you consider an extended warranty for this model. . Btw: online store offered me a discount of about 10 bucks from $269 to $255. Really? the online price is only $199.

I've never felt compelled to write product reviews before, but i feel like this product deserves one. I own a first generation paperwhite and bought this because it seemed like a worthy upgrade. I received the voyage and instantly after turning it on noticed pinpoints of light on the right side of the screen. These were brighter than the rest of the screen and didn't disappear regardless of screen brightness or book content. After a lengthy and nearly hassle free online chat with online store they sent me a replacement unit. I received the second unit today and noticed the same pinpoints. Both screens also had the yellow on top and blue at the bottom color gradient. The difference is subtle except for the highest brightness settings. At this point i'm not sure what to do. I've seen other reviews here where people have exchanged these things three or four times. I don't think i have the patience for that. I feel like quality control was secondary to just getting the product out. This second voyage is probably going back as well.

I read a lot of the reviews before making my purchase. I saw a lot of complaints about the screen tinting on the top half. Then i read someone who made the comment that this issue was "blown out of proportion because, naturally, those people who experience the issue are more vocal about those who do not. " this sounded reasonable to me and so i thought i probably had very good chances of not getting a unit with the screen issue. Unfortunately, after having the voyage for a few days, my screen tinted brownish-orange at the top. . Aside from this one issue, the voyage deserves 5 stars. I also own the kindle paperwhite (v2) and there is a noticeable difference in the crispness of the text. I also love the new pager turn buttons and use them exclusively now for flipping pages. . So is this one issue with the voyage screen really worth rating the product 1 star instead of 5 stars? yes, because the voyage advertises itself as forgetting that you're using any kind of device at all. Well when the top half of your screen tints brownish, it will yank you back to reality pretty quick: you're using a device with a manufacturing defect.

I decided to get the voyage when i lost the paperwhite. The only reason i shelled out the extra $80 for the voyage is because of the page press. I switch hands holding the kindle when i read and i thought it would be nice to be able to turn the page when i hold it with my left (i know, first world problem). However, i was sorely disappointed. Sometimes the response lagged greatly, other times it would jump two pages with one press. I ended up just using touchscreen to save myself the trouble of relocating. Personally i also feel the loading is not as fast and smooth as the paperwhite. Maybe i just got a lemon.

I've had almost every kindle made. This is the lightest, sleekest, most beautiful one yet. And i really loved the bezel page turn feature. Unfortunately, my screen was yellow on the top third, then it faded to a beautiful white. I asked for a replacement and they sent one. It was yellow on the top two thirds, and barely made it to white before the bottom of the page. You can see for yourself in the attached picture. . I was also told it was "normal, " and one rep even told me it was a "feature" to reduce eye strain. This is *clearly* a production/quality control issue, and why online store won't just admit it, i'll never know. My husband had to get 3 kindle paperwhites when they first came out to get one that wasn't defective. For $300 (with tax), i just didn't want to go through that with this one. . I'll wait until online store admits they had a manufacturing issue, and that it's been resolved, and then try again. For now, this is truly a two-star review, because three stars means "it's okay, " and it really just isn't.

I have both voyage and paperwhite. The battery life is the same or very similar. The screen resolution is the same. Voyage is lighter by less than 1oz (25 gram weight difference). This is a negligible difference, a typical kindle cover is several times heavier than the difference in weight between the two devices. I gave both devices to play around to a few friends who were not very familiar with kindles. Nobody has a strong preference- about half liked paperwhite a bit better, the other half slightly preferred voyage. I personally like a slightly sturdier feel of paperwhite but it is a matter of taste. Other reviews mention that voyage uses costly materials it may be true but it did not make the product any better. The reading experience on two devices is identical. The main difference is that voyage has a few more leds to brighten the screen. This means that when the screen of paperwhite is at maximum brightness it looks identical to the screen of voyage when voyage is at about 80% of the max brightness. I never felt that my paperwhite is not bright enough, in fact when i read at night i use it at 50% brightness. Thus having a slightly brighter screen is not worth anything to me. The difference in brightness is so small that i can only notice it when comparing devices side by side. The other difference between paperwhite and voyage are the page turning buttons on voyage. I did not have any issues with page turning on paperwhite, for aesthetic reason i prefer not to have extra buttons but it does not really make a difference either. Finally, voyage can automatically adjust screen brightness. Unfortunately, i found that this feature did not work well for me- to get to the brightness that i prefer i had to make manual adjustment so i disabled that feature (it is disabled by default probably because many users prefer not to have it). . One more observation- origami cover is a neat idea but is absolutely useless- it turns into a not so sturdy book stand- for a small minority of users who are in a habit of reading while seating at a desk with a book in a book stand it is better just to pick up a book stand and keep it on a desk. For most people the origami cover dramatically increases the weight of the product without much benefit. I prefer to keep my kindle's in a sleeve. It is sleeve- this way when i read i can hold the kindle without holding the extra weight. Imo sleeves are a better and cheaper choice for both paperwhite and voyage. Online store pushes online store kindle covers very hard because they make more money on covers than on kindles themselves. . The bottom line- paperwhite and voyage are basically identical, if the price were the same choosing between the two would be difficult. Considering an enormous price difference the choice is obvious.

I've had three kindles - my last paperwhite was actually quite nice in all aspects, including uniform lighting, i 'sold' it to online store for basically a $35 gift certificate and what i thought would be a 20% discount on the purchase of a new kindle, a kindle voyage. The later hasn't happened so now i have to call support and waste my time getting it rectified. (update, online store did give me credit after a phone call). . Well i got the voyage, and indeed it is nicer than the paperwhite in the sense of slightly smaller and very good uniform back lighting, but comparing the two kindles side by side, it is not really a big step up - maybe a minor one at best. After using it for awhile now, i see no real advantage in it, it has, like my paperwhite the same ability to get confused at times and not only jump ahead in content, but i get caught in sort of a loop in trying to get back to the page i was reading, comes back to the error page at times before i get it synced - i find i have (at times) to do a swipe to effectively do so, not just touch the screen. Same identical problem on my last two kindles. I should not be surprised as the software as far as page indexing and position control is probably the same between models. . I was hoping that it (the page jumping issue) would not be so on the voyage. So disappointing both in it's existence and still on the voyage. I have no doubt that the oasis probably does it too. For the extra cost it was not worth getting the voyage (for me) - if it is a first kindle for you, the difference between the voyage and the paperwhite is not great, especially at 2x the cost. I also have mixed feelings on the side press keys and find myself touching the screen (maybe just a strong habit from using my other kindles for years). . All that said, i do love my kindles - use them daily. I do wonder at times however at the user interface and presentation - does the one that programs the interface actually use the device? or the one(s) directing it? maybe a committee? i also would love a return key or spot to hit instead of having to touch the top of the screen and then touch it again to get at it or other settings. . So my advice at this point is to get the latest paperwhite and wait for the next generation of voyage or oasis to come out if money is of concern - if money is not really an issue go for the voyage then - slightly better does cost more in the real world. . *update, 8 aug 17* -. My voyager got totally hung up and it would not turn off or respond to any screen input. Started slowly showing issues when at the end of a book got very slow when trying to access store to get next book version. Waiting long enough seemed to fix the issue. Then about 1 1/2 wk ago, got totally hung, and could not turn off or do anything, tried everything (except to let it sit for days until the battery was to low to operate to force a different kind of 'reset') and online store seent me shipping label for return. Replacement is on the way, and based on s/n looks to be a refurbished unit ( much lower). I've only had the device for a few months so i'm very dissapointed. I'm sorry i got rid of my paperwhite and got the voyager especially seeing i've had no issues with any kindle before this. Yeah, luck of the draw, but still dissapointing, especially for something that 'should be' a step up. . I'll update this again after i get it and see how it goes. I cannot at this point reccomend a voyager at this point over the paperwhite both on what it offers and the internal hangup/bug. . One nice thing in this 'journey' is that i have been using the kindle app on a samsung tab s2 to continue reading while the v is out for repair/replacement, and it is a nice interface and maybe better in some ways as it shows color and obviously image content superbly. Does make me wonder why, except high sunlight conditions, i even use a kindle device at all. (well it is compact. )

I 've had my kindle voyage since december 2015. I bought the voyage for all the good things it would do to enhance my reading but high on the list was page press. Age has made my hands a little shaky and a touch screen can become a challenge so i thouht page press was the perfect solution and it was. Then, intermittently, it stopped working. I emailed online store customer service and was told a phone call would be necessary. Made the call and was told that a software update would fix everything. It did for two days then page press stopped. Talked to customer service. Was told that there had been a new update that fixed the problem and i didn't get it because i routinely leave the voyage in airplane mode to save the battery. Okay, got the update and turned off airplane mode. Went for six days then this morning no paging forward with page press. The voyage has enough bells and whistles that i will continue to use it but i won't call customer service and i will tell you not to count on having page press.

I'm coming from the paperwhite gen1. I got some gift cards for christmas and couldn't decide between the voyage and the gen3 paperwhite. I finally found a retail store that had them so i could compare in person. Before, i was leaning toward the paperwhite, but after i saw it, i was voyage all the way. No doubt this is the rolls-royce of e-readers. Which is why i'm so disappointed. About a day of use and my eye started to really noticed a yellow tinting problem in the screen. (i realize that taking a photo of a screen is fairly subjective, and i'm surely to be down voted for even including it, but no matter the color setting of your screen, if you look at the direct bottom vs the direct top of my shot, you can clearly see a difference. ) the longer i read, the more jarring it became. I wrote online store and their first step was for me to wipe the screen with a cloth. - - then they agreed to send me a replacement. In the meantime, i went back to the store demo i saw, and it was apparent to me on that one too, now that i'd seen it. I didn't go looking for a problem with this device; it found me. However, i love the resolution, the non-indented screen, and the pressure buttons. Not to mention the great software which includes the fabulous bookerly font, the much more pleasing word look, and the very useful chapter scanning. The automatic light adjustment is not as great as i wanted because it alters drastically when the sunshine or my angle in the room light changes slightly. But i'm willing to overlook that. What i couldn't deal with at this premium of product and price, is the front lighting issue. And it appears to be systemic for this device, albeit people's sensitivity to notice it varies. I have a shred of hope my replacement will not exhibit the yellowing, but if it does, i'm going back for a full refund and will bear the (now) eye-bleeding resolution of my paperwhite until the next generation of voyage is released. Three stars, yes, for all the wonderful things it does and is. But three stars is not enough to keep it. Will update when replacement arrives.

After a year i can say the kindle is mostly fantastic. The screen is easy on the eyes, the letters are sharp, and it's lightweight. But, the major flaw i've had is that it will occasionally stop "pushing" the sync out. It'll receive it from my other devices but when i go to those to update from the kindle, they don't even though they still do from each other (ipad, iphone). And once it stops doing this the only solution is to deregister it and start from factory settings. Re-registering, going through the tutorial, re-downloading books, and re-adjusting the settings. Annoying. It's infuriating because it'll work perfectly for a week or two, then do it again. Customer service told me the only solution is to do what i've described. That's just lame. It's sad that my 2011 keyboard kindle is more reliable than this one. . A lesser quibble is that the touch is finicky and makes it clunky to navigate sometimes. Especially when highlighting a word and trying to go to x-ray or the web. Sometimes having to press it 3-5 times to get it to register. Not as major as my previous complaint but it certainly takes away from the user experience. . Love reading on the kindle when it works but losing push sync is unacceptable at this price.

I received a voyager as a birthday gift in late february. It accepted set up and downloaded items from my cloud perfectly fine. Then, when i first plugged it in later that eveing, a message came on the screen, stating it needed to update. After the update, it then proceeded to freeze, show error messages, and would not function, despite many resets and turning it on and off. I called the very next morning and spoke to a representatvie about the issue and after attempting to troubleshoot and fix the issues (as i had already done several times), i was informed by the representative that she would be "sending me a replacement kindle via two-day shipping". What she failed to mention was that the replacement kindle was going to be a refurbished voyager! . . When the replacement arrived, it was not in the voyager packaging the original gift arrived in, but rather a generic online store box. When i called online store kindle customer service, it took quite a bit of time to finally get the representative (2nd person i spoke with) to "be honest with me" (his exact wording) and admit that my brand new voyager had been replaced with a refurbished voyager. For a brand new product to be replaced by a refurbished model, with no implicit notification from online store, has accomplished the job of totally destroying my faith in online store and their kindle products! many of us would call this " lying by omission"! . . Had i owned the voyager for several weeks or months, i would completely understand receiving a refurbished replacement. However, to have a brand-new, fresh out of the box, $200 voyager, replaced with a refurbished model, under much less than honest customer service is inexcusable! i have sent both voyagers back (the original gift and refurbished relpacement) and have started looking into e-readers that are not associated with online store or kindle. This is very unfortunate, as i love the kindle reading app on my ipad and phone and am a voracious reader. Had i not questioned the condition of the replacement, online store would have succeeded in duping both me and the people who gave me the voyager as a gift. Epic fail online store!

Let me start by saying i ve been using a kindle paperwhite for at least 4 years and love it. I ve been looking at the voyage since it was introduced and secretly wanting one, but couldn t justify the price to myself because i already have the paperwhite. When the price for a certified refurbished voyage dropped during a one-day sale to $134, i finally pounced. I m sad to say that i m sending it back. The main reason i wanted the voyage was the pagepress function. I loved the idea of being able to read with only a small press on the side of the voyage to turn the page. Unfortunately, i found the pagepress to be unpredictable. Sometimes i could tap the pagepress sensor and the page would turn, and sometimes i had to press, and the pressure needed to turn the pages wasn t consistent. This very quickly became a distraction from the reading experience instead of a convenience. It didn t take long before i reverted to the swipe page turn that works on the paperwhite. The text resolution is indeed better than the paperwhite, but not by a great deal. Maybe if you read hours and hours every day, the difference would be meaningful, but for me it wasn t particularly. I suppose if i lost my paperwhite or otherwise needed to buy a new kindle, i d consider the voyage, as the lightness and slightly increased screen resolution were nice, and i liked the improved face material. However, i d never pay the list price of $200 it s just not that much of an improvement on the paperwhite.

This is a good speed and functional device. It has the best design of all the kindle generations and it has almost every one function of all the previous kindle generations. However, aside the great looking design, there is not too much here. There are only two reasons to choose this over the paperwhite: 1) the adaptive front light and 2) the pagepress sensors. Sadly, none of these is satisfying. . First, the low sensibility of the device to the different levels of light does not match with the different levels of the front light. And, due to this, you have to adjust continuously the light level, which makes this function completely useless. . Second, you cannot use the pagepress sensors on the landscape mode, and when you change from a landscape mode to a menu page (which are always in portrait mode) the buttons does not work at all. Unlike the previous kindles that had turn pages buttons, this one is incapable to use turn page buttons on landscape mode without reason, and this is an incredible and irrational step back. . I really hope that these errors will be repaired within futures updatings, otherwise to buy a kindle voyage will be ridiculous, since it is the same that the paperwhite but more expensive and with two extra functions that rather doesn t work at all or do work but within ridiculous limits. And i am not even including the typical issue with the two colors on the display light, which i think is a minor problem (since the light doesn t have to be used on high levels in a low light environment) compared to those mentioned up.

I loved my paperwhite until a flying dog bone cracked the screen. I debated between this one and replacing my paperwhite, but figured new is better, right? wrong. . Other than the touch bevel sides and being a bit thinner and lighter, this is a paperwhite. I spent an extra $80 for those dumb features. . Out of all the kindles, i think the paperwhite is the best. It's pure reading with no distractions. I love my paperwhite and i'm sure i'll end up liking this voyage, but i feel stupid for paying extra for such minimal improvements. . If you're debating, save your money and get a paperwhite

I've got mixed feelings on this one, unfortunately. This review is coming from a kindle enthusiast who has owned or used nearly every variation of the device since the 1st generation. . Size & weight. -. It's noticeably smaller and lighter than the paperwhite. When i saw the specs it didn't really strike me as something that would make much difference to me, but in real life it's actually great. The voyage fits into a few of my coat pockets that the paperwhite was just a little too big to fit into. . Origami cover. -. I know there's a separate product page for the origami cover, but it's worth mentioning here as it is the "official" cover. The origami cover is ugly and i was skeptical, but i actually love it. It's weird because it opens by flipping over the top like a notepad. This actually makes it more comfortable to hold when the cover is open, in my opinion. It's hard to describe, but there are a lot more ways to hold the voyage when it's attached to this cover, and just generally is more comfortable to use. The origami part of the case works great as well. It stands vertically or horizontally (if you're laying down and reading, this is amazing). . The other great new thing about this case is that the voyage attaches to it magnetically. It attaches and detaches very easily, unlike the paperwhite which seemed to be nearly permanently attached to the standard case. This is great because if you decide you want to read the device and appreciate how light/thin it is without a case attached, it's super easy to take it out. . It's pricey but worth it. . Pagepress. -. One of the new features is pagepress, which has sensors on the outer edge of the device that you can squeeze to turn pages. The device lets you adjust the sensitivity between low/med/high - by default it's set to medium. I found medium to require squeezing way too hard, what felt unnatural and more than any button would or should require to advance to the next page. I adjusted it to "low" and it works perfectly now. Thumb rests on the sensor, and a gentle squeeze advances the page, and haptic feedback (a tiny vibration/buzz) is there to give you a tactile response that the so-called button was pressed. The haptic feedback can be adjusted (low/med/high)or disabled as well. It doesn't trigger accidentally like i feared it might, and i actually really like it. . Auto brightness. -. The device now has a light sensor in the top left corner that is supposed to detect ambient light levels and adjust the brightness of the kindle accordingly. I've had very mixed results with this. First, auto brightness is disabled on the device by default - which seems odd given that it's one of the key new features of the device. The auto brightness worked very briefly when i first got the device, but it always seemed to be a little off from how i would like the screen to look. In lit rooms, it tended to be a little on the darker side, and in dark rooms it was too bright. . Well, shortly after using the voyage the auto brightness quit working altogether. I restarted the device a few times with no luck. After contacting support, they asked me to proceed with a factory reset. It's worked again since then, but doesn't leave me with a ton of confidence since it started acting up so quickly after getting the device. . Screen. -. I've seen the reports online of users who have a "two toned" screen - blueish on the bottom, yellowish on the top. I'm afraid to say that i have experienced this as well. Spending upwards of $200 for a luxury ereader, it's really surprising and disappointing that they haven't got this figured out by now - this is supposed to be a premium device and it's the 3rd generation frontlit reader for online store. This is reminiscent of the paperwhite v1 launch with all of the splotchy lighting - while it was a huge leap over the prior generation, you expect something like this to work perfectly. It doesn't. . The paperwhite v1 had splotchy lighting, paperwhite v2 was supposed to have "improved" lighting - which it did, but still wasn't perfect (mine still had some bright spots). But to be honest, the lighting on my paperwhite v2 looks better and more consistent than the voyage. It's unfortunate that this is a step back. I hope this isn't a widespread issue, but i fear that it is after seeing numerous users on other forums posting about it and sharing pictures of their device. It'll be a shame if the only upgrade next year will be a voyage v2 with "improved lighting", just like what happened with the paperwhite. I'll be more skeptical about being an early adopter next time. . Aside from the uneven lighting, which i can't decide how distracting it is, the contrast and picture quality of the screen is outstanding. When i compare the text from my paperwhite v2 to the voyage side-by-side, the text on the paperwhite almost looks blurry - which i wouldn't have believed until i saw it myself. . In conclusion, my favorite things about the voyage are how much more comfortable it is to use (the origami cover offering more ways to hold/use the device, the pagepress sensor working great), the quality of the screen is outstanding, but the uneven lighting and flakey auto brightness are leaving me disappointed. I'm not sure if these were rushed out too quickly or if online store has poor quality control, but either way it's unacceptable.

This is my first experience with kindle ownership. In the past i have owned a sony prs-500, a kobo ereader, a kobo touch, multiple nook simple touches, multiple nook simple touches with glowlight, and a nook glowlight. My point is this; i have had years of experience with e-book readers. I am shocked at the quality control issues online store is having with the voyage. . I have purchased nine kindle voyages. Every single one has had a bad screen. They have all had a yellow tint near the top. Some have had pixels that are stuck in the uncharged/off state. Some have had glittering points on the screen. . I purchased five of the units from best buy and returned each one. I purchased four through online store, and am finally keeping my last one, even though it still has screen issues. Why i am keeping it? any time i get a new e-reader i gift out my old one. So, i have nothing to go back to. . Now that i have that out of the way i can say this: the voyage is a great e-book reader. It has some great features like page press buttons (nook simple touch had these four years ago), front-lit screen, (nook had this first too), goodreads integration, landscape mode, and x-ray to name a few. However, that doesn't excuse a poor screen on every single voyage i have had. This isn't an isolated issue in any way. It beggars belief that by chance i received nine out of nine with bad screens.

I pre-ordered the voyage prior to its release in 10/2014 for $289 including wi-fi and the removal of special offers. I love it for reading and the functionality it offers but two weeks after the warranty expiration, my charging port has stopped working. I took it to a cellphone/tablet repair location and they can't get the part yet to repair it. . I called online store kindle support. They couldn't offer any insight on obtaining a replacement charging port other than to tell me to keep checking their website. The technical support person stated that i would have received a free replacement if i had been within the warranty period but because it was after, i could get a discount on a replacement. I expected an offered discount of 50% - 75% because i was barely a month out of warranty and this was a high-end flagship product. Instead, she offered me $20 dollars off, not even 10%. When i expressed my displeasure, she advised me that this was an exception to policy. They usually only offered $10 off. . I expected it the voyage with all the bells and whistles to last much longer than a year. The cheaper models certainly did. As much as i love the page press feature on this model, i'm hesitant to replace it at virtually full price. I expected better durability and for online store to stand behind their product when it wasn't there. I was sorely disappointed on both counts.

I've had this 8 months. It has a beautiful display, is wonderful to read on and the brightness unobtrusively adjusts to the proper level. Why one star? i don't know if i just got a lemon or what, but mine keeps a charge about a week, even unused and in airplane mode. I don't read. Books every day. I'm used to the older model kindles where i might leave it sitting beside the bed three or four days unused and then be able to read on it. When i try that with the voyage it's at a quarter charge or less. I've experimented with airplane mode on, off, even changed covers wondering if perhaps the auto-on was maybe turning the screen on, but still i can't pick up the kindle after 3-4 days and expect it to have anywhere close to the charge it had when i last used it.

The kindle voyage has been possible the single best purchase i have ever made. In the last year alone i have read tens of thousands of pages and taken this thing with me everywhere. This devoce has single-handedly reignited my passion for reading, the screen is beautiful and the resolution lets me read at the smallest font possible while still having each letter look as crisp as a printed book. I upgraded from a paperwhite and could not be happier with the glass screen and page buttons, and the battery lasts me a month even with the amount i read. The only reason this is not a perfect 5 out of 5 review is that at no more than a week past the year expiration of my warranty the rubberized backing began to fall off. Not scratch away, or peel from a dent or drop, just roll off onto my thumb from the metal plating on the back. I purchased the leather origami case (also highly recommended) and have only taken the kindle out a handful of times in the entire year to charge it or read in bed. I splurged for the best model online store offered because i thought i would be buying an e-reader that would last me a very, very long time so to have it begin to wear when it was handled so very carefully is a bit disappointing. Attached are a few photos of when it started, and it has continued to spread across the back of the kindle.

I love ebooks but at 14 months, under light use, good conditions, good care, this kindle froze permanently. One morning it worked, that evening it stopped. There was no special event (it wasnt dropped) that would have changed its status, it just stopped working. In my opinion this is a hardware defect. By google search i found this isn't uncommon and when it happens they become bricks like this one did, and online store doesn't cover this problem. Online store's "kindle support" responded by offering me a new replacement which at first i thought was great until they revealed the price of the replacement: $189 plus tax and shipping. In other words they were selling me a new one. Online store's normal customer service cannot deal with any kindle complaints so there's absolutely no way to get normally high quality online store customer service. They just transfer you to the overseas kindle department. If you buy this expecting a normally high quality online store customer service experience just be aware it doesn't exist for this product. They farm it out to overseas departments whose job is purely to let you down and sell you a new one. They explain the warranty is for 12 months so at 14 months its out of warranty and there is no coverage and no way to repair it, and they try to sell another one under the guise of a discount. At $199 i would think you could rely on getting more than 14 months especially under light use. If there is a hardware defect issue - and i believe there is - then i would expect online store to step up to the plate and replace their defective product. It's one of the worst customer service experiences i've encountered. Therefore i would not recommend this product.

Well, i was afraid of this, i normally luck out when it comes to things like this but it really does seem like this issue is widespread. Today i opened up my kindle voyage and discovered that it had the dreaded yellow tint on the top of the screen. Whereas the bottom was white and crisp the top was an ugly, distracting yellow. I hate to do this as i love the overall lightness and feel of the device, but i don't think i will be able to get over this issue. Will be returning and hoping online store remedies this situation soon. Seriously, they must realize they are losing in this situation. . I probably wont return right away, i'll use it for a few days and maybe i can get used to it.

First things first. I am a huge kindle fan. I never thought i'd become a diehard e-reader proponent, but after getting my original kindle paperwhite, i was quickly swayed to e-reader side. Love it and now read very few books the "old fashioned" way. Love the flexibility of having so many choices. Love being able to take my reading everywhere. Love being able to read in bed without having any other light on. . When the voyage was introduced, i was offered the opportunity to upgrade from my 1st gen paperwhite as a birthday gift. Umm. Sure. Sounded like a win-win to me. I waited patiently for it to arrive anxious to try out all the new bells and whistles. When it finally did arrive, i wasn't wowed. The auto-adjusting on the backlighting doesn't work right. It didn't adjust to what i would've wanted and once i readjusted myself, it doesn't try anymore. I will confess that i have not called tech support for their advice, but i wasn't thrilled with it upfront, so it didn't seem worth the bother. . I do not like the power button on the back. :( that issue is two fold. I had a case i loved for my paperwhite and having a back power button on the voyage made it necessary to purchase a new case. The one i ordered was a bust (didn't stay closed as advertised, but that's a different review), so i chose to continue using my paperwhite case and deal with the inconvenience of the power button issue. . The side pressure page turning is fine. I do have the occasional issue with it skipping more than one page, but no real complaints once i adjusted to the difference in the locations of the pressure points for forward and back being available both on the right and left side of the page. . Overall, it just doesn't seem worth the difference in price to me. If i were advising someone on the purchase to make, i would tell them just to buy a paperwhite and spend the additional money on some great books. :)

The only reason i'm giving the kindle voyage a 3 star rating instead of a 5 star rating is the screensavers are awful and you can't change them. I spent the extra $20 to get the version without ads and i'm disappointed that the ads are replaced by ugly screensavers that can't be changed or modified. It's either children's blocks or a fountain pen or a generic squiggle or other awful options that show up at random. I'd happily spend $5 on a downloadable collection of screensaver images. Why not give the option to show the front cover of the book you're reading when your kindle is off? other than that annoyance, i love my kindle voyage but every time i pick it up, i'm reminded of my frustration with not being able to modify the screensavers. Please fix this online store. We will pay! please take our money!

Completely died after 1. 5 year. Skip this so-called top-of-line voyage (which is barely better than the paperwhite) with 3g! i got it with online store factory case/stand and now it is stuck at the boot screen forever. I called their so-called "technical support" (who is just reading from a script the entire time) who said because it is past the 1-year warranty, the best price they could offer me for replacement was $110 off a non-3g model. Because of apple's inane and corrosive influence on the ce industry, almost nothing has a removable battery, so there is nothing you can do if the same happened to you! so it went from a $300 paperwhite to $300 paper weight. Nice egg you laid there online store - stick with selling things other people make! i have been in i. T. Over 20 years and this was by far the biggest insult i have ever had. I watch the price boards/blogs all the time - bgr has it for $199 right now, so i would save a whopping $10 for a model without 3g and a shorter warranty! ? ! ? . . As for the device, i was never impressed by it in the first place. It was slow. The touch was dismally slow and unresponsive.

It's not with joy or happiness that i find myself writing this review. Rather, it's with intense disappointment and frustration. When i buy an online store product, i'm buying a brand name "online store" with the assurance of great products, superb customer service, and the desire to satisfy customers. What i have experienced in the last week would be the absolute opposite of what i had expected. . I currently have a kindle touch, which is far beyond its years but still working perfectly. With the release of the kindle voyage i found a worthy replacement for it, one with a front lit screen and something that i have missed very much: page turns. Granted the price tag was higher than the other kindles, but i felt it was worth a big upgrade since i had a 3 year old kindle. . I did see all these reviews on online store warning of the dreaded yellow tint on the top third of the screen. I thought maybe i'd be lucky. Wow was i wrong. Whether it's because the product was rushed out, or if i just happened to get 3 lemons, i'll never know. . First, my kindle voyage arrived last week and immediately i knew i won the lemon lottery. I passed the kindle around to a few of my friends and all of them noticed the yellow tint on the top third of the screen. Super. Maybe a replacement won't be this bad? . . With my 2nd kindle voyage i had a looming feeling that this just was not going to work out no matter how many i went through. The 2nd one was even worse than the 1st. I didn't know it was possible but the tint was even worse on this one. Trying to reign in my frustration i thought let me try one last time. Maybe third time is the charm? . . The 3rd kindle voyage arrived yesterday and it's with immense frustration that i have to say while it's probably the best of the 3 it still suffers from the dreaded yellow tint. I thought maybe i could just live with it. But why should i? this is an elite level ereader that i spent $200 on and waited weeks for. I won't make it that easy for online store, i have a high standard for your products and i really should not have to settle. . Now, throughout the customer service process i have been told a few times that this is how the product is. No. That's not true and it's deeply irresponsible for the customer service rep to pass the buck back to me as the customer. I know full well there are those out there that have gotten good kindle voyages. Now it might be a bad batch of production but as a consumer i do not know that. I only know what my research has told me, that this is unusual and unacceptable. . I still have all 3 kindle voyages in my house and i'm going to send them all back next week. I lined them all up next to each other on max brightness and it was very obvious how bad my luck was. Now my frustration has reached the point where i just want a refund. Ideally, i'd love a kindle voyage that is actually the proper color throughout, but i guess it's raining lemons.
